About the property

Cottage in Wheatley, Nr. Oxford, Oxfordshire, England - Village Location Within Walking Distance Of Shops, Post Office, Bank And Excellent Coffee Shop

Set in the courtyard of our own home, but completely separate and private, Gadbury Cottage is cosy and very comfortable whether your choice is for a winter or summer break. It offers an ideal location to discover Oxford and the nearby attractions of Oxford City, Blenheim Palace, Shotover Park, Waterperry Gardens, Otmoor nature reserve, the Chilterns and Cotswolds Hills. Wheatley has all the facilities to meet your immediate needs - 2 foodstores, baker, coffee shop, post office, bank and choice of restaurants and pubs. The village has a long history through it's location on the main coaching route from London to Oxford - it was once descibed as the most agreeable stopping place between Beaconsfield and Woodstock. Today it's transport links are still excellent being just 2 miles from the Thornhills Park and Ride and a similar distance from the M40. There are regular bus services to Oxford and to Haddenham/Thame train station. Central London is c53 miles and Heathrow c45 miles, both have good public transport links.

About Mrs Jenny Steele

My husband and I have recently retired and now have the time to focus our attention on our two holiday cottages. Between holiday lets we spend as much time as possible in our cottage in Devon as we love the area of the South Hams. We are also delighted to enable people to enjoy the wonderful City of Oxford and surrounding area whilst staying at our cottage in Wheatley.

Mrs Jenny Steele purchased this cottage in 1994

Why Mrs Jenny Steele chose Oxfordshire

Proximity to Oxford and convenient village location.

What makes this cottage unique

Easy access to the City of Oxford with its many attractions, yet set in peaceful village location with lovely countryside roundabout and excellent places to enjoy walking.

Sehr schönes Cottage

  • 4 of 5

A very comfortable stay in a quiet village close to the bustle of Oxford

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was excellent and we travelled in and out of Wheatley for day trips as near as Oxford

and as far as Hughenden Manor.

It was always nice to return to the peace and quiet of the cottage after each day out. There is a very good fish and chip shop nearby.

Just perfect.

  • 5 of 5

Arriving from New Zealand my son and I stayed 9 nights in Gadbury Cottage in January as he was starting a job in the Oxford area. It proved to be the perfect base as he worked through his residency and employment documentation, found a flat to rent, purchased a car, etc.

The cottage is very well equipped, very comfortable and clean, and most importantly in January it was lovely and warm with plenty of hot water for showers. The wifi is fast and reliable which was very important for our searching and communication. Local shops, restaurants and pubs are just a short walk away, with a major supermarket only 5 minutes drive.

Jenny and Martin were very welcoming and assisted us with a lot of local knowledge, answering many questions relating to my son getting established in the UK, which was very much appreciated.

very nice cottage, ideal location for Oxford

  • 4 of 5

Very pleasant owners (even left bottle of wine) and a warm cottage with lovely bedroom, with quality furnishings, and comfortable lounge. Beautiful garden. Ideal for Oxford, as on good bus route, and close to Le Manoir. Slight downside is kitchen, if you do your own catering, as it is very small and therefore a little challenging!

Clean, convenient and full of character

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was very clean with everything we needed for our stay. The location is ideal for visiting Oxford with plenty of buses into the city from nearby.

I would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage. Our only disappointment was that the weather wasn't fine enough to enjoy a glass of wine in the superb garden.

Definitely 5 star.
