In fashionable Faro de Cullera. Village atmosphere where all local shop, bar and restaurnt owners known by name. We are regulars and love it

A one bedroom flat, on the eighth floor on the sea front above rocks just 10 metres away!


Orion block was built in the 1970ies and we refurbished our flat 3 years ago with a modern bathroom and open plan kitchen and new furniture, including an expensive easily operated bed settee in the lounge. Faro de Cullera is a mile north end of Cullera old town, itself with many properties linking the two centres. Cullera, surrounded by orange groves, rice fields and its fishing port on the Jucar river has an old quarter which remains occupied all year round. In winter Faro de Cullera is very quiet and only comes to life with summer, blessed with fabulous beaches, restaurants and shops

Our favourite months are from May half term to mid June, and from first week in September, when the schools go back. Our Canadian brother uses the flat in February from where he enjoys the peace and quiet and from where he trains as a marathon runner with a number of circuits in the nearby mountains. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnOyA3ZaFOI He comes back with a tan from 300 sunny days a year in the region.

A 20 minute drive takes you to El Palmar, a village in the middle of the Albufera lake. Famous for its boat trips. Take one at 12pm and return to lunch with a Paella and a few jugs of Sangria in one of the excellent open air restaurants in the village square

About Luis Castillo

Beth and I are recently retired from professional positions. We live in South West London and enjoy many hobbies, sport, sailing and 6 grandchildren.

My parents came to the UK as refugees from Spain during the Spanish Civil war. Our mother returned to live in her native Valencia as a widow about 12 years ago. Having property in Valencia and a holiday home in nearby Cullera (see alternative posting on Owners Direct webpage), we are able to visit her easily and enjoy the delights of this fascinating city and enjoy the sun drenched seaside.

My two brothers and I have agreed that the flats need to pay their way, so we are offering to share them with responsible tenants from the UK.

We hope they give you as much pleasure as they have us and our families.

Why Luis Castillo chose Valencia Province

This property was bought for holiday use and has been in the family ever since my father bought it in the 1970ies. After a total refurbishment about 3 years ago it provides excellent accommodation which is regularly used by our expanding family. Ideal for our two daughter's families with children who use the bedroom and adults the bed settee.

I has astonishing views - in fact land can be seen in the far distance, otherwise you could be on a balcony cabin in a cruise ship. The sea can be heard lapping the rocks below.

It has different characteristics depending on whether you want peace and tranquillity in the off peak months, or reliable sun and beach with a lot of local life.

We have got to know all the local bar owners by name and couldn't but recommend all options.

What makes this apartment unique

We just love going to the flat and enjoying the local facilities. Valencia is just 40 minute drive away where Mum lives so visiting her is easy as well as the countless sites. A very Spanish location with barely a foreign tourist in sight. No fish and chip shops, but plenty for the Spanish to enjoy.

Needs must, so we are putting the flat and its rental on a more formal footing, as hitherto it has been ad hoc.

Notes on accommodation: There are beach chairs, sun shades, beach toys, bats and balls, and tennis racquets and balls. We have a folding bike for guests' use as there is a lovely paved sea side esplanade to Cullera. Consum, a large supermarket is about 1/2 mile on the Cullera road. Outside: There are two pools, one 25 metres and another smaller shallow pool for tots. These pools are shared by three blocks of flats but there are invariably plenty of sunbeds. It is maintained very clean and popular with families and young people. There are a number of organised parties and pool side competitions, and evening discos organised by the life guards in the busy summer months. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAgdHMVx_rc A tennis club about a mile away welcomes visitors at 7 Euros per player. It has a number of ropey clay courts but excellent artificial court. Go for that one as I do with my tennis partner every year. We enjoy a cold beer on the tennis club terrace overlooking the mountains after a game. In February it is often over 20C. Utility Room: N/A Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The flat will have been prepared for your stay and cleaned hereafter. This is included in rental. All towels for bathroom, beach and spare bedding, duvets etc. in wardrobe. Additional cleaning can be arranged for longer stays at renter's cost. Other: N/A

Fantásticas e inmejorables vistas desde el apartamento. Está muy cuidado y tiene de todo. El anfitrión es muy simpático y agradable y estuvo siempre disponible. Tuvimos una estancia muy agradable ya que el emplazamiento y la ubicación son ideales para pasar unas vacaciones tranquilas. Sin duda un apartamento para volver de nuevo.

Ideal location for family.

We, family of 4, had a memorable couple of weeks in Cullera during the month of August. It is a very family orientated resort and we felt safer here than at home in London!

The flat was spotless and very well equipped, very much home from home. There is a superb, uninterrupted view of the Mediterranean which went above our expectations. The swimming pool was very clean and well maintained and it was reassuring to have 2 lifeguards on duty at all times. Our time at the beach was spent in the small bay as it tended to be much quieter than the larger one. We enjoyed the walk into the main town on several occasions but also took the opportunity to visit further inland as well as a timely visit to Valencia to watch a football match.

The owner, Luis, provided excellent customer service from start to finish. All questions were answered promptly and honestly and the information provided on the flat was very detailed. Should we ever decide to return to the area we would not hesitate to stay at the flat again.

Brilliant Cullera seafront apartment

I have just returned from a comfortable and relaxing stay at this apartment with sea views to die for.

The apartment has all the facilities to keep you comfortable for your stay and was found in excellent order. There is a friendly bar at the foot of the apartment block which serves a great range of food and drinks at very reasonable prices, the sepia ( small squid) is highly recommended. The apartment block is adjacent to 2 beaches, 1 smaller for those that may enjoy a bit of body boarding in the Faro area and the endless, sandy Cullera beach starts at the foot of the apartment steps.

There are local shops for your grocery needs and the tapas in the nearby Chalet hotel is the best in Cullera. The busier main resort is just a short walk, ideal to walk off a large meal in one of the many fine restaurants.

The bus stop that can take you to the main railway station in Cullera is a few minutes away, with a reliable and cheap service (1 euro 35 cents). During our stay we took a short train ride to the resort of Gandia for just a few Euros. A day out in Valencia is also recommended and accessible via Cullera station.

All in all a fantastic holiday with great facilities and cant wait to return.

Flat very comfortable and well appointed. Excellent restaurants on your doorstep. Wide sandy beach, lovely bathing in the sea also private residents swimming pool available in the summer months.

Perfect for the 4 of us

The property and location is perfect. The apartment is overlooking the sea with the beach just walking distance from the building. Cullera is a family friendly Spanish holiday resort with ample choice of restaurants either on your doorstep or if you like to walk a little further, there is even more choice on a busier walkway along the beach at the other end. Lots to do: hiring of pedal boats etc. Luis (the owner of the apartment) was very hospitable and allowed us the use of surf boards, parasol which was a great help.

Also the information provided by Luis about the resort and apartment really helped us find our way around quickly.

The beach is perfectly safe for children and there is a life guard at watch. There is a beach across the other side as well (further walk away) if you like the waves.

A useful tip for any guests wishing to stay is most restaurants kitchens do not open until 8.30 p.m. so if like us you like to eat early, you will find it difficult to get an evening meal before 8.30. Best way to do it is get up later and have a later lunch. Please also note that if you are hiring a car parking is very limited (in August). There is lots of local parking in the area within easy walking distance just be sure not to park on a pavement marked with a yellow line.

Overall, we would recommend this holiday to any family that has two kids that wants a nice peaceful beach resort with a pool. Everything is within easy reach of the apartment.

I couldn't really add to it other than to agree that parking is very difficult during Spain's school holidays - July and August. Best to rely on busses and trains once you are installed.. There are also a few local attractions including the Cuevas de Dragut (pirate caves just 200 yards from the flat), the castle and sanctuary on the hills above old Cullera town, giving wonderful views across Cullera and of course the Aqua Park - Aquopolis, just a short taxi ride away from the flat. Great for a day out with the kids. The local tennis club, with restaurant and pool, again a short taxi ride, and the wonderful esplanade along the front. A good walk to get there and bus or taxi home at about 6 Euros if your feet are complaining! Lisa, you and the family are most welcome any time in future. Best wishes Luis and Beth

Lovely apartment in a wonderful location
