1 Bedroom Sea Front Flat. Sleeps 2/4. Incredible Sea Views. Refurbished

Updated: 11-Oct-2016
In fashionable Faro de Cullera. Village atmosphere where all local shop, bar and restaurnt owners known by name. We are regulars and love it

A one bedroom flat, on the eighth floor on the sea front above rocks just 10 metres away!

Orion block was built in the 1970ies and we refurbished our flat 3 years ago with a modern bathroom and open plan kitchen and new furniture, including an expensive easily operated bed settee in the lounge. Faro de Cullera is a mile north end of Cullera old town, itself with many properties linking the two centres. Cullera, surrounded by orange groves, rice fields and its fishing port on the Jucar river has an old quarter which remains occupied all year round. In winter Faro de Cullera is very quiet and only comes to life with summer, blessed with fabulous beaches, restaurants and shops

(copy and paste into browser) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cF7Pj3HFB8Q.

Our favourite months are from May half term to mid June, and from first week in September, when the schools go back. Our Canadian brother uses the flat in February from where he enjoys the peace and quiet and from where he trains as a marathon runner with a number of circuits in the nearby mountains. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnOyA3ZaFOI He comes back with a tan from 300 sunny days a year in the region.

A 20 minute drive takes you to El Palmar, a village in the middle of the Albufera lake. Famous for its boat trips. Take one at 12pm and return to lunch with a Paella and a few jugs of Sangria in one of the excellent open air restaurants in the village square

About the Owner

Beth and I are recently retired from professional positions. We live in South West London and enjoy many hobbies, sport, sailing and 6 grandchildren.

My parents came to the UK as refugees from Spain during the Spanish Civil war. Our mother returned to live in her native Valencia as a widow about 12 years ago. Having property in Valencia and a holiday home in nearby Cullera (see alternative posting on Owners Direct webpage), we are able to visit her easily and enjoy the delights of this fascinating city and enjoy the sun drenched seaside.

My two brothers and I have agreed that the flats need to pay their way, so we are offering to share them with responsible tenants from the UK.

We hope they give you as much pleasure as they have us and our families.

Ideal location for family.

  • 5 of 5

We, family of 4, had a memorable couple of weeks in Cullera during the month of August. It is a very family orientated resort and we felt safer here than at home in London!

The flat was spotless and very well equipped, very much home from home. There is a superb, uninterrupted view of the Mediterranean which went above our expectations. The swimming pool was very clean and well maintained and it was reassuring to have 2 lifeguards on duty at all times. Our time at the beach was spent in the small bay as it tended to be much quieter than the larger one. We enjoyed the walk into the main town on several occasions but also took the opportunity to visit further inland as well as a timely visit to Valencia to watch a football match.

The owner, Luis, provided excellent customer service from start to finish. All questions were answered promptly and honestly and the information provided on the flat was very detailed. Should we ever decide to return to the area we would not hesitate to stay at the flat again.

Many thanks Luis!

Brilliant Cullera seafront apartment

  • 5 of 5

I have just returned from a comfortable and relaxing stay at this apartment with sea views to die for.

The apartment has all the facilities to keep you comfortable for your stay and was found in excellent order. There is a friendly bar at the foot of the apartment block which serves a great range of food and drinks at very reasonable prices, the sepia ( small squid) is highly recommended. The apartment block is adjacent to 2 beaches, 1 smaller for those that may enjoy a bit of body boarding in the Faro area and the endless, sandy Cullera beach starts at the foot of the apartment steps.

There are local shops for your grocery needs and the tapas in the nearby Chalet hotel is the best in Cullera. The busier main resort is just a short walk, ideal to walk off a large meal in one of the many fine restaurants.

The bus stop that can take you to the main railway station in Cullera is a few minutes away, with a reliable and cheap service (1 euro 35 cents). During our stay we took a short train ride to the resort of Gandia for just a few Euros. A day out in Valencia is also recommended and accessible via Cullera station.

All in all a fantastic holiday with great facilities and cant wait to return.

Owner's Response: Thanks guys, so pleased you enjoyed yourselves during your stay. It sounds as though you took full advantage of all the best bits of Cullera and found the flat to your liking. You can't beat the views and could be on a ship balcony, as the pics show. Anyway, you are more than welcome next year but book up early. This summer was almost fully occupied. Luis and Beth

Perfect for the 4 of us

  • 5 of 5

The property and location is perfect. The apartment is overlooking the sea with the beach just walking distance from the building. Cullera is a family friendly Spanish holiday resort with ample choice of restaurants either on your doorstep or if you like to walk a little further, there is even more choice on a busier walkway along the beach at the other end. Lots to do: hiring of pedal boats etc. Luis (the owner of the apartment) was very hospitable and allowed us the use of surf boards, parasol which was a great help.

Also the information provided by Luis about the resort and apartment really helped us find our way around quickly.

The beach is perfectly safe for children and there is a life guard at watch. There is a beach across the other side as well (further walk away) if you like the waves.

A useful tip for any guests wishing to stay is most restaurants kitchens do not open until 8.30 p.m. so if like us you like to eat early, you will find it difficult to get an evening meal before 8.30. Best way to do it is get up later and have a later lunch. Please also note that if you are hiring a car parking is very limited (in August). There is lots of local parking in the area within easy walking distance just be sure not to park on a pavement marked with a yellow line.

Overall, we would recommend this holiday to any family that has two kids that wants a nice peaceful beach resort with a pool. Everything is within easy reach of the apartment.

Owner's Response: Lisa Thank you for your 5* review. All have been given this rating so we must be doing something right!! Most generous. I couldn't really add to it other than to agree that parking is very difficult during Spain's school holidays - July and August. Best to rely on busses and trains once you are installed.. There are also a few local attractions including the Cuevas de Dragut (pirate caves just 200 yards from the flat), the castle and sanctuary on the hills above old Cullera town, giving wonderful views across Cullera and of course the Aqua Park - Aquopolis, just a short taxi ride away from the flat. Great for a day out with the kids. The local tennis club, with restaurant and pool, again a short taxi ride, and the wonderful esplanade along the front. A good walk to get there and bus or taxi home at about 6 Euros if your feet are complaining! Lisa, you and the family are most welcome any time in future. Best wishes Luis and Beth

Owner's Response: Mrs H Thank you for your positive review. Reading it gives us reassurance we continue on the right track. We also love staying in the flat having refurbished and developed it over the years to the standard you clearly enjoyed. Staying there ourselves gives us the oportunity to keep on top of any issues that might arise. You are welcome to stay anytime and join our growing list of 'returners'. Best wishes, Luis and Beth

Chilled out in Cullera

  • 5 of 5

From the start this holiday delivered on all fronts. The travel arrangements suggested by the owner were perfect and easy to follow. Although three different forms of transport it was stress free and at a total cost of €19.10 per couple kind on the pocket. The apartment was clean and well equipped and a stunning view out to sea and across to the main town of Cullera. The apartment had the sun until about 2 pm which is when we would sit out for our lunch on the balcony enjoying the views. We eat out most days although reversed that on a Sunday lunching out along with the rest of the Spanish. The air con was great at night with it filtering through to the bedroom for a decent nights sleep. We had temperatures up in the 30's during the day but still had comfort at night. (Keep the bathroom door shut for maximum effect). It would be easy to stay in and around Faro and there are plenty of places to eat out at. It is well worth making the effort to get on the bus and go into the main town €2.70 per couple each way. Get off by the police station to enjoy the restaurants or a walk along the prom. We did this on a number of nights enjoying the buzzy atmosphere before returning to Faro from the same location. Underneath the apartments sits the Voramar bar which serves up drink, food, football and friendship. The owners really make you welcome and a great stop off on the way home and a good place for coffee at the start of your day. This apartment makes a great base to explore, it delivers a feel good factor and one that made us sad to leave. The owners provide good support in the case of any problems. We booked to return before we had initially stayed and for us this was a good decision as we are already planning what to do in September. On Thursday the local market is held up in the old part of town and gives you an opportunity to visit the municipal market for local produce. Again we used the bus to travel and again very easy.

Eating out we went to Rincon de Faro near the Consumer supermarket, good food slightly pretentious waiting staff, Mar de Oro in the main town on the front great Sunday lunch, Benavent in Faro looking over the small beach, great location good food deals nice service, Voramar for tapas super plate of sardines and try Tigres. I could go on and on but to anyone that enjoys Spanish Spain get out there and enjoy it. This was a great cultural experience and a pleasure to experience at this lovely apartment. Thanks very much.

Owner's Response: Howard and Hillary, Thank you for going to such an effort in your review and for the detail you wrote. It will be very useful to future guests although you will be back in September, when the sea is still warm enough to bathe and the sun still tans. Much quieter then, of course as the children are back to school but unfortunately the pool closed. June and September are our favourite months. Best wishes to you both! Luis and Beth

From the Owner

This property was bought for holiday use and has been in the family ever since my father bought it in the 1970ies. After a total refurbishment about 3 years ago it provides excellent accommodation which is regularly used by our expanding family. Ideal for our two daughter's families with children who use the bedroom and adults the bed settee. I has astonishing views - in fact land can be seen in the far distance, otherwise you could be on a balcony cabin in a cruise ship. The sea can be heard lapping the rocks below. It has different characteristics depending on whether you want peace and tranquillity in the off peak months, or reliable sun and beach with a lot of local life. We have got to know all the local bar owners by name and couldn't but recommend all options.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Valencia at 50 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Voramar, El Chalet, ADSL etc at 10 Metres Nearest Ferry : Valencia at 50 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Several, eg El Saler, at 25 Kilometres Nearest Train : Cullera at 3 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : Cullera at 4 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : About 10 within 200 metres at 10 Metres Nearest Ski : at 200 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Two beaches, large family and for adults at 100 Metres Car: not necessary

Special interest holidays: Fabulous beaches and excellent resort. 99% Spanish who come from as far as Madrid.

Tennis club where visitors are welcomed, about 1.5 miles away and karting in summer only about 5 miles towards Valencia on the coast road

The two beaches have different characteristics. A large family beach, 50 yards away with palm trees, restaurants with beach terraces and acres of open sand with a gentle slope into the sea - idea for young children. 200 metres away a very picturesque smaller beach for serious sun bathers, also with its own family run restaurant. All do excellent Paellas and Sangrias.

Although both Alicante and Valencia are the closest airports, we use Valencia as from the airport you can hire a car, very reasonable off peak, or take the metro into town and a 40 minute train trip to Cullera on the Gandia line. A bus 15 minute ride takes you almost to the front door. Local buses are timed to meet the train.

Valencia is about 30 miles from Cullera and has a host of places to visit. The famous City of Arts and Sciences and many historic monuments. Old town Cullera has a number of Spanish restaurants and many bars on the sea front or tucked behind the main thoroughfares. There is Sanctuary in Cullera up the hill well worth a trip for the views afforded there.

Further Details:

There are several local shops, and a large supermarket, Consum, about half a mile towards town. We know all the owners of local bars and restaurants and they are without fail, warm and hospitable but very little English is spoken.

The famous Albufera Lake is a nature reserve set in the rice growing region about 5 miles south of the city. There you can enjoy bird watching and boat trips etc. and of course sample a paella at the probable birthplace if the world famous dish!

Going further south you have the great beaches along the coast road towards Gandia, Javea,.Benidorm, Alicante.

Towards Valencia, the nudist beach is about 2 kilometres. Roman ruins of Sagunto and inland the regions wine towns including Utiel and Requena, all within easy reach of Valencia. Valencia is a 40 minute train ride from Cullera. Buses and taxi service the station.

From the Owner

We just love going to the flat and enjoying the local facilities. Valencia is just 40 minute drive away where Mum lives so visiting her is easy as well as the countless sites. A very Spanish location with barely a foreign tourist in sight. No fish and chip shops, but plenty for the Spanish to enjoy. Needs must, so we are putting the flat and its rental on a more formal footing, as hitherto it has been ad hoc.
