If its peace and tranquillity you desire and a chance to unwind from the stresses of modern life, to gaze at black velvet skies with no light pollution and study the stars, you would be sure to relax in this beautifully designed home with amazing views across gentle rolling hills and an ancient forest beyond. Large comfortable salon and dining room with French doors opening onto a large flower filled terrace that has views over the garden, the château (to be restored) and countryside. Try your culinary skills in the superb kitchen and create a meal from the fresh local produce which abounds here.

On the border of the Vienne and the Loire we are well placed to visit the many chateaux in this pretty unspoilt region. Futuroscope the European park of the moving image is 40 minutes way. It's a 'must do' for children and for adults.

This year, why not enjoy Christmas & New Year in France? This time of the year it is usually very mild with beautifull big blue skies and warm winter sun. Plenty of space for all the family. Light the wood burner before you go for long country walks and return to a cosy and warm house. Prepare your Christmas meal in the large kitchen, plenty of space for all the family to help. Serve your festive feast at the large farmhouse table in the warm and cosy salon. (The house has central heating as well as a log burner in the Salon).

We are John and Glyn and have lived here since 1998. John has his own business here project managing for people purchasing their dream homes. And between us we run a B & B and the gîte. We purchased our first house (or ruin)! in 1994. Slowly restoring the 15th century manor house and in the process decided to make the move to France in 1998.

After finally finishing our gorgeous home we then went on to buy our present house which needed a lot of work to bring it back to life and a place where people would want to come and stay.We worked had to restore and decorate the rooms and then of course the 'petite cottage' which is lovely and in the best spot in the grounds.

We have 1 lovely dog and 2 cats who will often want to come and visit you!

Why mme Ward chose Vienne

When we first came to view the property, we had what the French call 'un coup de coeur'. we would say 'fallen head over heals' It was too late to change our minds, we had fallen in love. The romantic 'Gentilhommière' captured our imagination. The garden which is huge, is planted with Yew trees the boughs of which touch the ground and form a circle, have survived nearly 300 years. But it was the amazing view that enchanted us. You can see for miles, over the ancient forest and beyond. In the spring there are fields of bright yellow 'rape' and in the summer when the sunflowers are in flower it is stunning here. It is so unbelievably quiet here even though we are walking distance to a lovely village. And now when our guests come to stay and fall in love with this special place as well, it makes all the hard work worthwhile.

The apartment is on the first floor of the converted stables which is connected to our main residence. There is a private entrance for the apartment which is located from the terrace. Outside: Large garden of over 3 acres with stunning views. Ancient yew trees and speciman trees. Private and safe car parking . Garden salon furniture for your comfort. Large outdoor table and chairs. Shared heated pool with terrace and sunbeds. (8 x 4) Owners house is adjoined to the property. Lovely holiday home in a stunning setting

We loved staying at L'Olivier, the house is very pretty, comfortable and tastefully furnished with every thing you could need. We had a secluded garden area complete with loungers and BBQ, and also access to the large garden and heated pool surrounded by more loungers and large shady trees. John and Glyn were very friendly and welcoming. We could cycle or walk into the village for groceries, and there is plenty to do in the surrounding area. Thanks for having us!

Lovely well presented accommodation

A most enjoyable stay in a lovely clean, character filled Villa with pool, also with a fantastic kitchen for aspiring chefs. John and Glyn were very welcoming and helpful and pointed us in the right direction for some great locations and attractions within the region, (we didn't know much about the region before arriving and were pleased to find lots of Chateaux and Caves, and attractions such as Futuroscope, Saumur Tank museum etc). Lovely scenery and weather too! Very child friendly and relaxed.

Highly recommended.

Further Details:

On the border of the Loire we are well placed to discover the many Châteaux such as the famous Villandry and it's fabulous gardens. The small but beautiful Château in Azay le Rideau and also maybe the lesser know but lovely Château du Rivau.

The theme park of Futuroscope, the European Park of the Moving image, makes for a fabulous day out or two. Stay the evening and watch the wonderful 'son et lumiere'.

There are many 'Beaux Villages' to visit so many places to visit, the list is endless.

The village has all commerce and is just a couple of minutes walk away; small well stocked supermarket, newsagent, hairdresser, post office, chemist, bank and a wonderful bakers. Bar/tabac and a restaurant/bar. Even a beautician and a theatre. There is a good restaurant 8 kms away. Please note there is a bar in the village and another bar/restaurant where you can have a very good lunch. He sometimes closes in the evening (the restaurant) if there are no bookings. He is always closed for the month of August, as many places are during this month.

A 30% deposit is required at the time of booking. Balance due six weeks before the arrival date. If booked less than 6 weeks prior to arrival, payment is to be made in full. A deposit is required of £300 euros , against breakages, cleaning etc. Which will be returned less any charges in the following week after the end of your holiday.
