Cottage in Modbury, South Devon, England - Absolute Peace and Tranquility Situated Near The South Devon Coast And Dartmoor

Welcome to Hidden Valley Holidays....!

Surrounded by its own 62 acres of farmland, orchards and vineyards, Vineyard Cottage is situated in the tranquil Witchcoombe Valley, close to the picturesque market town of Modbury. The sandy beaches of Bantham, Bigbury-on-Sea and Thurlestone are less than 5 miles away, and the nearby natural harbours of Salcombe and the River Yealm offer sheltered waters for sailing and other watersports. Surfing at Bigbury and Bantham is excellent. Coombe Farm has 2 properties available to let; Coombe Farmhouse for up to 12 guests and Vineyard Cottage, a one-bedroom house for 2 guests. During the peak summer holiday season, (mid-July to early September) Vineyard Cottage is only available for rent with Coombe Farmhouse, to ensure privacy for guests who spend much of their time outside in the Courtyard and in the pool. However, for the remainder of the year when guests tend to spend more of their time indoors, Vineyard Cottage is available separately. The property has a south facing aspect, forming part of a sunny and sheltered courtyard overlooking a small stream in the valley below. Vineyard Cottage is a perfect summer holiday location and is also ideal for autumn, winter and spring breaks, with a log fire and cosy accommodation. The location is truly rural, offering complete peace and serenity. The Cottage is not suitable for wheelchair users due to stair access to the bedroom and bathroom. The Farm includes a series of small pastures at the bottom of the valley, through which 2 shallow, clear trout streams run - fun for children to play in, with some adult supervision - the fields are home to a small flock of friendly Grey Faced Dartmoor sheep and a few young Devon Ruby Red and Galloway cows. Behind the barns, up the hillside, we have planted a 150-tree cider apple orchard - all traditional West Country varieties - and 2 vineyards - the first, 6500 Pinot Noir grape vines; the second, 3500 Bacchus vines). The apples and grapes will become commercially productive in 3-4 years' time.

We live close to Coombe Farm, in the original farmhouse, just along the valley and we have busy careers that take us away overseas for much of the time, but we love to return to the tranquillity and beauty of Coombe Farm in South Devon where we can recharge and relax. We really enjoy the rural environment at Coombe Farm - great wildlife, cliff top and moorland walking, sailing and fly fishing...

Why Lance Whitehead chose South Hams

Coombe Farm is located in a beautiful hidden valley in the South Hams district of South Devon equidistant between the Coast and Dartmoor - both less than 30 minutes away.

The place offers real peace and tranquillity; the only sounds are the birds and the occasional calling of our Grey Faced Dartmoor sheep and friendly Red Devon cows, and the trickle of a small trout stream running along the valley - no noise from cars or aircraft - it is almost like England 70 years ago. Abundant wildlife and wild flowers are great for nature lovers

The House is surrounded by its own 62 acres of arable land - a 6500 vine Pinot Noir vineyard, a 3500 vine Bacchus vineyard and a cider apple orchard have been planted in recent years.

What makes this cottage unique

We spend most of our time here enjoying the privacy, peace and beauty of the valley within which the house is situated, looking after our farm.

The property is a perfect blend of old and new - converted about 5 years ago and Vine Cottage was fully refurbished in 2014 for the 2015 season.

We love the tranquillity of the valley and the views across the Devon countryside. We enjoy the many activities locally - clay pigeon shooting on our land, fishing, canoeing, sailing and surfing - all can be arranged for our guests.

Notes on accommodation: The accommodation has been finished to a very high standard during a full refurbishment in 2014. Newly decorated, new floor tiles, carpets, kitchen equipment etc Outside: Vine Cottage is situated in a 62 acre farm with vineyards, orchards and pasture for cows, sheep and chickens. Guest are free to roam the farm and collect fresh eggs. There is plenty of room for parking. The Cottage has a stone terrace with views across and along a beautiful valley. A wrought iron table and 4 chairs are provided and a Weber barbeque Utility Room: Located under the stairs, the Utility Room is equipped with a washer/drier, vacuum cleaner and cleaning materials and the central heating boiler. Additional kitchen utensils and trays are also stored here Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The Cottage is provided with clean bed linen and bath towels and hand towels. The property is cleaned immediately before guests' arrival and on a weekly basis thereafter

This is a perfect little gem hidden in a beautiful location. The property has everything that you need and sitting outside on the terrace is a great spot. The owners when contacted were very quick to respond and helpful. If you are looking for a well organised cottage for 2 in a visually stunning valley then this is the place.

Stunning

We spent two wonderful weeks at this special cottage which was situated in stunning surroundings and being very well equipped with high quality kitchenware, bedding and towels. Although you do need a car, most places were very close by ie Salcombe, Dartmouth, Dartmouth, Totnes, Kingsbridge and Modbury to name but a few. We were made to feel very welcome by Lance the owner and wish him and Caroline every success with their Vineyard. We can not wait to return.

Fabulous

This beautiful cottage is "everything it says on the tin" at a very competitive price

High standard decor, furniture & equipment, in a fabulous location, just right for that get away from it all break. Lovely for cosy nights in after busy days out! Especially delightful bedroom, lounge & bathroom.

Very substantial welcome pack and every possible thoughtful item provided and instant action on 2 minor issues we raised.

Definitely want to return and glad that we found this idyllic spot.

One suggestion to help others would be a few local interest leaflets and some local information' also instruction leaflets for all kitchen equipment, TV & heating.

Thank you Lance for excellent communications and help before, during and after our visit, I am sure we will see you again.

As this is a newly prepared property we will strive to maintain the standard. Coombe Farm, of which Vine Cottage is a part, was nominated by the Sunday Times as one of the Top 50 Places to Stay in 2015. The Cottage is great for couples looking for somewhere to get away for a few days - A car is essential, though to make the best of what the local area has to offer but many guests do spend much of their time relaxing in the tranquil setting, overlooking a stream and lake. We will gather some local area information and will put the instruction leaflets in a folder for future guests....! Best wishes Lance Whitehead
