Approached down a long drive, the substantial farmhouse is surrounded by 10 hectares of fields and vineyards. There are fruit trees – cherries, apples, pears, plums and figs – and our visitors are welcome to enjoy these in season. Around the property are sweeping lawns, shaded by acacia and horse chestnut. There are seating areas too, dotted around, to make the most of the peaceful views. Enjoy a game of Boules or table tennis. Take a walk through the beautiful unspoilt countryside. The Haybarn apartment is completely separate from the main house, with its own private entrance, which opens to a flight of stairs taking the visitor up to a huge open-plan space with real Wow factor. This has been designed with care and flair – a fully equipped kitchen area, (fridge, oven/hob, microwave, toaster, dishwasher & washing machine) a comfortable seating area with TV, DVD, CD player with surround sound and Wifi, and a cosy bedroom area with wardrobe and chest of drawers. There is also a large separate shower room and loo, and a storage space for vacuum cleaner and ironing board. Guests have their own outside eating area and use of covered parking.

We bought Le Mouret in 2002 and after complete renovation of the main house we used it for our holidays and let it as a holiday rental until 2010 when we moved here full time. The Barn was converted a few years ago and we decided to let it this year as my husband is now semi-retired. We love the Gers and have made many friends here.

Why Ian and Mary Roberts chose Gers
The story of why we bought a property here is a long one - but briefly we were looking for something that was peaceful and tranquil, where people could come and be restored. Over the years we have seen this happen. The Gers is one of the most beautiful, unspoilt departments in France. Camus described it as the "Tuscany of France", which is possibly why many English feel drawn to it.
What makes this apartment unique
Whilst clearly rural, being an old farm, it is only 3 kilometers from a town. So we have the convenience of a thriving town together with the peace of a rural farmhouse.

Excellent Gite and location
We were delighted with the space and equipment of the Gite provided by our delightful hosts Mary and Ian. Located just outside Condom in beautiful grounds it was a perfect location for our house hunting. The Gite was very spacious, very clean and well maintained. It could easily have been designed as two bedroom but instead was an open plan lounge, big bed and kitchen in a huge room. It was equipped with everything you would need for your stay, including a quality 'welcome pack', all the pots and pans, cutlery and electrical equipment you could want, including dishwasher. A covered parking space protected the car from the sun or rain. A five min drive and you were on the edge of Condom. You were also in the countryside for lovely walks. Ian was always on hand to offer advice and help, or have a chat. Our flight was cancelled due to a strike and luckily for us we were able to stay an extra five nights. We would readily stay again as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and happily recommend this gite.
Lovely apartment in a beautiful location
We have just returned from this lovely apartment and had a fantastic week there. The location is great for visiting the Gers region and the scenery in the area is beautiful. The apartment is like a home from home with everything you need for a relaxing time and is very comfortable. The hosts Ian & Mary are lovely people and make you feel so welcome. They are on hand to help and give advice but you also have enough privacy as the layout of the property is well thought out. I would recommend this place if you want a relaxing week in a stunning location.
Beautiful, peaceful, perfect
A lovely apartment in beautiful grounds with a very welcome pool (it was HOT!). Ian and Mary were perfect hosts - welcoming, friendly and charming. The apartment is spacious - it is a large studio with curtained sleeping area which works really well for two of you - the kithcen is "proper" not "-ette" which was very welcome. Bathroom down the corridor was roomy and well fitted. Highly recommend and wouldn't hesitate to go back.
A place to relax
We loved the Barn at Le Mouret - it's fantastically well equipped and the space is light and airy. Ian and Mary are great hosts and have thought of everything. There's a private dining area outside which has lovely views over a sunflower field. The pool is lovely and the garden is beautiful. It's the perfect place to relax and unwind on site but within easy reach of local towns and some nice restaurants if you want to explore the area.
My wife and I have been here twice on painting holidays and found the garden and area nearby quite lovely, tranquil and rather special. Further afield there are lots of interesting chateaux, churches and small villages within an easy drive.
The Hay Barn itself is a really comfortable, light and well designed space with all the facilities one needs to make it a very relaxing place to stay.
A Haven of Peace
Our second visit to the delightful Le Mouret, and we shall certainly return. A perfect base to explore the beautiful area with its Bastide towns and villages, or just to relax by the pool in the lovely garden. Just as good as it looks in the photos, the Haybarn has everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Activity and Interests
The nearest beach, on France's Atlantic coast, is at Mimizan Plage. It's around 2 hour’s drive by car. Biarritz and the Arcachon basin are each around 3 hours drive.
From Calais, the drive is around 10 hours, and from St Malo, 7 hours. The nearest airports to Condom are Toulouse, (Easyjet, Flybe and BA) 1.5 hrs, Bordeaux, (BA, Easyjet and Ryanair) between 1.5 - 2hrs, and Bergerac (Easy jet and Ryanair), 2 – 2.5hrs. There are also excellent rail links to Agen via TGV. Car is essential.
The nearest town is Condom, some 3 kilometres,which has all amenities. Larger towns like Auch and Agen are approximately 40km., Nerac and Eauze and Lectoure 18km.
The Haybarn is the ideal place for those who hanker after peace and tranquility, but also a perfect base from which to explore this beautiful and fascinating part of France. It's not hard to fall in love with the unspoilt scenery, with its rolling hillsides covered in vineyards and sunflowers, and where the roads are good and largely traffic-free. This is a place of discovery and delight, history and tradition, of medieval hilltop villages and towns.
There is so much to see and do, if you can drag yourself away from the garden and poolside.
Places of interest include: Fources (pretty bastide village), La Romieu (major resting place for Compostella pilgrims), Larressingle (fortified village),the Abbaye de Flaran (13th Cistercian Abbey with noted Art collection), Lectoure (beautiful hilltop town), Seviac (Roman villa), not to mention Condom, Nerac and Auch.
In Condom you can hire electric bicycles, and go boating. There are riding stables nearby. A day trip to Pau and the Pyrennees, or to the Atlantic coast is worth consideration. There is wine and Armagnac tasting, Antique fairs, Art Exhibitions, Concerts, Night markets and colourful markets and fetes. For house-hunters it is a perfect base, and the owners are happy to recommend local immobiliers.
The area is very well served for restaurants, and the owners provide a list of these with their contact details. Condom is a thriving market town with several supermarkets as well as Banks, Pharmacies, a Tourist Office and a wide range of shops.

- Notes on accommodation: Two electric radiant heaters are available for cooler days in shoulder months. Outside: The grounds extend to some 25 acres, 3 of which are garden. There is a small area that is available exclusively for guests with a garden table, chairs and parasol. However, guests are welcome to walk in the grounds, sit elsewhere and to use the pool, which they would share with the owners and the owners’ guests when applicable. The Pool is 11 metres by 5 metres and is unheated. There is also a barbecue, table tennis table and Boules court. Utility Room: No separate utility room but in the storeroom (along the corridor), is an iron and ironing board, vacuum cleaner and other cleaning equipment. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen, Towels and swimming towels are included. The apartment is cleaned and towels & linen changed on change-over.
