Monument cottage is a beautiful. Detached renovated cottage offering modern amenities in a stunning, historic woodland location, positioned along the Scottish coastline.

This well-equipped cottage is ideally situated for golf, fishing, outdoor activities, families or those needing relaxation and peace in a tranquil, private setting.

The deciduous woodland environment is rich in wildlife with pheasant, roe deer and red squirrels among the many creatures making their home here. Broughty ferry, Carnoustie and Arbroath are only minutes away, offering beaches galore, harbours, championship golf courses and a castle or two.

Monument cottage is set in 88 acres of picturesque deciduous woodland, the beautiful setting is not only pleasing to the eye but is steeped in history principally revolving round the ancient monuments of the camus cross(dated 1010) and the panmure testimonial; both located with the grounds. The surrounding environment is rich in wildlife making the setting ideal for nature lovers, outdoor activity enthusiasts and history lovers alike.

About the area

Monikie Country Park is visible from the cottage and offers beautiful grounds, walks, play areas, fishing and water sports – including a climbing wall and Zip line.

The city of Dundee (UNESCO city of design & future home of the V&A) is a short drive away and offers arts & culture in abundance, family friendly attractions and all that you would expect from a city of its stature – museums, theatres and shopping.

Glamis Castle - family home of the Earls of Strathmore, childhood home of the Queen Mother and legendary setting for 'MacBeth'.

The Angus Glens 15 to 20 miles to the northwest possess some of Scotland’s finest grouse moors, deer forests and spectacular walks.

For the keen fisherman, there is salmon fishing on the rivers Tay, North Esk and South Esk, nearer to home are fishings offering Fly-fishing and Coarse fishing and for the more adventurous Sea fishing is available in nearby Arbroath.

Arbroath, the largest town in Angus is the location of Arbroath Abbey, where the declaration of independance was signed, expressing the desire of the Scottish people for self-determination. The popular culinary delight the Arbroath smokie is made in this picturesque fishing port .

Surrounding the area are restaurants to suit all tastes and wallets! The Craigton coaching Inn is within walking distance and is fine for family dining.

Broughty Ferry boasts several restaurants offering a variety - from local dishes to Indian and Chinese meals. Many of the larger hotels in the area also offer good restaurant food. Broughty Ferry is also home to Broughty Ferry Castle, some fantastic walks along the coast as well as varied, quality shopping.

Carnoustie, venue of the Open Golf Championship lies 10 minutes drive to the south east, alongside several other well-regarded local golf courses, many of championship qualifying standard. In addition St Andrews, the home of golf is 30 – 45 minutes drive.

We have lived in the area for over 30 years and bought our beautiful 88 acres, when the original Panmure Estate was sold in 2002. It is a stunning location,with a constantly changing pattern - a secluded location, yet only 5 mins from the beach.

Guests at the cottage enjoy the peace & freedom to roam the area, beautiful beaches and variety of places to see and activities for all.

Absolutely beautiful cottage, spotlessly clean. Fantastic location. Lovely spacious rooms. Lovely views. Well equipped and very comfortable. Surprised by a lovely wecome pack. The log fire was brilliant. The best cottage we have ever stayed in.

Lovely

We had a lovely few days in this property. The garden was full of spring flowers, birds and squirrels and the cottage was very welcoming. It was cosy and clean and had everything we needed. The gift basket was much appreciated, as was the fridge full of essentials.

Brilliant location just what we needed.

We were totally amazed with this cottage as we drove up to it. Getting in to the cottage wad even more amazing.

We loved our stay and the welcome basket was very well appreciated.

We look forward to coming back again in the future.

The home owners were very friendly and had some very good tips on places to go and things to do.

The local wildlife was great and very interesting to watch.

Our kids loved the garden and the monument.

I cannot recommend any higher this cottage.

We will definitely recommend this to our family and friends.

Great cottage. A home from home.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Lovely welcome basket, over flowing with tasty essentials and goodies. Immaculate, homely and comfortable. Sharon popped over to welcome us and to ensure that we had settled in. Could not ask for anything more from a holiday cottage. Looking forward to returning.

Special interest holidays:

Accompanied shooting outings in grounds with DMQ level 2 guide. Subject to seasonal availability quarry includes Roe deer, flighting pidgeons & pheasant.

Coast/Beach:

Nearest beach 5 mins drive, there are a number of good beaches along the whole coastline, both sandy and rocky giving great walks and hours of pleasure for the youngsters. The Arbroath cliff top trail offers superb scenery, unique wildlife and the chance to see porpoise and dolphins in the North Sea.

Distances:

Nearest village Monikie, approx 2 miles for village shop.

Monikie Country Park is visible from the cottage and offers beautiful grounds, walks, play areas, fishing and water sports, approx 1 mile.

Dundee the nearest city approx 14 miles offers services; facilities and amenities expected of a city of its size and is a city rich in cultural heritage.
