Luxury Bed & Breakfast in Beautiful 200 year old Village house with pool

Updated: 25-Oct-2016
Bed & Breakfast in Laurens, Pezenas, Herault, Languedoc-Roussillon, France - Ancient wine producing village in the heart of Languedoc

This 200-year-old wine grower’s property has been tastefully converted into a beautiful private home, which retains all the character and charm of French country house living. The British owners are offering luxury bed and breakfast within their house. Accommodation comprises of one large double bedroom with en-suite shower, and a three single bed bedroom with garden and pool view balcony.

Both bedrooms have original beams and features. A single bed or cot can be added to either room if required. Bedroom with three single beds, can be easily made into a double. Pool towels are provided. The bathroom has original beams and is very tastefully decorated and has a large walk in tiled power shower with dressing area and separate enclosed toilet within the bathroom. The bathroom has original beams and is very tastefully decorated. A welcome tray is provided for guests on arrival.

This is a large privately owned village house with pool and garden, the owners are offering luxury bed and breakfast accommodation within their house in two double bedrooms Situated in the centre of the village the house has a large secluded garden with in-ground swimming pool and dinning terraces which guests are encouraged to use. Full luxurious continental breakfast can be served on the terrace. There is also secure parking for two cars. Wine and the town of Beziers: Languedoc-Roussllion is the largest wine producing region in the world, a wine lovers paradise, vineyards as far as the eye can see. Most villages have their own 'cave co-operative’ where wine is made and sold. There are also many privately owned vineyards where superb quality Faugers wine is now being produced. The owners will welcome your visits and offer tasting of their full range of wines. The town of Beziers (14 miles) offers something for everyone. A beautiful tree lined boulevard with endless cafes hosts a huge flower market on Fridays. There are many cultural events throughout the summer including the famous ‘Feria’ where the whole town is taken over for four days of bullfighting, street markets, musicians and traditional carnival. Painting breaks: The area is ideal for that relaxing painting break with breathtaking views and architecture within easy reach. The resident artist owner Derek Corke (please contact us for his website address) is on hand to offer advise on location, materials, composition and painting techniques.

Children & Sport: Best beaches in South of France For the children and sun-worshipers the amazing sandy beaches of the Mediterranean lie just 18 miles to the South. All water sports are catered for and you will find a large range of excellent cafes and seafood restaurants. Vias Plage situated in between Cap d'Agde and Valras Plage, this small bay has some of the warmest water, sheltered beaches, golden sands and accessibility of all the beaches in the South of France, this beach to us tops them all. Vias Plage is situated just below Cap d'Agde on the coast. To get there, come off the A9 at junction 34 and follow the RN312 to Vias and then follow the signs to Vias plage head right into the heart of the beach bars and shops and then turn right. If you keep following the track you will come to another car park that invariably has spaces. We prefer this area of Vias plage.

About the Owner

We are very easy going and really enjoy guests coming to our house and enjoy all that the South of France has to offer. We have been doing B&B for many years now and have made friends of many our guests. Lots have come down here to house hunt and end up buying here in the village! Whether you come for three days or a few weeks we like to provide a home away from home.

We really enjoyed our stay with you.  Your home is beautiful and we found we could really relax.  You both made us welcome and were interesting and easy to talk to.  Eating breakfast each day in your garden was a perfect start to each day and your friendliness and inclusion of us in the village art exhibition added to our enjoyment..

A fabulous get-a-way

  • 5 of 5

Now that Ryanair flies to Beziers Cap d'Agde, this place is a wonderful getaway for a weekend or longer. The house, once two typical French village houses, is on the edge of the village and surrounded by the vineyards of Fauger. It is now converted into one spacious, stylish home by the artist owners. The rooms are large, airy and very clean with cotton sheets and fluffy towels. A superb breakfast on the terrace with everything you could want - cereals, fresh bread & croissants, fresh fruit, yogurts and of course, fresh coffee. Anything else and you only have to ask. The garden and secluded pool are a delight - have your lunch here or a late night dip to the sound of cicadas. A great place to chill and relax or wander further afield to local vineyards or neighbouring towns. Fabulous seafood, beaches and the wonderful Canal du Midi is a short drive away. Derek & Wendy could not be more welcoming or helpful. All in all, mervilleux!

Shhh ....keep it a secret or they'll all want to go.

a warm welcome

The property allowed us the peace we wanted but more importantly the owners were lovely, gentle, thoughtful people. We felt at home not intruders and rested well.

We had the most wonderful holiday here. The hosts are superb being both generous and informed. An old traditional house that has been sympathetically restored combined with amazing breakfasts under an old olive tree was incredible. The pool set in a beautiful garden was very special. The art in the house mostly by host Derek is outstanding.

So much to do in the area - you will never regret booking this!

Absolutely Fantastic

  • 5 of 5

We can only echo what other people have said about this place and about Wendy & Derek. This is absolute luxury B&B with hosts who are lovely and very much include you in whatever they are doing as a family or with their friends. Unfortunately, or fortunately whichever way you look at it, we've had to cut short our stay. Derek & Wendy very kindly booked an appointment at their Vets for our dog Tia to have her tapeworm treatment, and thank god we went to their Vets, as rather than just giving Tia the worming tablet they did a thorough examination and found out that she has a tumour on her spleen. I only write this as again Wendy & Derek couldn't have been more helpful in letting us use their pc and printer etc so that we could hastily bring forward our return to the UK, and their concern for Tia and us was very genuine. What the next few days holds I have no idea, but it would be lovely to think that the 3 of us could return next year to spend more time with Wendy, Derek and the gorgeous Bella at their fantastic home.

Wonderful and the dogs loved it too!

  • 5 of 5

(I thought as there are so many reviews from families I would write one more aimed at holidaying with your dog/s as well as the kids!)

This is the first holiday where I have ventured to take both the kids and the dogs on holiday and what a success thanks to the hospitality and kindness of Wendy and Derek. Their house and swimming pool is beautiful, the area is picture book South of France and we just had the best time. The dogs loved their vineyard walks with Bella, Wendy and Derek's Italian Spinone and being fussed by every dog loving French person of which there are a lot. France is not at all like England and dogs are welcomed to sit outside whilst you eat at all restaurants and bars but if you want to take them onto the beaches you need to visit late September onwards until about May. At Wendy and Derek's the dogs have free access to the house and garden and they are happy to shut the gates for you so they can't access the road ( if your dog is very small or an escape artist the gate isn't completely safe). There is a storage room by the pool where you have a large fridge/freezer and space to keep any dry dog food or treats if you don't want them in your room. Dog walking is just a question of walking out of the door into the nearby vineyards. Several of Wendy and Derek's friends have dogs and live locally and we greatly enjoyed our evenings where we all went out. It would have been impossible for anyone to have been more welcoming. There is a local vet (5km) where you can get your dogs checked and treated for tapeworm before the trip home (approx. 35euros each).

All I can say is a massive thank you to Wendy and Derek for a great holiday and I fully recommend staying with them if you want a lovely time in the South of France sans or avec les chiens.

Fantastic family holiday

  • 5 of 5

This was our first family holiday in France with our 7 year old twins and also our first B&B experience. Our consistent comment in the morning was " another day in paradise" because that is where we thought we were. Everything was just lovely - the house, pool, village, people, surrounding areas, wide range of activities within an hours drive ( and many very close by) were all fantastic. Our hosts, Wendy & Derek, we're so welcoming and gave us lots of suggestions on places to go and things to do which were very helpful. We also met some of their local friends who were so warm and inclusive, which we greatly appreciated. We would highly recommend a stay here and hope to visit again ourselves one day. Thank you Wendy & Derek and hope you are all well in lovely Laurens. Warm regards. Chris, Aoife, Hugh & Darcy.

From the Owner

We chose our property in Laurens because Laurens is a wine producing village situated in-between the mountains and the Mediterranean, in some of the most beautiful scenery in France.

Activity and Interests

Car: necessary

Special interest holidays:

The house nestles in the wine making village of Laurens with its medieval chateau, narrow winding streets, and views to the hills.

All essential amenities are a few minutes walk away. While excellent restaurants and supermarket can be found in nearby Magalas (5 mins drive).

The village is surrounded by the vineyards of Fauger AOC, and is within easy reach of France’s most beautiful beaches (15mins drive).

The medieval towns of Pezenas, Beziers, Carcassonne, Narbonne, Agde and Sete (superb seafood), and the magical Canal du Midi can easily be reached by car.

Access by air is provided by the airports of Beziers, Montpellier, Carcasson and Perpignan. Laurens is 22km North of Beziers on route D909 direction Bedarieux.

Other Activities: canoeing, kayaking, horse riding, karting, paint balling

Beaches are a 20min drive from the house. The coast of Languedoc-Roussillon is over 200km of wide open natural spaces.. lagoon landscapes give way to vast stretches of fine sand. Ancient fishing ports with secular traditions and welcoming holiday resorts line this preserved length of coastline. Fabulous in all seasons.
