About The Owner

We first found the Creuse when we came here on holiday 10 years ago, we decided to take early retirement and moved here from UK permanently just over 8 years ago, since then we have been busy renovating ' La Petite Maison and La Belle Maison' and generally enjoying ourselves. This is a lovely area to live in, peaceful, safe and very beautiful, a great place to unwind and boost your batteries. (Its a little bit like the land that time forgot!). If you love the great outdoors, mountains, lakes, lots of very fresh air, no traffic .... then you be be delighted with this lovely area of France.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2005

Why The Owner chose Le Compas

We bought La Belle Maison in 2005 as our holiday home, it was just perfect for a little hide away holiday, now we are permanently we have moved to our new house just a few miles away. We love the area, the way of life, the people, the tranquillity and magic of the Creuse has us spellbound!

The route to us is very easy, main roads are free of traffic once you leave the very empty motorways, there is always a great feeling of leaving the world behind as you start to move up into the foothills of the Massif Central.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is very cosy, it has everything you need for a get away break, with the bonus of having a delightful Auberge just a few minutes walk away and the local town with all amenities you need for your holidays just 4k away.

We also have a second property [FR7061] adjacent, which means if you are thinking of holidaying with friends or parents its ideal, your own space but a minute away from each other. What could be more perfect!

Nice and comfy but stairs steep and low beams in bedroom(s).

  • 4 of 5

The welcome was very warm and the starter pack from Lyn nice to receive. The cottage is very comfortable but the stairs are tricky as they are quite steep. The low beams in the bedroom and on the mezzanine, which are stained the same dark colour as the ceilings, make it very easy to bang ones head, especially getting into or out of bed or walking onto the mezzanine area. We overcame this by hanging brightly coloured napkins from them at the likely point of contact. Whilst the lights over the kitchen units were quite bright there is no main light in the kitchen/dining area which, of an evening can be quite dim.

The internet connection was excellent, there are a selection of english tv channels, not just the BBC world news as is often the case, and the garden was a pleasure to sit in after a days walking.

It is quite a good area for walkers and there were plenty of maps and walking literature available together with local tourist material. The supermarket is about ten minutes away in the car. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for restaurants as the only one nearby appeared to have one set menu each day and the nearby town's one and only restaurant consisted of a pizza parlour.

Directions to the property provided by Lyn were spot on. The weather, despite the forecast the week before our arrival, was brilliant making for an excellent week.

If you like to be away from the hustle and bustle of life, walking or cycling and sitting each evening with your feet up and a drink and a book at hand, this is the place to do it.

Fabulous cottage in beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

This is a really comfy and cozy cottage in a really beautiful part of the Limouzin.

It is the best equipped holiday cottage we have ever stayed in, you can tell that this was once the host's home. Examples of how well equipped it is are endless, but for example, bathroom cabinets, UK plug Adaptor, DVD selection, quality reclining garden chairs, wood stove. The bed is worth particular note, being very very comfortable. The stairs are steep, but with deep treads so okay with care.

The area is beautiful, and particularly great for cycling. There is a good supermarket just 5km away.

Lynn is attentive to your needs if anything needs sorting or you need any advice.

It is very quiet in this part of France, so ideal for that complete getaway, but not so great if you want lots of villages with lots of bars, cafes, shops & life.

The cottage has its own back patio area, which on a hot day stays shady and that bit cooler. The front garden of lawn & borders is shared with another of Lynn's cottages, and has nice shade, and is well kept.

Wed definitely recommend this cottage and the host, but the area was just a bit too quiet for us.

Cute and tidy cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage has everything you need. Allthough it's a small cottage, for the 2 of us it was perfect. Lynn and Richard really succeeded in combining comfort and space. Bathroom and kitchen are nice and clean. Lynn is very kind and helpfull and always ready to help in case needed.

We've been to the Creuse before and we already were in love with it. Nature is beautifull and it's nice and quiet. There's a Intermarche in Auzances were you can find all things you need.

Lovely Comfortable Cosy Cottage

  • 4 of 5

We had a week stay at Belle Maison in May 2016 and everything in the property was spot on and as described.

Plenty of kitchen equipment and the very thoughtful welcome gifts from Lynn and Peter of bread, butter, eggs, milk and wine made arrival so much easier to settle and start our spring break.

Although the weather was cold and wet during our week, the property was warm and cosy, Lynn and Peter having left more than plenty of logs to use in the fantastic easy to organise log burner, which made the lounge a delight in the chillier evenings that week.

We slept brilliantly every night as the bed and pillows were perfectly clean and comfortable.

Lynn and Peter left details of how to work all electric items, along with their telephone number. They let us know they were there if we needed anything.

You'll have use of the washing machine, dishwasher, two garden areas not massive but big enough to sit and chill out, English TV if you really must watch TV rather than enjoying the lovely views and listening to the countryside.

The cottage is extremely well equipped and very comfortable. The setting is lovely too.

Lynn and Peter were a delight to meet and so generous with their time and knowledge of the area.

We've rented many properties in France over the years and have no hesitation in recommending this gite.

Perfect cottage!

  • 5 of 5

A huge thank you to Lynn and Peter for rescuing our holiday. It got off to a bad start after the Gite we booked originally turned out to be sub standard and not what we expected. Searching for somewhere lovely to reduce our holiday we contacted Lynn, we have stayed before in La Petite Maison so we knew Lynn had high standards. Luckily the cottage was available! The cottage is perfect, everything we needed, comfortable, in a lovely location. We had a great time and Lynn and Peter were really helpful. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
