About Margaret Makepeace

My name is Margaret Makepeace and along with my daughter-in-law Trish Andrews, take bookings for our two holiday lets. The Coach House Westerdale is a tranquil cottage in spectacular scenery in Nth Yorks. While 21 Neville Street is a town house in the heart of Durham city.

Should you wish to book either of our properties you can be sure of a very warm welcome.

Margaret Makepeace purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Margaret Makepeace chose Yorkshire Moors and Coast

The reason for buying the Coach House was that it was in the grounds of Westerdale Hall which is a building of great interest. Also the remoteness of the village means it is a tranquil retreat with spectacular views.

What makes this cottage unique

While staying at Westerdale many attractive villages and historic market towns are easily reached by car, such as Hutton-le-Hole with its Ryedale museum and Helmsley with its castle and wonderful walled garden. It is also just a 30 min. drive from the coastal towns of Whitby, Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay. There are numerous attractions for all the family.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The very best place we have ever stayed! We regularly rent self catering accommodation in North Yorkshire and across the UK. We have never come across somewhere we liked more. The home is comfortable, well equipped and lovely. A haven of peace and quiet in a perfect setting. Our dogs loved the garden and we loved being able to relax and watch them play. Thank-you for an enjoyable stay.

Such a beautiful place. The cottage is absolutely gorgeous and all the little "extra touches" were much appreciated. This has been the perfect place for our break away with 3 dogs. It was such a pleasure to come back each evening to this beautiful place after a full day out. We look forward to returning one day.

Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your wonderful cottage. It's beautiful, well equipped and has a fantastic garden! We had a great holiday, enjoying the log fire, peace and quiet, while the teenagers were kept happy with the wifi and Paul (aged 9) and Fergus entertained each other in the garden. All the thoughtful "little extras" were really appreciated and made our stay very comfortable. Thank you Trish for your warm and friendly welcome! We hope to return next year.

A beautiful location and such a lovely cottage. Lots of lovely touches too, we have had a very special time. Dogs very much enjoyed the area walking ect...Would love to come again. Our purpose was to run the Saltburn Marathon - which we did happily without mishap and a third place for one of our party! The cottage was a refuge after, to rest and recuperate and launch walks, visits to pubs, the sea and much besides. Thank you for making us so welcome. We will recommend the cottage to friends and family.

Thanks for the welcome treats, they added to our stay. This is a lovely part of the country, we walked, explored and would love to return. The beautiful Coach house gardens and setting make for the perfect chill and we left relaxed and positive!

Hideaway heaven

  • 4 of 5

What a lovely cottage, so comfortable and a prizewinning welcome basket, fridge provisions and flowers; an owner who really cares about her guests. Nothing was too much trouble to make our stay perfect.

A very quiet and secluded location which was ideal for a good rest but within reach of interesting places and beaches for dog runs.

Other dog owners be aware, only 3 sides of the beautiful garden are secure, our Jack Russell was able to jump down the bank into the lane, naughty boy!

We had a lovely stay, thank you.

Lovely cottage in a peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is ideal for anyone looking for a traditional cottage in a really quiet and scenic location. Fabulous welcome pack on arrival with cake n treats and both the cottage and gardens are lovely. Easy travelling distance to the coast and great walks on the doorstep. Both us and the dogs loved it, we didnt even bother going out in the evenings, just stoked the wood burner up and relaxed.

Excellent Weekend Break

  • 5 of 5

Excellent, quiet location, ideal for counrty walks and fresh air.

Cottage fully equipt although we prefered to eat out the kitchen had everything you needed.

Didn't use the log fire as the heating was fine but again the option was there with plenty of logs.

Room in the yard for both cars and massive garden for the dogs to run around.

The village as little in it but both the Lion a couple of miles away on the moors or the village pub in Castleton were excellent for both food and cost.

Fantastic few days at the Coachouse in Westerdale

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I and my parents had a wonderful time in Westerdale. The location is idyllic, quiet and very beautiful. The house itself is well equipped, spacious and cosy in the evenings with the log burner roaring. Trish was very helpful and we knew she was on hand should we have needed assistance. Margaret even made a lovely chocolate cake for my mother's 80th birthday which was so thoughtful. Overall, a great holiday and I will recommend to anyone. Thank you.
