About the Owner

This gorgeous stone cottage is owned by Gordon, Brenda and Janice who hail from Glasgow. They are totally in love with the cottage, Rovinj and Croatia in general! The 3 of them visit regularly but are very willing to share this lovely house with you and hope that you enjoy it to. They have mastered the basics of the Croatian language and understand and appreciate the interesting culture here.

Inside the cottage is a mine of information on the places they have been to, seen, dined at and shopped at. Please feel free to post any questions to me, Lis, a friend of theirs who looks after the cottage. I live very close by and also know the area extremely well.

A great stone cottage with lots of character and lovely terrace outside. Bedrooms are spacious and nicely decorated with comfy beds! The main bedroom is gorgeous. So much to do and see from this location in and around Istria as well as very good local restaurants close by. Coming back again next year. Martin 2014 UK

Lis, thank you so much for looking after us at this divine house in Matohanci. We had a wonderful stay here and really enjoyed exploring the area as well as chilling out in the house and on the terrace. Great location for going to Rovinj, Porec and the islands. Definitely recommended. S Peters July 2014

This place gets our vote as a gorgeous traditional stone house with everything you need for a simple holiday in Croatia. We adored Rovinj and spent lots of time at the Limski Canal, the ice creams are fantastic. The restaurants locally were great and the people very friendly. We enjoyed the home produce that was brought to us several times…..tomatoes were so tasty and the eggs so fresh that one or two of them still warm. We are probably coming back next year. Thanks Peter and Cheryl Mattison, Humberside. September 2014

Excellent holiday let property in a lovely locatio

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent 7 night stay in this fantastic holiday let. To be honest I was a little doubtful if the property could be as great as it appeared in the description and the previous reviews, especially for such a reasonable price, but to be honest it exceeded our expectations. The property has been renovated to a high standard, yet retains much of its original charm in terms of the external stone finish and the wooden exposed ceiling joists throughout the building. Every convenience is available to make your stay comfortable enough, incl. dishwasher/tv/DVDs with plenty of movies, A/c in main living and dining ar a and in main bedroom. Property was spotless on our arrival and linen towels etc. provided. The other concern I had was that as this was an inland let in a quiet area, that we would feel isolated and away from all the action. Whilst this is true to a certain extent, it actually turned out to b a virtue and as long as you have a car you are within 10 minutes of Rovinj and striking distance of th whole Istrian peninsula. The caretaker was fab to deal with. Overall a great holiday in a fabulous property.

Idyllic location, stunning property

  • 5 of 5

Stayed with my family in this beautifully furnished and well equipped cottage. Location was just right, walking distance to basic provisions at the local garage and 2 great restaurants . The Spaghetti restaurant was a particular favourite. Rovinj only 7 miles away with many activities and experiences in offer .

Property was perfect, beautifully restored with a stylish interior. Enjoy, we did!

We all had a fantastic time (as always, we love Croatia ) P.s if you have children, I would certainly recommend Istrilandia water park.

A piece of heaven on earth

  • 5 of 5

We saw this gem of a house on the internet for our summer break. It is a gorgeous place with lots of character and yet very comfy and cosy. It is set in a rural village so you feel very much part of this welcoming farming community. The house is not far from the major coastal town of Rovinj. There are lots of arts and craft shops plus ferries to many of the adjacent islands off its shore and ferries to Venice and Porec. It is a hub of activity daytime or night time for those that relish the buzz. We adored our home from home in Matohanci for its quiet retreat-like qualities and the house is equipped to a high standard. Being so near the tourist destination of Roving gave us the best of both worlds. Matohanci is a great base to visit many quaint, Italian style local villages and if you love history there are plenty places of interest to see. We can't wait for our next visit in 2015 to our little bit of heaven on earth!

Location

From the Owner

We instantly fell in love with the natural beauty of the Istrian coastline and the warmth and friendliness of the local people. The cottage is located in a quiet rural village but is a perfect base for exploring nearby villages, resorts and islands. We consider it to have the best of both worlds. It simply has a magic which makes you want to return!
