South Facing Gite With Private Pool

Updated: 19-Oct-2016
Farmhouse in Castelnau-de-Montmiral, Tarn, Quiet Rural Setting With Mostly Off Road Walk To The Village

A former winegrowers farmhouse La Croix du Roc has a rural setting just 1 km from the medieval village of Castelnau de Montmiral.

Forming a self contained wing of the property the one bedroom gite is the only gite on the property and with a swimming pool just a few steps from its entrance, is ideally suited to couples seeking peace and privacy.

From both the gite and the pool terraces there are lovely views across the surrounding countryside and of the evening sunset.

Perfect hideaway in beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

A lovely gite. Clean, well equipped and private despite the owners living on site. Jane and Tony are perfect hosts - discreet but always available if needed. The two seating areas are perfect too offering much needed shelter from the sun. The area around the gite is stunning - possibly the most beautiful part of France we have visited - lots of Bastide towns to see and views to the Pyrenees on your way to the local town of Gaillac. Castelnau is within walking distance and the bread in the local shop is very good. We would recommend it without hesitation!.

Owner's Response: We are delighted you enjoyed your time with us. When we were holidaying in France we found it difficult to find gites just for for couples, with a private pool and privacy, We are pleased you think we "we got it right when planning ours"

A little gem!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 4th stay at Le Croix du Roc and we never fail to enjoy it's charm, peace and quiet.

This gite has all you could wish for and is well equipped for a stay of any duration. It has a good internet connection and all the facilities you need to make your visit comfortable, enjoyable and memorable. Jane and Tony are the perfect hosts and very willing to share their local knowledge with you.

We are keen cyclists and Castelnau de Montmiral is a great base for exploring the Tarn, whether on or off road, as well as touring the local vineyards ;-)

We would recommend property '8160976' without any hesitation whatsoever and 'we will be back' before too long

Beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

Really lovely location, very close to the local village with everything you need and good local resturants. The farmhouse is situated close to lots of vineyards and surrounded by beauiful southern French countryside.

The gite itself is very cute, lots of space and two nice outdoor seating areas for alfresco dining! The pool is a good size considering it's only for two people - with stunning views. Overall a nice tranquil getaway, we really enjoyed our week there.

This Place Passed our expectations :-)

  • 5 of 5

The description of the accommodation, facilities and the area is spot on. Jane and Tony are very friendly, welcoming and helpful, ready to answer any of our questions making sure that everything was to our liking but without intruding on our holiday. Both of the local village restaurants are lovely, the natives are equally helpful and welcoming! We did not have a disappointing meal or bottle of wine(all local) during our stay. We explored local markets, towns, ancient castles all within an easy drive of La Croix du Roc.

The views of the surrounding countryside are beautiful the area is breath-taking.

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

Toulouse( Blagnac ) is the nearest airport which is an approximately fifty minute drive. A rail service is also available from Toulouse to the nearby town of Gaillac.

Carcassonne and Rodez airports are both approximately one and three quarter hours drive.

a car, although not absolutely essential is highly recommended.

Further Details:

Vineyards and sunflower fields dominate the rolling rural landscape and the quiet roads, country trails and the nearby Forest of Gresigne are ideal for walkers and cyclists. The vineyards form the vast Gaillac wine region where vines have been cultivated since Roman times and a visit to one or more of them for a ‘degustation’ is a very pleasant way of spending a little time.

A number of other hilltop medieval bastide villages are all within a short drive. Cordes sur Ceil is probably the best known, but Puycelci, Penne and Bruniquel are also well worth a visit. A twelve minute drive away, the nearby town of Gaillac provides a good choice of shops, bars and restaurants and the 10th century Abbaye St. Michel where there are regular concerts throughout the summer. Just a little further afield the city of Albi provides yet more choice as well as the magnificent gothic cathedral of Saint-Cecile and the Toulouse Lautrec museum.

Throughout the summer the different towns and villages have regular fetes and other events as well as traditional weekly markets.

Just over 1km from the property the lovely medieval bastide village of Castelnau de Montmiral has a pretty cobbled square with covered arcades where you will find a bar/bistro, restaurant, patisserie and pharmacy. There is a market day every Tuesday where you will find stalls selling fresh produce and local delicacies.

In the lower part of the village there is a village shop a self service petrol station and a small Pizza restaurant/take away.
