About John Roberts

25 years ago whilst holidaying in France we stumbled upon an old ruin, signed on the dotted line and three months later accompanied by our one month old baby daughter we returned to begin our new life. Our daughter was weaned to the sound of pick and shovel and now 12 ruins later she is, wow 25 years old and we are retired. Do we have any regrets, non whatsoever, would we return to live in England, probably not. Please note THIS PROPERTY IS LET FROM SUNDAY TO SUNDAY

John Roberts purchased this farmhouse in 2008

Why John Roberts chose Tarn-et-Garonne

We wanted peace and tranquility but without too much isolation. The ability to walk to a bar and boulangerie if desired, not more than 30 minutes from major shopping centre and within an hour of an International Airport.

What makes this farmhouse unique

We are minutes away from a lively bar/ restaurant and shop, yet surrounded by woods, valleys and fields.

Fabulous property in a stunning location, a truly great find.

We loved our stay at Castagne. The property is fantastic and beautifully presented. John and Sandra have thought of everything and were happy to offer help and advice re. attractions, supermarkets, restaurants etc. throughout our stay. The area where Castagne is located is stunning and whilst it was tempting to simply spend all out time enjoying the house, it's grounds and it's lovely pool we would have kicked ourselves had we not visited some of the many towns, villages (and vineyards) in the immediate area inc. Cordes and Saint Cirq Lapopie which are a little further away. Watching wild deer tentatively emerge from the woods and graze in the field below the infinity pool was a highlight we certainly were not expecting! We can't recommend this property highly enough and hope to return in the future.

A fabulous house to stay in whilst enjoying the beautiful South West of France.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Castagnes for two weeks while our children were on a summer course in nearby Beauville. The house is beautiful! It's clean and very easy to live in. The pool is the perfect temperature and John and a Sandra are very accommodating hosts. The location is good for visiting the area. The towns of Montaigu de Quercy and Laroque Timbaut are easy to get to and both have decent supermarkets. Beauville and Penne d'Agenais are close by too. Roquecor and Chateaux de l'Hoste are a few minutes in the car. Both good for meals out. Agen is about 30/40 minutes drive. Also worth a visit. The house is close to the D655 without being too close. It's a quiet and peaceful location. We went on several bike rides which was a good way of exploring the area and enjoying the beautiful countryside. Highly reccomended!!

Peace, privacy & beauty...not a easy combination - but easily achieved here !

"Castagne" affords a "pin drop quiet" environment that melts any stress you may have had before arriving. As far as practicalities: The interior is immaculate and very comfortable and remains cool on a hot day, a HD television with satellite is enough to occupy the teenage generation with wifi to hand. The kitchen is well equipped with very modern appliances, ample space and a homely atmosphere decorated with excellent taste.

Its location is spot on for travel to bastide towns, Agen and wider travel. A short drive, or a walk if you want, to Rocequor provides a small corner shop style supermarket and a cafe. A short drive into Montaigu de Quercy provides Bakery, supermarket, tabac etc and a picturesque view on the way (especially when the sunflowers are out).

There are many, many positives to "Castagne" and this includes John and Sandra who have a wealth of experience in the area and are a phone call away for any assistance. They are a very welcoming, hospitable and friendly couple. Thank you , John and Sandra

If you are looking for an assurance of peace, absolute privacy in a beautiful setting, Castagne is it !..simply fantastic. Memories of sunsets, stars and a good quality wine, bread from the bakery every day and - une noisette from the cafe on the way back...will make you want to stay. Highly recommended.

Perfect place to relax and unwind with family

  • 5 of 5

We were warmly greeted by Sandra and John and offered a welcome glass of rose wine to begin our perfect holiday. The farmhouse, which is clean, comfortable and tastefully furnished, has everything you need, and more! It was a delight to be able to call it home for two weeks. Our three teenage children enjoyed the space, and the wifi! The location is stunning, we especially enjoyed watching the sun rise from the roof terrace, walking across the fields to the beautiful village of Roquecor (40 minutes), relaxing by the pool, visiting some of the nearby bastides towns, playing table tennis in the barn, eating dinner on the terrace as the sun set, listening to the owls at night....we didn't want to leave! There was still so much more to see and do in the vicinity, we will definitely return here. La Castagne is an ideal, peaceful yet accessible, base to explore the area from, there's something for every age group. Perfect!
