This spacious apartment has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms plus a sitting room/study, and is set in a small apartment block in a quiet area in Tavira town centre. It has AIR CONDITIONING newly installed. Unlimited Internet access. Facing south, it is light and sunny with a 14 metre long balcony which has sun from early morning to late afternoon. The balcony is accessed from the lounge, kitchen, main bedroom and the study. It is ideally situated for those who don't want to hire a car, although there is plenty of free parking nearby. Less than a 5 minute walk into the town of Tavira through Bishops Square and down to the Roman Bridge and river front with it's cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. Very close to the local train station and famous Venezuela Bakery Cafe.

About iris

We are a British couple who have lived and worked in the Algarve for many years. Our experience of the rental business is vast. We have managed many properties for friends over the years, and continue to do so.

This new venture is an opportunity for us to share our knowledge of the local town of Tavira and surrounding areas that can be reached on foot or by using public transport.

Why iris chose Tavira region

In 2014 we decided to buy an apartment in Tavira town centre as more and more visitors wanted to explore the area without having to hire a car.

We were lucky enough to find this treasure of an apartment which offers plenty of space and sunshine. Situated in a small apartment block in a good residential area with green spaces is also a bonus.

We love the fact we can walk everywhere e.g. the mini supermarket is 1 min walk away, the bakery and cafe are across the road, and one of many local restaurants is just around the corner. Everything you need, set in a lovely residential area yet within walking distance of the town.You really feel part of the local community.

What makes this apartment unique

Our guests can easily walk into the centre of town and find historical places of interest along the way, or can pop across the road to a wonderful local cafe/bakery offering fresh bread daily, and a huge selection of cakes and snacks. A local supermarket is just around the corner too.

Plenty of parking in the local streets and you can catch the local train from Porta Nova station which takes you west into Faro or east to the Portuguese/Spanish border town of Vila Real Sta. Antonio where you can catch the ferry to Ayamonte, Spain.

Notes on accommodation: The apartment is spacious and recently refurbished with comfortable fixtures and fittings. Has AIR CONDITIONING newly installed. It is has plenty of natural light from the balcony doors. Being in Tavira town centre , you can enjoy the city views across to the historical centre and surrounding area. Outside: The apartment has a private (14 m) long Balcony which has the sun from early morning to late afternoon. Patio furniture and shade provided. Cleaning / Towels / Linen /: Bed linen supplied and changed every 7 days. 2 bath towels, 2 hand towels per person per week. Beach towels. Other: There is also a separate Sitting room/Study. 2 armchairs, Workstation, Book shelf. Patio doors to the Balcony. Safe Deposit box.

Fantastic Apartment

Our third stay in this apartment which is ideal for our family group, location is perfect for a short walk into Bishops square. The apartment is fully furnished with everything you might need and the addition of Air Conditioning to the bedrooms was very welcome this year, the welcome pack in the fridge of milk, wine, beer etc was ideal for our night time arrival, Iris and Bob are very helpful and welcoming and Chris ensures that the booking arrangements are sorted without any fuss, we will definetly return again next year.

Beautiful Apartment in Excellent Location

Lovely well equipped apartment with great balcony.The apartment was lovely and quiet.It was a lovely gesture to be greeted by Chris, Iris and Bob .The apt is only a short couple of minutes walk from Bishops Square and a few more to Tavira centre.We used the Venezuela Café for breakfast every morning! Was extremely hot when we were there the air con was a god send.Overall we had a great holiday and would return to this apt. Without hesitation.

A wonderful winter escape

It was reassuring to meet Bob and Iris on arrival and have them show us around their spacious apartment with the morning sunshine warming the long balcony on which we later ate our welcome pack baguette with a glass of the low alcohol wine, also generously provided by the hosts. The kitchen was well equipped which was great for us as we did prepare most meals during our near 5 week stay. It was frustrating that the sun dipped behind the roof line around 15.00 and then the further drop in temperature as the sun set around 17.00 took a bit of adjusting to - but it was a big improvement on January in Cumbria.

The location was ideal - overlooking the lovely Venezuela bakery/cafe with the train station just up the side road and a small supermarket along the busier road. It was also just a short walk to the town centre and plenty of restaurant options to try out but the best, Xico's, was in the next building!

We managed well enough without a car but hiring one is recommended if you want to see more of what the Eastern Algarve offers. We did hire bikes for 3 days and very much enjoyed our little journeys along the Ecovia and inland through the orange and almond groves. The municipal swimming pool was excellent and within easy walking distance.

This was our first winter escape and it surpassed our hopes and expectations. We soon relaxed and felt welcome everywhere we went. Who wouldn't enjoy sitting outside in the warm sunshine at this time of year, sipping excellent coffee and sampling the variety of cakes on offer at the Venezuela right opposite 'our' apartment?

We would highly recommend Bob and Iris's property to prospective guests reading this review. A special thanks to Chris for her exceptional logistical support and generous sharing of local knowledge.

Superb

Bob & Iris. We love Tavira, and our most recent visit was greatly enhanced by our stay in your conveniently situated, very comfortable apartment. You put so much thought into everything. Coast/Beach:

The Island of Tavira and beach is reached by boat or water taxi. It is less than a 10 minute walk to the other side of the river where you can board the boat that takes you to the beautiful island with its 11kms of soft golden sands, which has a variety of cafes and restaurants. You can walk from the island, along the beach to the Terra Estrela beach and then on to Barril beach, Santa Luzia. If you are feeling fit, you can visit Santa Luzia and then walk back to Tavira by road.

Travel:

Faro Airport is about 40 minutes drive. As the apartment is so close to town a car is not essential. You can always hire a taxi from the taxi rank in Bishops Square. There is much to see in the surrounding areas and if you choose to hire a car there is ample free parking near the apartment.

Distances:

The town of Tavira is a few minutes walk. The Porta Nova train station is only 2 minutes walk in the other direction, passing alongside the Venezuala Bakery Cafe. You can travel by train to Vila Real St Antonio and catch the ferry boat across to Spain for the day. The train also travels to Faro where you can change to the fast train into Lisbon and north. There are plenty of villages nearby to explore and it is fun to use the local buses or taxis.

Further Details:

The apartment is ideally situated with the Town being only a few minutes walk . Here you will find the different bridges crossing the river which divides the town into 2 parts. On both sides of the river the cobbled streets have a large selection of bars and cafes, local shops, churches and supermarkets. There are also plenty of Banks and the local Tourist Information office which is by the Islamic Museum.
