Surrounded by beautiful countryside, overlooking the nearby Montagne Noires (Black Mountains) Kervihan is the perfect retreat, here you will soon find yourself unwinding and surrendering to the “French pace of life”.

Our house has been designed to help you relax and breathe a sigh of relief from the moment you arrive. From its seemingly secluded spot, you wouldn’t know you are only a 20 minute drive from some of the best beaches in Brittany, or a 40 minute drive from either Morlaix or Quimper; two of Brittany’s finest Medieval towns. Just 3 minutes from the house in a car or a 10-12 minute walk is the nearest village, Plonevez du Faou. This is an unspoilt genuine Bretagne village, where everyday Bretons go about their daily lives. With two boulangeries, a charcuterie, a florist, a pizzeria, a mini supermarket and the customary tabacs you will find all your day-to-day needs on hand in charming surroundings. With a medieval church positioned in the centre of the village, you will begin to have a taste of the many historic buildings this region has to offer.

The house enjoys a private position and has been designed with open plan living accommodation on the upper floor to take full advantage of the surrounding views. Kervihan has three en-suite bedrooms, two with King Size beds and the third has two singles which can be put together to form a Super-King Size Bed. Two of the en-suites have modern showers and the third has a claw foot Victorian Roll Top Bath for two in the fireplace (yes the fireplace – where else do you put the bath?). Additionally there is a sofa bed with a king size bed for sleeping another two in the lounge area.

A fully fitted, fully integrated kitchen has all modern conveniences (including a dishwasher) for preparing those French gourmet meals. The dining table seats up to ten people and the lounge/den area has seating for at least eight and has a woodburner for the cooler evenings. You will find a flat screen TV, DVD player and satellite dish for entertainment, although we feel you will be whiling away your evenings sitting outside enjoying the sunsets. The house has full WiFi accessed throughout the property for those that feel they need to stay connected during their stay. The raised deck on the south facing balcony outside the kitchen is a perfect spot for morning coffee whilst watching the sunrise, or alfresco meals. Outside, each en-suite bedroom has it's own private patio with a small table and chairs, so everyone has their own little space to hide away. It is fabulous to have the open-plan layout for living and dining when everyone wants to come together to share a meal or spend the evening together, but its also great to have your own space from time to time. Each private patio has a different aspect, so will enjoy sun at different times of the day.

A gas Barbecue is provided for cooking outside should you wish, along with sun loungers, and an outside dining table and chairs for those alfresco meals.

Beautifully restored

This property has been beautifully restored and makes for an extremely comfortable and inviting holiday stay. The upstairs living and dining area is a great space for families and the outside area perfect for breakfasts. Closest beach for families was less than 25 minutes drive, perfect for surfing and ice creams.

Very tasteful modern property

Stunningly renovated property in a very peaceful rural area, but still within close proximity of usual amenities. About 40 minutes drive to the fabulous beach at Morgat and the interesting Breton town of Quimper. A real treat.

Excellent property for relaxing holiday.

Lovely secluded property but still within walking distance of amentities. Loads to see in the immediate area including the 'chaos of the rocks' at Huelgoat and Chateau about 10 miles at at Treverez. Coast about 40 minutes to Crozon peninsula which has some wonderful beaches. Lacronan which is officially one of the prettiest villages in France is also about 40 minutes drive.

Fabulous hidden gem - lovely house.

The experience of the house was very positive, the location is just perfect. We took bikes with us which were really great as there is so much lovely countryside. The house is secluded and the way it has been restored is inspirational. The homely feel is also quite different from many other houses on the website, and that also made the stay very relaxing.

The fairly nearby canal linking Brest to Nante is a good ride and the beaches if you prefer a seaside break is pretty near and the bays are pretty quiet even in the height of summer.

Beautifully renovated gite in a peaceful location.

This is an amazing gite beautifully renovated, which is superbly equipped. The garden is large and we put up our own badminton court! The gite is pretty remote with 3 empty houses close by but beautifully peaceful. The upside down arrangement works well as the higher BBQ area with table and chairs gets the early evening sun and the bedrooms on the lower floor are kept cool. It is well located for visiting a variety of nice towns but the nearest beach is actually a 40minute drive away - worth the drive however, as it is superb.

Perfectly peaceful and charming

The house at Kervihan was a real gem, perfectly located for those who want peace and quiet. On the other hand, picturesque French towns, beaches, mountains and cliffs nearby (by car). So you have the best of both Breton worlds. The house is beautifully restored and has all modern conveniences needed. Very special is the open space on the first floor, which combines kitchen and living area. The house also has old features, such as the stable doors to the bathrooms. And a bath tub in the fire place. So cute! In one sentence... you feel at home as soon as you open the front door.

And Vanessa, the owner, is extremely friendly and helpful when you have any questions during your stay (via mail and texting).

PS Enjoy the crepes at l'Enclos in Pleyben... they are extremely good!!

Back in 2004 we decided to visit an old friend who was living in Brittany, when one day on a walk near to his home we saw a house that he said was his dream home; it was so architecturally interesting, being an old Masters House. He proclaimed how wonderful it would be to buy it, assuming this was simply a pipe dream! A few days later looking in the local Notaires window we couldn't believe our luck - Kervihan had just been put on the market that very day! Well it seemed like fate, we put in our offer, and the rest is history! Fast forward a few years of not knowing how we could afford to renovate the house, and getting caught back in the daily routines of life in the UK, we finally embarked on the loving restoration of our french home in 2012. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do?

The Armorique Regional Park, is an area of outstanding beauty and is only a 15 minute drive north. From here enjoy breathtaking views and amazing walks.

Coast/Beach:

Kervihan is only a 20 minute drive west to the Crozon Peninsular. This is one of the most beautiful parts of the Breton coastline and boasts some of the longest, widest stretches of golden sands. Head down to Le Pentrez Plage at St Nic to see one of the finest examples, and on most days you will see the many land yachts sailing up and down the long, flat sands.

Not just for sunny days do venture down on a wet and windy day, these beaches looks equally impressive no matter the weather.

Chateauneuf du Faou

Venture five minutes down the road in the car and you will find Chateuneuf du Faou, the nearest town; with two large supermarkets, banks, shops and restaurants for all your daily needs. You will also find charming pavement café’s, boulangeries and restaurants for eating out. Walk down the hill past one of Chateauneuf's two churches and you will find the Brest to Nantes Canal; a very impressive canal that, yes stretches from Brest in the west to Nantes in the east, passing through sleepy Chateauneuf en-route. Alongside the canal you will find a pizzeria and a creperie for a lunchtime or evening meal, before walking along the towpath in either direction for as many miles as you can manage. Look up from the lock by the bridge and you will see an impressive view of the commanding Chateau Treverez, the local medieval castle peering down to look over the meandering canal and its boats. Visits to the Chateau are possible on certain days of the week when it is open to the public.

Huelgoat

A little further afield about 15 minutes in the car, is the town of Huelgoat. A little more touristy than Cheateuneuf, yet still totally unspoilt this is a picturesque town situated on a lake with many shops and restaurants to explore. But the most interesting and unusual thing about Huelgoat is Le Chaos de Rochers, the Chaos of Rocks. This is a jumble of hundreds of large boulders below the dammed lake, into which the river vanishes. A 10m descent down ladders is required to see it again, running rapidly below a dark cave called the Devil's Grotto. Discover this along with other caves, rocks and pools, and a stretch of 10km of Forest waiting to be explored.

The light filled open plan living space is so magical, its unlike many traditional dark, dingy cottages in the area. On a warm day with the many windows and doors open there's a lovely breeze that wafts through the large space, keeping you cool and fresh. However, on a cooler evening light up the woodburner and cosy on down in the lounge/den area; with a lower ceiling height it feels really cosy and warm; a perfect place to spend the evenings. With each bedroom being ensuite everyone has their own bathroom, aswell as their own doors leading to a private patio. This makes the house ideal for either a family, or two or three couples sharing the house, as you all get a little bit of space to yourselves. But for socialising the open plan living space is an ideal place to all come together

  • Notes on accommodation: Kervihan has been lovingly restored to a very high standard of luxury accommodation. No attention to detail has been spared. Everything has been thought of to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We do not believe in furnishing our french home with charity shop hand-me-downs; instead all furniture is either new, carefully chosen antiques or hand made by our very own hands in some cases. We hope you enjoy using them as much as we did making and procuring them. The concept of our home is to provide accommodation for either families or friends sharing the house, who may wish to either spend time together in the open plan living areas, or occasionally retreat to their own room, and spend time on their own private patios. For alfresco meal times the raised deck/balcony is in a southerly position, so provides the perfect spot to take morning coffee and pastries, lunch or evening meals, all enjoyed in the sunshine with lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Outside: The house sits in land of approximately 2/3rd of an acre. Immediately surrounding the house are patios, and the raised deck/balcony area for alfresco dining, sitting in the sun, or reclining on the lounge chairs. The remaining land is slowly being landscaped into beautiful gardens. In the hamlet of Kervihan there are three houses and outbuildings, however Kervihan is the only house that is occupied, the rest have sat empty for many years, so you have no immediate neighbours to worry about. You really can play your music as loud as you like, if you wish to shatter the peace. There are lovely walks along the road that Kervihan sits, which may see traffic of about 3-4 cars a day. Just a few moments from the house are beautiful views of the Montagnes Noir. It's a great place to go for a bike ride too, so long as you don't mind the rolling hills! You could take them down to the Canal in nearby Chateauneuf for a flatter easier ride, of course! Utility Room: There is a Utility Room with a washing machine & tumble dryer, iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Bed Linens: We ask that you bring your own bed linen and towels please. We provide pillows and duvets for all beds in both winter and summer weights. We provide tea towels and bath mats. Other: Board games, DVD's, CD's and a large library of books are available for entertainment. Internet can be accessed through WiFi in every room.
