Luxury Barn Conversion in a peaceful rural location. Sleeps 6 (plus cot) in three bedrooms.

The 17th century barn is set in a courtyard with the owners farmhouse on a working dairy farm. It has its own patio with table and chairs, and a shared garden with a small lake. The barn was converted to give a light modern space but still retains the character and beams. The slate floored entrance hall leads to three oak floored bedrooms and the main bathroom. There is underfloor heating throughout powered by a ground source heat pump which also heats the water. From the hall stairs lead to the first floor and the large vaulted open plan kitchen, dining and living space. Off the kitchen is a utility room contain the washing machine & tumble drier. Large windows allow light to pour into the barn making it a very airy space. Doors from the living area lead to a small balcony where you can sit and watch the cows in the paddock, or the rabbits playing, and watch the sun set over Garway Hill.

A lovely property in a delightful setting

The barn is beautiful, comfortable and extremely well equipped.The surroundings are peaceful with a village and pub nearby. Plenty of walks, also the river Wye, castles and the towns of Ross and Monmouth.Friendly owners, excellent ice cream!Would love to visit again.

Maximum character with all mod cons.

fabulous holiday property, well appointed, clean and full of character but with every modern convenience inside and the local produce left for us was spot on. Lovely owners, very helpful but not intrusive. local pub within easy walking distance, with good food meant we didn't use the beautiful kitchen as often as we could have. Fantastic views from the property, lots of walking close by and plenty of interesting places and towns to visit. Would love to go back again.

Further Details:

The nearest pub, the Garway Moon Inn is 5 minutes walk from the barn. The Moon serves excellent food including a takeaway menu and a variety of local ales and ciders. At the far end of the village is St Michaels Church which has the remains of a circular knave built by the Knights Templar, and next door to it is a dovecote dating from the 1300's.

Garway Hill is a prominent local landmark rising to over 1200 feet. From the top of the Hill there is a view of seven counties in a 360-degree panorama. White mountain horses graze there most of the year and raise their foals amongst the bracken. Sheep roam freely. A pond near the summit provides a water supply for the animals which lasts all the year round, despite there being no visible source to keep it topped up.

The Bell at Skenfrith also does good food, and is only 2 miles away. The castle at Skenfrith is worth visiting and you may be able to pick out different parts of the village that appeared in an episode of Doctor Who.

The nearest shops are the Garage in the village of Broad Oak (1 mile), and the Post Office and Stores at St Weonards (1 mile).

The historic border town of Monmouth, the birthplace of Henry V, is in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty known as the Wye Valley and is the nearest town for banks and supermarkets. There is a Co-Op, Waitrose and a Marks & Spencer Food Hall as well as independent butchers, greengrocers, chemists and several coffee shops. The Savoy Theatre and Cinema has a good mix of live shows and films and is well worth a visit. Close by is the beautiful Royal Forest of Dean with miles of paths suitable for walking and cycling. Bicycles can be hired at www.pedalabikeaway.co.uk or deanforestcycles.co.uk.

The Cathedral City of Hereford, on the River Wye, is about 15 miles to the North and Ross-on-Wye 11 miles away. The Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park are within easy reach. Several companies offer canoeing on the River Wye including www.monmouthcanoe.co.uk.

  • Notes on accommodation: This is a Friday to Friday booking. No smoking in the house please. Outside: Alfresco dining can be enjoyed in the patio area which has a table and chairs and a view to the lake in the garden. The garden is shared and visitors can walk around the lake and see the resident ducks, moorhens and swans and if you are lucky the ghost koi & goldfish. Please be aware that the lake is deep in places so children should be supervised at all times. Utility Room: The utility room is just off the kitchen and has a sink, washing machine and condensing tumble dryer. Also more cupboard space for storage.
