Barn in Vire, Calvados, Normandy, France - Great location, relaxing & quiet, close to town & places of interest, Wifi, English TV

Our lovely home has been restored with a mix of original features and modern essentials. It's spacious open living area with grand staircase and high ceiling has oak beams, exposed a frames and stone walls. Inside features a traditional log burner, comfy sofa's, UK satellite television, a cosy reading area with leather sofas and book case with plenty of books, large dining table for everyone to sit around, plenty of board games & dvds. Our house is a beautiful, warm and relaxing place to stay at and its location is very quiet and peaceful, the surrounding countryside is great for walking and exploring. A peaceful, rural location yet close to the bustling town of Vire where there are many shops, bars and restaurants. We are within easy reach of many places of interest including Bayeaux Tapestry, Mont St Michel, Normandy landing beaches and the beautiful Brittany coastline with its long sandy beaches.

"perfect getaway"

Fantastic converted farm building, very roomy and comfortable. Surrounded by fields so very quiet and rural. Weather was chilly as expected at this time of year but accommodation was warm and large open fire made it very cosy.

WiFi is available along with Freeview TV.

Good location with easy access to local town and shops. Also not far from Normandy beaches with numerous places of interest to visit.

Notes on accommodation: We are happy to quote for any day arrival & departures, we do not have a set changeover day, we are also happy to take short stay breaks & long weekends. We offer a discount for two week bookings. Please email us and we will be happy to help. Outside: We have a pebbled driveway and parking area at the front of the property. We have a large lawned area to the right of the property, outside we have table and chairs and a barbecue. There is plenty of space for children to play, or to sit outside and relax. The back and side of the house is open fields and woods occasionally with sheep in the field behind. Our neighbours are friendly and quiet. Please note that we do not have a gate so the property is not secure for dogs to run loose. Utility Room: Fully equipped modern utility room adjoined to our kitchen with plenty of cupboard and worktop space, fridge freezer, microwave, iron & ironing board, washing machine, dishwasher, tumble dryer, linen basket, clothes horse, hoover & high chair. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and Linen are included. Property is cleaned before & after guests Other: Dining area has large table with 10 chairs

A fantastic place to spend a few days

We were a party of 4 adults and 4 children and 1 dog looking for somewhere nice to spend 4 nights away over the NY period. I came across the property and enquired about availability and have to say that Sarah was great to deal with from the very start.

On arrival the property far exceeded expectations (I don't think you get a sense of the large open space from the photos) and was immaculate. Sarah had even arranged for a Christmas tree to be up for the children which looked lovely.

The woodburner was great and really helps to set the mood in getting away from it all and relaxing. We particularly liked the open plan nature of the downstairs as it allowed us to always keep an eye on the children but never did we feel on top of each other or cramped. The kitchen and utility were well equipped with modern appliances and the dining table is big enough to sit all in the group which is a must. We did have some issues with the WiFi which Sarah attempted to rectify over the phone but we never did manage to connect. That said it was actually rather nice and in hindsight was never an issue.

The location was quiet as the property is nicely situated between 2 other properties and it is then just fields as far as the eye can see.

Vire itself is around a 30 minute walk and is large enough to have everything you need (there are 3 supermarkets within a 5 - 10 minute drive of the property) but small enough to retain its charm and character, having a number of bars and restaurants in the centre. It was also nicely lit for Christmas with a tree in its centre and the clock tower nicely illuminated. If you want to travel further afield you are also only an hours drive from Mont St Michel, Bayeux and the Normandy landing beaches.

I would whole heartedly recommend this to anyone wishing to find a great property in a quiet location but within easy reach of everything you need.

If it wasn't for the fact that our party size has grown we would certainly have enquired about staying here again for NYE 2016

Just had a few days at the property, a party of 10. 4 couples 2 singles what a beautiful house, absolutely spotlessly clean it felt like we were the first people to ever stay there it was so clean and new looking. Not too far from the town of Vire couldn't walk it but not long in a car, a lovely town, market day Friday, lots of shops and some nice restaurants. Outside area very nice and bbq, log fire excellent, although a big room the heat from the fire warms the whole room. Bedding and towels excellent, couldn't fault the property in any way we had a fab holiday there and just loved the staircase!!! I know the review sounds over the top but it was fabulous and I am not related in any way to owner.

It is approximately 95 kms from our house to Omaha Beach and the coast of the D-Day landings, by car it takes us 1 hour and 15 mins.

There is beautiful beaches along the Brittany coastline you can reach Granville in just under an hour approximately kms away, and St Malo is an hour and a half drive away approximately 115 kms.


Dinard Airport - 118 kms away approximately 1 hour and a half drive

Ferry Port at Ouistreham, Caen - 77 kms, approximately 1 hour drive


The nearest town is Vire which is a 5 minute drive and approximately 15-20 minutes walk.

Bayuex Tapestry is 62 kms approximately 1 hours drive

Aquavire Swimming Pool 5 mins drive

Ten Pin Bowling 5 mins drive

Nearest Zoo - Jurques - approximately half hours drive

Our nearest town is Vire where there are many lovely shops & restaurants, it is only a 15-20 minute walk, the nearest patissiere is in Vire. There are many fast food restaurants in Vire. The nearest banks and post office are also in Vire. There are several large supermarkets in Vire, the closet to our house is eLeClerc and Lidl which are less than 5 minutes away if driving.

A weekday arrival and departure day is preferable

A 30% ( non refundable ) deposit will be payable within two days of your booking being confirmed. Balance becomes due 6 weeks before arrival.

A damage deposit of £300 is required with the balance of your payment and will be returned within 14 days of the end of your holiday. All rubbish and recycling must be disposed off at the end of your stay, there is information on the waste points closest to our house in the welcome folder at our house. Failure to dispose of your rubbish and recycling will result in a £40.00 charge being taken from your damage deposit.

All details of directions, key arrangements, etc will be given to you when the balance is paid.

Changeover Day:
We are happy to take bookings for any arrival/departure days, please email us to check availability and we will be happy to help. Usually arrival time is 4 pm and departure 9 am, but we are flexible and happy to help with any other times you may require.

Notes on prices:
Our prices include linen and towels. We also supply firewood. A heating supplement may be charged during winter months.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
