About the Owner

My partner and I live in the north west of England. We enjoy Italy for its people, culture, food, wide diversity of scenery and the language. We have decided to retire full time out there but are not in a position to do so just yet. We saw this house and knew it was the one for us.

Exceptional, peaceful, perfect

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a week for a wedding, a get-together of old friends from different continents who travel a bit but rarely have the chance to meet anymore. Six of us in total plus two kids, aged one and three. We chose the house because it looked large, quiet, surrounded by open space, with a mix of sunny and shady spaces. The pool was also a draw given a mid-summer stay. The house over-delivered in all respects.

The bedrooms were clean and cool, and sufficiently sound-proofed that restless infants were never heard. Even the beds were unreasonable comfortable. The en suite bathroom was massive and the shared bathroom was great. The outdoor spaces were generous and relaxing, and the views over the hills and sunflower fields were beautiful. The kitchen had everything we needed and the owners went the extra mile, leaving cold prosecco in the fridge to ease us in. The wifi briefly didn't work but the owners fixed it within a day, and the satellite tv provided parenting relief when required. Morning, day and night, we probably spent as much time in the pristine pool as we did in the house, lounging on the kindly provided inflatables.

Ultimately we wanted somewhere special for what was a rare opportunity to reconnect with friends and this house exceeded expectations. A peaceful gem in a beautiful setting.

From the Owner

We bought this property for any number of reasons: it looks great, is close to the mountains and equally close to the seaside. The close-by town of Loro Piceno, which is within 15 mins walk, is delightful with everything one might need in terms of restaurants, small supermarkets, bakers, fresh pasta manufacturer, butcher etc. The views are stunning, the area is quiet with no passing traffic. It just 'ticked all the boxes' for us. The historic towns of Macerata and Fermo are also close for periodic fixes of culture; the opera in Macerata rivals that in Verona for example.

Activity and Interests

The property is located approx 40 mins from the closest beach Civitanova, other beaches such as Porto San Georgio and Conero are approx 50 mins to 1hr away. Le Marche is blessed with the wonderful Adriatic coast line, the beaches are clean (blue flag) and child friendly. You can hire sunbeds & umbrellas for the day, for approx €8 per person, or seek out the free beaches & take your own equipment. It is a must to have a fish lunch overlooking the sea while sampling some chilled verdicchio wine.

Ancona or Pescara airports from Stansted - RyanAir. 55 mins. Car hire available.

Rome and Bologna are both accessible 4 hrs and 2.45 hours respectively.

Ascoli Piceno, with an amazing piazza, like a small Piazza San Marco in Venice

Macerata, the region capital, with a fabulous open air opera season in July & August.

Tolentino pretty market town with a large market on Tuesdays.

Loretto, very beautiful, an amazing cathedral with second largest dome after St Mark's in The Vatican

Everywhere you go, you'll find something worth seeing but you won't be put off my the tourists as Le Marche is still an undiscovered gem - the real Italy!

Further Details:

Loro Piceno is well supplied with supermarkets, veg shops, butchers, post office, chemist, tobacconist, ATM machines (foreign cards can be used), bars, excellent restaurants, pizzerias, gelatin. Sagras and markets. There are several wineries including Villa Sofias own to sample the excellent local wine and buy from source. The property is located within 20 minutes to at least a dozen other towns or villages.

From the Owner

The Monte Sibilline national park is about 45 mins away providing outstanding walking, ski touring, mountain biking or just stunning views. The Adriatic palm-lined beaches are also 45 mins in the other direction. So with a lovely hill top town for local shops, this place has it all. Oh, and did I mention the pool which faces south so gets the sun all day.
