The Judge's House has a 4 star gold rating from Visit England. You will find an elegant, spacious, well equipped and comfortable house offering high quality accommodation - delivering excellent value for money.

The house is in a great location - a few minutes walk away from fun activities for the children - the blue flag beach, an award-winning play area in Pannett Park, the mini-fairground and scary Dracula experience, the indoor swimming pool and the fossils on the seashore and in Whitby museum.

For the grown ups, a short stroll takes you to the harbour and historic east side with its quaint cobbled streets, where the 199 steps take you up to Whitby Abbey and the most fantastic cliff top views.

For all the family, the North York Moors steam train is a great day out. Hire cycles from the end of the road and enjoy an easy ride along the coast to Robin Hoods Bay and beyond.

On the ground floor there is:-

- a large bay-windowed lounge with sofas and arm chairs that seat eight adults comfortably around a large wooden Victorian-style fireplace with coal effect gas fire (fire-guard provided) and a large TV (with freeview) and DVD.

- a dining room with a large square oak table seating 8 and a gorgeous Victorian side board.

- a new, fully equipped kitchen with granite worktops, a built in gas hob, electric fan oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and drying area.

Generous supplies of crockery, cutlery, glasses, pans, kitchen implements and equipment provided.

- a small conservatory with seating that overlooks the garden

- a neat, sunny sheltered walled garden with seating and well planted with shrubs including roses, honeysuckle, hebes and viburnum, Weber barbeque available

- a downstairs cloakroom with feature seaside wallpaper.

On the first floor you will find:-

- a large and elegant master double bedroom with antique furniture and a built-in wardrobe.

- a comfortable double en suite (wc, sink and shower) bedroom with brass bed head and built in storage cupboards.

- spacious family bathroom with a bath (with shower attachment), sink, wc and a separate shower.

Going up the stairs, past the dramatic feature wall, the second floor has three spacious bedrooms:

- a twin with two 3ft single beds or a super king double bed in large room with built in wardrobe and antique furnishings

- two light and well-proportioned single rooms.

- a fully equipped shower room with wc.

High quality facilities throughout: all the single beds are 3’ wide, comfortable for adults or children, and all the showers are 900mm radius (larger than average). All bedroom curtains are of blackout quality so early morning light will not disturb your sleep.

Bed linen, towels (hand and bath), a choice of pillows (feather and hypoallergenic), a hairdryer in every bedroom and good wifi connection are all provided free of charge. Beach towels and picnic knapsacks (with integral cool bags) are provided.

Children are well catered for with a travel cot (bring your own cot linen) and a high chair provided. A range of games are available and there is an oak chest in the twin bedroom which has a wide range of dressing up costumes including a fairy princess, mini pirate, witch and Count Dracula!

The house has full gas central heating and a pressurised hot water system that delivers good (and uninterrupted) shower/tap pressure throughout the house. There is no extra charge for heating or hot water.

The house is in a cul de sac with residents-only parking on a first come basis. Loading and unloading in front of the house is usually easy to do. For parking, scratch cards are provided for one car in the residents-only area. In addition, there is a large long stay car park within four minutes walk. A parking permit for this car park is provided as part of the house rental from 1 March to 31 October (it is free November to February). Further permits for periods of up to a week can be purchased from the tourist information office in Whitby. The very convenient location of this property very close to the centre of Whitby means that guests do not need to either have (or use) a car during their stay.

Bikes can be stored in the walled back garden.

Pets are not allowed in the property - sorry, but this does mean it is suitable for allergy sufferers.

Bring buckets and spades for a classic British seaside holiday, with plenty of other activities and attractions available in easy walking distance.

Special interest holidays:

North York Moors National Park, Heartbeat country & the Cleveland Way coastal path are all on your doorstep. Robin Hoods Bay, with its steep main street down to a large shore, is just down the coast, around 7 miles cycle along the converted railway line cycle/footpath that starts in the town (cycle hire available at the end of the street). If you bring your own bikes, these can be stored in the walled back garden.

2 minutes walk to nearest pub, bakery, convenience store, 2 newsagents & restaurants. The seafront, Captain Cook’s statue & famous whalebone arch is a 5 minute walk, with the beach below. In the other direction, a 5 minute stroll takes you to the attractive harbour & across the bridge to the historic east side of the town (where Dracula came ashore in the original novel by Bram Stoker). If you are up for the challenge, take the 199 steps up to Whitby Abbey & the English Heritage visitor centre in Cholmley House and enjoy the amazing views of the Jurassic coast & town.

Pannett Park with its award-winning play area, the town’s art gallery & excellent museum are a few minutes walk away, as is the town’s leisure centre w/ its two indoor swimming pools (full size & children’s), playing courts & a gym.

The railway & bus stations are about seven minutes walk, & the North Yorkshire Moors railway regularly runs steam trains between Whitby & Pickering along the very scenic route by the river & then through the moors. There are multiple stops en route, enabling some lovely walks between stations to be planned without needing to use the car.

Brilliant house, wonderfully positioned, well-equipped and pleasant decor

Really lovely stay. Suited us all for a three generation reunion. Lots of lovely places to sit and read, comfortable bedrooms and plenty of bathrooms. We loved the garden which was sunny in the evening and the cosy conservatory. Really well placed for the shops and cafes, the harbour and beaches and a short walk to enjoy glorious sunsets. Well-equipped kitchen and good instructions for appliances etc. We hope to be back.

A really clean spacious tasteful place. 3 bathrooms. Plus a downstairs loo. Big kitchen.

This house really does accommodate 8 people very comfortably. It's all been done out nicely. Tasteful bits of old furniture and nicely decorated. Three new modern luxury bathrooms. All the rooms with Victorian proportions. Nice big dining table that we could all sit round.

And an outside space at the back which is just a back yard but has lots of potted plants in it so feels very cared for. Great to have two parking places in the nearby West Cliff car park.

Deposit is non-refundable.
Arrival time is from 4pm, keys to the property are in a key safe by the front door. The code for the safe is changed regularly and will be emailed to the guest The day before their stay starts. Information about arrival, finding the property, local facilities etc are given in the mobile data that the guest is invited to view on booking with further information available 30 days before their stay. The address is 10 Well Close Terrace, Whitby, YO21 3AR.
Guests must behave responsibly while staying, respect the tranquil setting and not cause any nuisance to the neighbours or damage to the property or its contents. Any guests that do not conform to these expectations will be asked to leave the property immediately and will be liable for the costs of any damage caused. Guests must not remove any contents from the property either temporarily or permanently except for items provided specifically for temporary use outside the house eg beach towels, picnic sets.
Guests must leave the property promptly at the end of the stay by 11am to enable cleaning before the next let and must leave the property in a clean and tidy state. Keys and parking permit must be left at the property on departure.
Neither pets nor smoking are permitted at the property.
The damage deposit is refunded automatically by Owners Direct 7 days after the end of the let, provided there has been no damage to the property or contents.

Changeover Day:
Change over day is Friday in high season, or any day outside of high season.

Notes on prices:
Gas, electricity, linen and towels included. Scratch cards for one car to park in residents only parking area on street (on first come basis) and two parking permits for a nearby (4mins walk) car park provided.

Where a minimum stay of 3 nights is noted, you can book for three nights over a weekend at the higher nightly rate quoted or four nights (minimum) during the week at the lower nightly rate.
