About the property

Cottage in Cullen, Grampian, Scotland - Beautiful country cottage with quick access to local beaches

Bleachfield Cottage was built as an extended cottage to the main Mill House in 1800 and fully renovated in 2008. It has beautiful original cottage features like Sash windows and wooden panels. The deep windowsills give the rooms an extra cosy feel. It has central heating and a wood-burner. The cottage lies in a valley surrounded by barley fields and forest. A five minute drive brings you to the next village and beach.

About Maren McAllister

When we first saw Bleachfield House and Cottage it was love at first sight. Coming both from country locations this area amazed even us. We love the peace and solitude about it.

Having travelled the world in recent years quiet a bit, it is always a joy to come back to our home.

We have deer and wild birds on our doorstep and to know that we have several beaches so close to us is just great. We have a Mini Schnauzer and love animals so we are happy for people bringing their dogs and we also give the opportunity to care for them if guests like to go on day trips.

Maren McAllister purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Maren McAllister chose Scottish Highlands & Islands

It's in the country side but also close to the local beaches and shops. We like the community and the peace we find living here.

What makes this cottage unique

It has so much character and neighbors always tell us stories about our house and how it was used as a mill and bleaching field when it was built. You can feel the history especially when you are out in the garden.

Fantastic cottage in a great location.

  • 5 of 5

Stayed in this lovely cottage for a couple of days and had a great time . The cottage was immaculate and cosy. Very comfortable and well maintained. The nearby villages and walks make this an ideal deal location if you want to sight see. Or you could just relax by the fire. We will definitely be back .

Faultless!

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I booked a very last minute weekend stay in January. The cottage was beautifully traditional, immaculate, clean, cosy, in tranquil surroundings and it had everything you could ever need to make your stay special. It was so well equipped and the little touches supplied by Maren - like the doggie drawer of blankets & goodies - made it feel like you were stepping into a home rather than a rented cottage. It's perfectly situated for touring the coast or inland, and the bonus for us - doggie friendly. I could not fault our stay nor the kindness and care Maren showed us. Well worth a visit!

stunning

  • 5 of 5

A perfect location and a perfect property, did not want or need for anything. Spent three nights with my husband and 3 year old son, accommodation is ideal for a little one it's very spacious and clean, our son loved sleeping in the children's bed.

Spotted deer in the neighbouring fields and having sheep for neighbours was great 😀

There is lots to see and do locally including amazing beaches and really good walks.

Short drive to Fochabers lovely garden centre with outdoor play facilities. There was so much to do we didn't do all the things we had planned........perfect excuse to go back.........

Thank you Maren you were great, on hand if we needed anything, but as you had catered for literally every need we were fine.

We would definitely recommend your cottage to friends and family and looking forward to booking again to see the area in a different season.

Thank you.

A perfect hideaway

  • 5 of 5

This is a perfect & spacious cottage for 2 people (or 1 person if you fancy some quiet time). I stayed there over New Year 2015. The owners are a delight and live next door but keep to themselves unless you need anything.

The cottage has a super well equipped kitchen (utensils, plus all the basics - salt, suger, tea, coffee), bathroom (towels, shampoo) and lounge (cds, dvds, logs for the wood burner). It's cosy and simple.

The beach is within 5 mins drive and there are some lovely walks nearby (although it's also lovely to just keep the fire going and stay in!), It's remote enough to be silent most of the day & night but 5 mins from Cullen if you need some human contact and close enough to Elgin for a larger supermarket or some action at the sports centre (good lanes pool).

I'd totally recommend Bleachfield ... even with the risk that it gets so booked up that I can't get the dates I want when I go back there (me, me,me) - which will definitely happen before the year's out.
