Fantastic holiday
We had a fantastico holiday in this house. Cosy and very quiet area. Nice pool and lovely terrace. Very well equipped kitchen. We did a lot rides on our bikes in the area, went to the markets in the area and enjoyed the lokal food and wines.

A charming rural gite. Comfortable and we'll equipped.
Brilliant cottage. Communication was swift and very helpful with the owner. It was easy to find via satnav. It has a wonderful peaceful setting amongst shady, tree filled gardens. Loved the pool area. A real suntrap. Pool is small but clean and well tended and we didn't miss a bigger one. Cottage is cool and well equipped. Comfortable beds and lovely clean linen. We were grateful for washing up liquid, loo roll and other items that are often missing in self catering properties. Location is a little off the beaten track but still close enough to the big tourist attractions. We enjoyed visits to Lascaux, Castelnaud, Limeuil, jardins de marquessac, gouffre de proumeyssac. Sunday market at St Cyprien was fab but heaving...go early. We canoed with Aquafun from Limeuil to le bassin nautique at tremolat. Nice meals at le chat qui peche at mauzac and the pizzeria at tremolat. All in all a good bet!

Great house with a nice garden and pool
The house was great, the garden has enough shadow. We enjoyed the pool. We missed airconditioning because it was very hot.

Absolutely perfect!
Our two weeks in this wonderful house were perfect. Eight of us (aged 13 - 76) stayed and had plenty of room inside and outside of the house. Although the kitchen was small and the oven not suited to cooking for all eight of us (we managed it though), all other rooms were spacious; the pool was small yet took 4 lilos and enabled us to play ball; and the large garden (with the wonderful (ornamental) sheep) was great for (small) bird watching and for playing games. The house was incredibly well equipped with EVERYTHING we needed - even a bag of picnic items for when we visited local night markets. We were visited by John and Sonya, who look after the house for the owners. They are a wonderful couple, kind, helpful and full of information. The house is certainly a rural getaway. Directions to it were given in advance of our arrival. It is important that you look out for La Metairie Hotel, look out for the municipal bins and turn down the lane immediately next to them. The house is literally in the middle of nowhere and for everywhere you want to visit you need a car. The area is full of beautiful little villages that are well worth driving through and occasionally stopping at. Local attractions include kayaking down the dordogne, cycling and visiting vineyards. I recommend this house 100%.

Well furnished and comfortable house
Very well equipped kitchen though small. Nice outdoor space with large table and umbrella. Good to have indoor dining room and comfortable living room too. Ceiling fans in main house bedrooms were good. Lovely bathrooms. Bedroom 4 (with ensuite) is not accessed from the main house which we had not realised. Fortunately our kids are older so not a problem. Sonya and Jon who look after the property were helpful.

One Irish/one English-born South African couple. United by their shared love for adventure, they have a particular fondness for the picturesque French countryside. As devoted homeowners, they revel in the tranquility of country living, with a keen appreciation for gourmet cuisine and fine wine. Their perfect days are spent in quietude, immersed in the pages of a good book.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this hamlet and its friendly locals on a European getaway, so decided to invest in our own French-based cottage. Mauzac et Grand Castang is a peaceful and verdant municipality located in the Dordogne. Here, you can discover the Saint-Roch and Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul churches or take a stroll along the banks of the Dordogne.

What makes this property unique

This enchanting region in the Dordogne is a perfect retreat from the fast pace of urban living, offering a haven for history enthusiasts with its plethora of Bastide towns. Outdoor lovers will be delighted by the opportunities to explore the area on foot or by bike, embracing the natural beauty that abounds. For those inclined towards water sports, Tremolat, located just four kilometers away, offers activities such as water-skiing and canoeing.

Gastronomy aficionados will find their bliss dining at the Michelin-starred restaurant Le Vieux Logis in Tremolat, or by making use of the fully equipped kitchen for those who prefer crafting their own gourmet meals. The region is also conveniently situated near notable attractions such as Sarlat, Les Eyzies (home to the museum of prehistoric man), and Le Bugue, making it an ideal base for exploring the rich cultural and historical tapestry of the area.
