About Alan Davies

We came to Menorca in 1999 and fell in love with the island, and purchased Villa Paula early in 2000. She was the first villa built by Santi Grau and is named after his new daughter at the time. We visited for 3 months of the year in the first few years, spending May, September and October here, then as the grandchildren got older we have been out during July and August. We have also stayed in February, March and April and experienced the island in all weathers.

Alan Davies purchased this villa in 2000

Why Alan Davies chose Calan Porter

We love the farmland outlook, the quiet location - even in high season the villa is quiet. It's only 10 minutes from the airport, and everyone in the village is kind and friendly.

The local supermarkets deliver free of charge so there are very few down sides to where we are and many advantages.

The main reason for buying here was that we are not overlooked. Although we are surrounded by other villas, the walls and planting make it a very secluded, without being too remote. In our opinion, a perfect compromise.

What makes this villa unique

The location of the villa means that we have all the benefits of a lively resort on our doorstep without the hustle and bustle of the village. The stroll back to the villa after a meal in the evening goes some way to compensating for the excesses of the evening.

As we are on the edge of the village, the view of the stars at night is amazing. Turn the lights off, lay on a sunbed and look up. You are in a different world - literally.

We love walking and have done a lot of the coast following the Cami de Cavells from the village you can go to Calas Coves and on to Es Cantells one way and to Son Bou in the other direction.

Also every year we like to find something different, so this year we visited a vineyard, with a free tour and tasting and a lovely lunch afterwards.

Notes on accommodation: We have tried to cater for most situations, but if you have a special request we will do our best to help. A cot and high chair are in the villa, and bed guards and bath boards are available free on request. Outside: Outside we have a 7x3 metre pool surrounded by an established garden and plenty of terraced area, with 6 sunbeds and a shaded outside dining area fully equipped for 6. There are other seating areas, in both full sun or shade. For the energetic, there is a built in BBQ and cooking utensils in the kitchen. We usually have several inflatables, dolphins, crocodiles or whatever the season's fancy is. The property is fully fenced and gated so the whole area is private and safe. Over the rustic wall is extensive farm land. You may see cows, sheep, goats and a donkey wandering through the fields at various times. We have also seen Egyptian Vultures, Kites, Buzzards and Bee Eaters. There is a book on birds and a pair of binoculars in the villa. The Villa and Pool are lit for quiet (or rowdy) evenings and midnight swims. There is a washing line at the back. Utility Room: There is a washing machine and sink outside - typically Spanish. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bedding and towels, including beach towels, are supplied, so that should save on your baggage allowance. The washing machine can be used at any time.

Barry and Lyn who look after the villa just live over the garden wall anything you need to know or want their the people to ask. Barry cleans the pool but you have to be up early to see him. If you want a laid back peaceful holiday then this is the place for you. we couldnt get our youngest grandson out of the pool spent hours playing in it. Many thanks for a great holiday see you next year

Villa Paula is just perfect. Quiet, well equipt, spotlessly clean, smashing pool, pretty garden....exactly as described. Add in Barry and Lynn who look after villa Paula and it's very lucky guests and the perfect package is achieved! We both loved Menorca, it was our first visit and definitely will not be our last - just delightful. The town of Cala en Porter is just a short walk away and has everything we needed. Great villa, fab location, georgeous beaches and countryside......what's not to like!!

Lovely villa in a wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from a relaxing week at this lovely spacious villa. The location was perfect...close enough to walk into town but backing onto farmland we felt like we were in the country. Highlights included watching the red kites soaring over the villa every day, the humingbird moths in the garden, and the nightly gecko hunt around the walls of the villa. I was a bit worried about the walk down to the beach with my 75yr old mum but it wasn't as bad as I'd feared...we took the steps down but returned via the road. The local supermarkets were great...they all offer free delivery for your shopping...useful if you don't plan on hiring a car! The villa itself was spotless, has everything you could possible need and is very well maintained. The pool is a good size and was very clean thanks to Barry who lives next door and does the pool maintenance. The resort itself was very laid-back and relaxing...the perfect getaway. I'd recommend the villa and we hope to return in the future. The owners were quick to respond to emails which made the booking process simple and the welcome pack they supplied was a nice touch. Oh and the beds were the most comfortable I've ever had on holdiay!...Highly recommend the villa and the location...wonderful! *****

Wow! We have been to Menorca for our family holidays for the last 10 years and have finally discovered Villa Paula which is absolutely gorgeous. Being only a short 10 minute taxi drive from the airport we start our holiday straight away...no stuffy coach transfers with irritable children! The rooms are all bright and airy with plenty of towels available for your stay. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The outdoor terraces are beautiful with plenty of seating areas and enough sunbeds and parasols for everyone. The pool is always clean and well maintained as is the lovely garden. A huge bonus for us is the villa is completely enclosed so we have peace of mind that our little ones are are safe and secure. The BBQ area is just across from the kitchen making it easy to prepare meals, although it's only a short stroll to the town centre where there are lots of eating and drinking places.

We love Villa Paula as it suits our family perfectly, so relaxed with everything you need for a really great holiday.

Cala en Porter

The Cala en Porter beach is about 20 minute walk from the villa, or a 5 minute drive. The beach is one of the best on the island and normally has lifeguard cover, gently sloping sand and is sheltered from all but a southerly wind. There are bars and restaurants as well as ice cream vendors and beach shops. There is also free WiFi. A watersports centre has now moved to Cala en Porter beach and has a variety of activities.

The villa is about a 10 minute drive from the airport. Taxi cost currently is approximately 20 Euros. Although we are near the airport we are nowhere near the flight path so we rarely hear the planes.

Mahon is 15 minute drive away and Ciutadella, the opposite end of the island, is about 45 minutes drive. Busses are available for a reasonable cost and go from the village.

Further Details:

The village has many shops, 3 supermarkets, banks, cash machines, car hire, restaurants, bars and children's play areas. Some of the local bars supply entertainment and some have karaoke evenings (sorry!). Everyone speaks good English but they will help if you want to practise your Spanish.
