secluded wooden lodge. 2 bedrooms.

About the property

E17783

These pine log cabins enjoy a secluded south facing position on Snittlegarth Farm, with views across open country to Binsey Fell. A haven for wildlife, as well as the farm animals. Snittlegarth is home to roe deer, badgers, foxes, pheasants and a variety of songbirds, with red squirrels coming up to the lodges to feed. The original Snittlegarth Estate was owned by Lord Gillford and extended to 12,000 acres. It is now farmed on a smaller scale and has the benefit of footpaths from the doorstep on to Binsey Fell and beyond. Snittlegarth lies in a truly tranquil valley close to Ireby and Uldale on the northern fringe of the National Park and provides an idyllic retreat for those who wish to escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life.

A lovely oasis of peace and tranquility

  • 4 of 5

The lodge was clean, well equipped and comfortable. The best bit though was the tranquil, secluded and relaxing environment with a rich array of birds and sheep. Highly recommended if you wish to get away from it all and enjoy nature.

Really nice lodge and location

  • 5 of 5

The lodges are very well maintained and equiped. Bedding is really clean and of very good quality; They are secluded in a lovely farm estate and all you can hear is birds, chickens, sheep and cows noises! The owner made us feel welcome by allowing us to visit the farm and walk freely on the estate. He also came to check that all was okay on our second day;

To summarise : we would definetely recommend those lodges and will be back!

Superb cottage and wonderful farm animals

  • 4 of 5

It was beautiful wooden cottage , spotlesslessly clean and immaculate. The bedding was luxurious. We thoroughly enjoyed the over all stay .

The farm sheeps and animals were so facsicnating . There were farm chicken and hens , a pea cock and red squirrels which we and our toddler enjoyed so much .

The very slight thing was that it was a bit far from the main town areas and there were hardly any internet signals but again that's a nice point if you want to enjoy an away from routine chores holiday ..

The host was very cooperative and helping . Showed us around on arrival and asked if anything needed whenever we saw him.

Peaceful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The lodge was clean, warm and cosy and the beds were comfortable. It was wonderful seeing the gorgeous red squirrels on the feeders as well as all the different species of birds. Rod made us very welcome and popped by a couple of times to check all was ok, which it certainly was. The view from the lodge of the wooded area and sheep paddocks was so tranquil and it was wonderful to wake up to the bleating of the new born lambs and to watch them skipping about in the fields. We were visited daily by a small flock of hens with their handsome cockerel as well as a pair of pheasants. We were also visited by the super cute black lab Martha! The Lake District is a beautiful place to visit with breathtaking scenery and wonderful walks. We would definitely recommend Snittlegarth Lodges 😊

Beautiful quiet location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with our two grandchildren and it was an excellent choice. A beautiful quiet spot with an outlook to sheep in fields. Red squirrels guaranteed at the feeders morning and evening. Lots of birds too. A lovely walk from the doorstep up to Binsey Hill and near enough to Keswick if supplies needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would definitely return.

A cozy retreat

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a lovely break at Snittlegarth. The owner is friendly and welcoming. The lodge is basic but very comfortable. The week we were there saw high winds and rain but the lodge was warm and comfortable. Our dog loved being able to run around and watch the sheep (safely behind a double fence so no worries about him getting to them). The whole family enjoyed Red Squirrel spotting and watching the abundance of birds. We had days out at many of the lakes and there were plenty of local attractions available. I would recommend this place if you are after peace and quiet. No internet or phone signal at the lodge, but the children walked up the hill to get a signal when they got desperate! For once I was organised and took tea towels, dish cloth, washing up liquid etc, only to find it was all there already! We will definitely visit again.
