About the property

Cottage In Market Overton, Rutland, England - Ideal For Holiday Base

Welcome to The Old Post Office, situated at a central position within the village. As its name suggests the property was once the village shop and post office but has since been converted and furnished to a high standard. This spacious property consists of 2 bedrooms (one double and one with bunk beds for two – minimum age 5), a living room, kitchen diner and shower room and benefits from central heating and double glazing. It has its own front door and secure parking at rear for one vehicle, where there is also a patio for enjoying the sunshine! Amenities nearby consist of a well stocked community shop and a pub, The Black Bull, which serves good food. Also within the village is a bowls club, cricket club, children’s play area, doctor’s surgery, C of E Church, a Free Church and a country cafe. Market Overton is a lively conservation village of approximately 220 houses situated 6 miles from Oakham and 13 miles from Melton Mowbray. It is set within rural Rutland the landscape of which lends itself to walking, cycling and generally exploring Middle England. A bus service runs in both directions every two hours and the A1 (4 miles away) provides an excellent link both north and south. Towns such as Uppingham, Stamford, Peterborough and Leicester are also all easily accessible. Nearby Rutland Water is famous for its water sports and bird watching activities and has a cycle track/footpath around its perimeter.

About Lynn Lane

.

Lynn Lane purchased this cottage in 1988

Why Lynn Lane chose East Midlands

My husband and I first bought this property in 1988 when it was the village shop and Post Office. We successfully ran it as that until retirement in 2010 after which time we converted it to residential use, whilst still remaining in our own home adjoining The Old Post Office.

What makes this cottage unique

The property occupies a central point within the village being close to local amenities – ie the replacement community run village shop, pub, church, etc., and yet is only a few hundred metres to open countryside with brilliant views.

One of the best!

Beautifully converted from a sub Post Office. Now perfectly arranged as a two-bedroom cottage, all on one floor, with a high quality, fully-equipped kitchen. Secluded patio at the back catches the afternoon and evening sunshine. Handy village shop next door. Pretty village and lovely countryside, with lots to see and do.

  • 5 of 5

Owners Lynn and Alan very friendly and helpful. The cottage is set in beautiful countryside, gorgeous stone houses.

The Black Bull pub next door serves good food and allows dogs inside, and the little shop sells just about everything you need.

Thoroughly enjoyable weekend, would highly recommend : )

Warm Welcome ..........Charming Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Warmly welcomed by owner Lynn who showed us around the cottage, It was delightful, lovely and clean, all mod cons and more. Very spacious and comfy. We were gifted with a welcoming bottle of wine and some local handmade chocolates. The village is beautiful and charming. There is a local community shop, its volunteer staff are very helpful and a pub where good food is available in an hospitable atmosphere, friendly staff here too. The cottage is all on one level with walk in shower so ideal for people with mobility issues. Secure car parking if needed. Would definitely go here again. First time using HomeAway but will use this company again. Very satisfied, Lovely holiday. Thank you Lynn and Alan

Comfortable spot for a short break

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect for my short stay to attend a course nearby on the outskirts of Leicester. Lynn was very helpful with the arrangements and the cottage is very well set up with everything you need. I like to cook for myself when away & the kitchen was full of useful equipment.

The welcome basket of fruit, milk & local chocolates was very welcome & the bed was comfortable. I had a walk round the village on arrival and it was lovely but due to visiting in January and the attendance times for the course I wasn't able to explore very much in the local area, so I would like to come back at some point and do so. Thanks again.
