Perfect spot on Ligurian coast
About the Owner
The Farmhouse is a part of my life and I have spent many happy years in this wonderful home.
I love nature and animals and this is reflected in the location of the house - peaceful but not isolated.
As i no longer live full time in Santa Margherita I would be delighted if others could find the enjoyment that I have experienced.

Perfect spot on Ligurian coast
We were blessed with wonderful weather for our 2 week stay at the farmhouse. The house was perfect for two adults and 3 teenage kids, in fact we had room to spare! The boys had many thrilling games of table tennis and we all loved the pool which was immaculately maintained as was the garden with abundant fragrant jasmine and lemon. We walked to the beautiful village of San Rocco and visited lovely Camogli most days for coffee and a swim. The house is perfectly located for trips to the coastline and to other towns or cities nearby such as Genova and Rapallo. Friendly locals -the boys were invited to play evening football games in the village by the local kids. Great local food selection - especially freshly baked breads and pizza. San Fruttuso is only a boat trip away (or long walk)! Picturesque! We were sad to leave and would love to return someday.
Fantastic location - relaxing stay
Immediately made to feel very welcome after a long drive - property beautiful and especially the gardens with lots of places to sit in the sun or the shade. Was all even better than looked in the photos. Lovely pool. Ideal for groups with older children joining us for part of the time. Short walk into San Lorenzo village with a couple of great places to eat and a small (somewhat hidden) shop next to the bar. Good bus services from the village and 20 mins walk down hill to Santa Margherita (fair bit longer back up in the heat!). Marked walking trails from the village - e.g to San Fruttoso or Camogli. Our dog also loved it and friendly vet in Rapallo sorted out pet passport. Very relaxing but also plenty to do. Hope to be back.
Fantastic house with wonderful terraces & pool
Olive Grove Farmhouse is the perfect house for a holiday on the Italian riviera! We were a group of 9 plus baby, and we couldn't have wished for a better accomodation for our week in Liguria. The pictures don't do the house justice, we were absolutely stunned by it's beauty upon arrival.
It's spacious enough to offer 9 adults comfort and privacy, with it's 3 bathrooms and large bedrooms. The annex was perfect for the couple that brought their baby. The house lends itself well for warm summer days and nights: there are various sitting areas around the house to choose from for dinner / lunch. There's a wonderful outdoor grill. The kitchen is fully equiped. There's a clean large pool (beautifully lit at night!). The whole atmosphere is romantic, every aspect of the garden is well thought of.
Reg. Location, we particularly liked the fact that even though Santa Margherita is only 9 min away by car, you can also walk out the door for a coffee/dinner/small errand in San Lorenzo itself.
Late night swims, longlasting bbq dinners, pingpong contests, sundowners by the pool: we loved our stay in San Lorenzo and the Olive Grove Farmhouse has been a significant part of the fun. Thank you Carol and Paolo! We hope to come back sometime.
Spacious family home in excellent location
We had a wonderful stay in this reasonably priced, charming home in beautiful surroundings. Would definitely recommend to a group of family/friends but note they need good mobility, as lots of steps, everywhere.
Stunning views, spaces to relax at many levels and easy opportunities to head off in different directions, by bus or walking, to swim in the sea, take the ferry or boat tours or simply explore and eat in the many little villages, including San Lorenzo itself. Local buses are fairly frequent (only 1.80 Euro for 100 minutes travel).
Farmhouse owner (Carol) gave helpful responses to questions before staying and thoughtful touches – prosecco on ice and basic, tea, coffee, milk, for when we arrived!
Our party of 8 adults used all bedrooms and facilities, particularly the clean and sparkling pool and poolside loungers and table tennis. A highlight was an evening barbecue, dining al fresco amid the intoxicating scent of jasmine and fresh lemons to garnish the dish.
WiFi Internet access is reliable, moderate speed and usable for email, surfing, Google Street-view, etc but not TV. Had no need of broadcast TV, so not tried but parents coming equipped with DVDs for kids should note that there is a video but no DVD player. Kitchen is adequate (we cooked a few full dinners) if idiosyncratic and bathrooms in main house sufficient for shared use (only cottage bathroom is en-suite).
Beds were clean with comfortable firm mattresses. Good supply of towels and useful towelling robes and a hairdrier, for regular swimmers. Almost too many cups and glasses (note latter are fine delicate glass and not dishwasher proof) but a little lacking in mugs for those who prefer long drinks.
Our Volvo estate took up one parking space but was space for another similar size car or possibly, two smaller ones. Can be a little tricky to manoeuvre in turning space to return along access road. (A taxi from Santa Margherita wouldn’t come right to the house because of concerns about turning!). Longer distance transport also surprisingly good with trains from nearby Santa Margherita to Genoa, Milano and Nice!
Local ristorante and trattoria were friendly and very good. Walking back at night, the road and house grounds are safe and well lit.
Tiny but surprisingly well-stocked local shop was a daily destination - friendly shopkeeper has a little English and some Dutch. Supermarkets were easy to find in Santa - ‘Gulliver’ on via Dogali has free parking.
Wonderful, spacious house with great pool area
We had a lovely 14-night stay at the Olive Grow Farmhouse in San Lorenzo in July 2015. We were a party of two families (four children aged 9-13) and there was enough space for all of us.
We went from Milan Linate Airport directly to the house by car and it was easy to find from the direction we got (aprox 2-2.30 hours).
The owner Carol greeted us kindly with Prosecco and gave us a tour of the house.
The house and the cottage were well planned and of good size. Clean and well kept. We spent a lot of time by the pool as it was very hot during our stay. We even had a pool party one night!
The cleaning of the house after one week was done properly and we got instant help with cleaning the pool when needed.
You find the house situated close to both Santa Margherita and Rapallo where you can find good food shopping facilities. We recommend Basko, where you easily can park on the roof and Carrefour close to the train station, both of them in Rapallo. In Santa Margherita you can shop at Gulliver.
There’s a bar and a pizzeria in San Lorenzo and also a small “Alimentari” if you need the basics such as bread, milk and pasta.
We recommend the “Trattoria degli Amici” in San Lorenzo where we had a lovely dinner with specialties from Liguria and “Trattoria Da Paladini” on your way towards Camogli, where you can find a gluten free menu. We suggest you book in advance as both the restaurants seem to be very popular.
If you like to visit Portofino there are boat trips from both Rapallo and Santa Margherita. We continued with the boat to San Fruttoso which is a pretty beach with a few restaurants and a monastery but unfortunately it was overcrowded. Another beach we found was in Zoagli (to the east of Rapallo) where there’s a parking garage close by and a pretty little square.
If you’re interested in walking trails we suggest you start off in San Rocco. You find trails of different difficulties. Prepare yourself for stunning views!
There were only a few minor things we could have wished for in the house and that was proper wine glasses that could be washed in the dishwasher and some more chef’s knives and chopping-boards as we cooked a lot of meals.
We hope that you’ll enjoy the house and the Liguria Riviera as much as we did!

“The Farmhouse was my family home for many years. The hamlet of San Lorenzo is very friendly gives a respite from the bustle of Santa Margherita.”
Activity and Interests
It takes ten minutes by car or bus to the beaches in Santa Margherita. There are a variety of private beaches and the majority are pebbly although a few do have sand. All beaches have their own coffee shop where snacks can be bought. The beaches are well looked after and some offer play furniture for children - small swimming pool for babies, safe bouncing equipment and a children's club with supervisor.
Genoa Airport is 44 kilometers from Santa Margherita and takes about 40 minutes by car. Although it is possible to arrive at the Villa with public transport a car hire is recommended. Milan airport is 213 kilometers from Santa Margherita and takes about 3 hours. The Port of Genoa is 40 km and 40 minutes away from Santa Margherita.
The Farmhouse is a seven minute walk to the hamlet of San Lorenzo della Costa where there is village shop, post office, caffe. It is ten minutes by car or bus to Santa Margherita and Rapallo. Camogli is 15 minutes away by car. Portofino is 20 mins away by car or half an hour by bus. The Cinque Terre is half an hour away (38 km.)by car but easier by train. There is also a ferry service from Santa Margherita to the Cinque terre.
Santa Margherita is a small buzzing seaside town full of restaurants, boutiques, antique shops and many small local food shops selling home made local produce - fresh pesto is recommended. There are two well equipped supermarkets in the centre and an interesting local market held every Friday morning which sells fruit, vegetables, clothes, shoes, swimming costumes and much more. The Portofino Nature Reserve has great walking trails and is ten minutes by car from the Villa. There are many banks in Santa Margherita. The tiny hamlet of San Rocco is my best kept secret with its wonderful church, exceptional bakery shop which also sells divine stuffed vegetables, focaccia bread, cheese focaccia plus fresh fruit tarts. All home-made. There is also a breathtaking walk above the sea. Worth a visit.
