"Briance" is an 18th century traditional stone farmhouse on the edge of a pretty hilltop village with wonderful views over the Dordogne river valley. It has been beautifully renovated. Briance has lovely gardens and a patio with loungers, including a fantastic wisteria. There is a covered outside eating area for outside dining on all occasions. There are four ensuite bedrooms, three twin and one double as well as an extra double next to the family bathroom. There is Wifi and satellite TV alongside a well-equipped kitchen and large comfortable lounge.

Alex and Christine are both professional artists and use our house in Astaillac regularly for painting trips and also to teach both painting and sculpture. We both exhibit our work regularly in the UK.

From the Owner

We traveled all over both France and Italy looking for the ideal property that had plenty of picturesque surrounding country side. This area is just beautiful and the views from the house were what sold it to us. It is quite a busy tourist area with lots going on but the village itself is quite quiet with only a few dozen cars going through it a day. Despite being small there is a friendly community atmosphere and it is very peaceful and rural.

Special interest holidays:

We are only a few minutes from the Dordogne river and there are a number of Canoe hire companies within a few kilometers of the property. This stretch of the Dordogne is particularly spectacular for canoeing.

This property is also used to host painting and sculpture holidays in the Spring and Autumn. This property is not suitable for a beach holiday the sea is 300km away. There are however a number of lakeside and riverside beaches used for swimming in the local area.


"Brive, valle de la Dordogne" is the closest airport with flights from Stansted London City Airports and Paris, there is also a car hire office there. This is about 40 minutes drive from the property. The next nearest Airport is Limoges which is about 1 hr 50 minutes from the property. With flights from Bristol, Southampton, Stansted, East Midlands, Leeds Bradford and Liverpool. Trains to Brive are about 40 minutes from the property. If driving from Calais allow about 7 hours plus stops.


We are 4km from Beaulieu sur Dordogne. The Medieval Abbey Town of Beaulieu has 3 hotels, 6 restaurants 4 bars a nightclub in the summer months, two banks, two supermarkets, various other shops, a campsite and Lido swimming pool. Boat hire, cycle hire. Tourist information, a spring Strawberry festival and an autumn Medieval festival. Every Monday evening there is live music by the river and BBQ, Saturday nights in the summer there is a market and fireworks.

From the Owner

Built on the site of a 12th century monastery there is a great deal of ecclesiastical masonry incorporated into the property including the large fireplace in the living room. Despite being full of history the property is modern and comfortable.

  • Outside: Village farmhouse set within half an acre of gardens. Beautiful views out over the valley with the Chateau de Castelnau visible on the far side of the valley. From the 1st floor balcony. Covered eating area as well as several large parasols and 8 sun loungers on the large patio are Utility Room: Sink and washing machine, and additional Freezer. Washing line in garden. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All rooms are provided with clean bedding and towels. Additional bedding is available for guests to change if the stay is longer than one week. Property is cleaned on changeover days. Other: Outside covered eating area to accommodate up to 12.
