About the Owner

We are young family who decided to emigrate to enjoy a new way of life. We have 2 daughters 13 and 9, who love meeting new people. James is a builder and I teach English at the local primary school. We love food, gardening cooking and socialising. We are always available to help you achieve the best from your holiday; to advise on what to see, do, and experience while you're here. We are all fluent French speakers, should any problems arise during your stay, rest assured, we can be there for you. As a family we will go that extra mile.

Relaxing break in idyllic surroundings

  • 5 of 5

Prior to booking we corresponded with Julie, the responses were always very quick and helpful, answering our questions about the area.

On arrival, we were warmly greeted by James, who gave us a tour of the "Gite", and covered how to use the cooker etc.

It was a warm sunny day and the french doors were open on to the huge garden, really welcoming. This is where we met our first animal friend...Lily the goat!

The Gite itself was very clean and had plenty of space, it had everything we needed for our stay. There were 6 of us in total, 4 adults and 2 children,(and our 2 dogs). The huge landing area at the top of the stairs meant that the children essentially had separate bedrooms too.

Because of the good weather, we spent a lot of the time in the garden, having a BBQ (with wine) in the evening, and playing table tennis matches, with the children enjoying the swing and trampoline. However the most favourite past-times were feeding Lily bread, and our leftovers to the family pig! She had a good supper on our last evening!!

The main town is only about 5 drive minutes away, with plenty amenities, including a supermarket....we loved wandering around there, and enjoyed market day (Wednesday morning). We also took the recommendation of Julie and James and visited the very traditional "Chez Agnes" restaurant in Lapenty for lunch. This was an experience we loved, and very rustic French....food and wine delicious. I am sure we provided the entertainment for the local farmers, as our French was limited! We walked there and back through the orchard, with beehives, took just under 30 mins each way from the Gite.

Sad to leave, wish we could have stayed longer, and would have no hesitation in recommending lovely area, and this little slice of Normandy countryside to friends and family.

Thanks Julie, James and family, for helping us enjoy a lovely family holiday....hopefully we get the chance to return one day.

Delighful and Relaxing French Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Before we even arrived, Julie and James could not be more helpful. We sent many e-mails asking a variety of questions, which were always responded to promptly and contained valuable information.

Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and immediately felt part of their 'extended' family. The gite is fully equipped, spacious, clean and has everything you could possibly need (including the use of linen and towels). The grounds are beautiful and very well kept. There is loads for children to do including the use of a large trampoline, swings, hammock and even farm animals that they can feed and pet. The games room, containing a full-size pool table, massage chair and xbox, was a real treat.

The local town, only a 5 minute drive away, has a large supermarket, a variety of shops and some lovely restaurants. We also visited many attractions, including a zoo, theme park, waterfalls, fort and markets, which again, were a short drive away. The gite is in a perfect location!

In total, there were 4 adults and 2 children in our group and there was more than enough room for all of us. We only stayed for 1 week and wished we had stayed for longer.

Thank you so much Julie, James, Ella and Fleur for such a wonderful holiday, it was thoroughly enjoyed by all! I will be recommending this holiday venue to all of my friends and family. We will definitely be returning again!

Location

From the Owner

Our desire to see our children grow in the country, in safety with the dream of eventually being self-sufficient food wise, was the driving force behind our decision to move here. Les Cours is the perfect holiday destination if you enjoy peace and quiet and like "getting away from it all" But still want to have easy access to all the usual amenities that a lively town can offer. We are on the borders of Brittany and Maine with easy access to the Motorway. From here you cant head directly to Avraches, Caen, Rennes and Paris. There are several Greenways in proximity for hikers and cyclists to enjoy. It is possible to cycle near to Le Mont saint Michel on these disused railway lines.

Coast/Beach:

The beaches nearby (around 45 mins) offer good free parking, easy access with ramps and steps together with a charming little cafe/restaurant. Cliff top walks are inviting people to go and explore the rugged coastline. Carolles is our favourite beach, one side has rocks and rock pools where you can see people collecting shellfish. The other side has a large smooth area of sand, perfect for children to play.

Travel:

The ferry ports of St Malo (1 hour 10 mins), Cherbourg (1 hour 45 ), and Caen (1 hour 45) by car.

Calais - about 4 hours

Airports - Dinard and Rennes - both one hour by car

Distances:

2 minutes by car to the village of Lapenty which has a bar/restaurant where a 5 course meal with plenty of wine or cider can be enjoyed for 12 euros.

The busy town of St Hilaire is 7 minutes by car where bars, restaurants and shops give the town a very lively atmosphere, and unusually for this area, Sunday morning finds the town bustling. There are restaurants for every occasion, from sandwiches, plat de jour, pizzas and top class hotels. There is also a swimming pool here and cinema.

Further Details:

The Medieval town of Fougeres is just 30 minutes away by car where you will also find a swimming lake in the Forest. Mortain is 20 minutes away with its beautiful waterfalls. The legendary Le Mont Saint Michel is 40 minutes by car which is a must see event once in your life.

Facilities

From the Owner

Whilst staying at Les Cours we can guarantee a peaceful stay where you can just relax and enjoy the view, visit many of the fabulous local tourist attractions or travel a little further afield and see the incredible Normandy beaches and the Bayeux Tapestry for example. Be aware that an hour's drive in France, does not in any way resemble an hour's drive in the UK. The roads are a pleasure to use with the absence of traffic. We can offer you a selection of seasonal produce. To include organic vegetables, fresh free range eggs from the hen house. Farm Cider and Calvados can be sourced locally for you.
