About the property

Coastal cottage in Bosherston, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Wales - Walk To The Lily Ponds Leading To The Beaches Of Broadhaven And Barafundle 2 Great Pubs Nearby

The spacious, contemporary lounge/diner has a light and airy feel with a high vaulted beamed ceiling. The whole cottage is decorated with a palette of soft whites, beige and muted blues, inspired by the sea. The exposed stone fireplace has a wood burning stove to snuggle up by in the winter, as well as gas central heating. French doors open onto the sunny patio where you can enjoy a barbecue in the enclosed garden. This has a westerly aspect to enjoy evening sunsets over the surrounding countryside. A gate leads to the cottage's own wildlife meadow and the Wales Coastal Path passes the rear boundary. There is also a large communal lawn to the front where children can play freely. Whether you are looking for a cozy bolthole for two in an area of outstanding natural beauty or a family beach break for four, a holiday at Swallow Cottage is something special.

Why andrea wyer chose Pembroke, Tenby, Saundersfoot & The South Coast

We first came across Bosherston Lily Ponds and the National Trust's Stackpole Estate by chance on our first holiday together as teenagers, many years ago. We love the natural beauty of the coastline and the magical landscape of this particular corner of Pembrokeshire. We have returned to Bosherston every year since.

What makes this cottage unique

The opportunity arose for us to buy Swallow Cottage a few years ago. We use it as our holiday home whenever we can escape. I especially like walking along the coast in the winter when the waves are wild and the beach is deserted. This is usually followed by a warming drink in front of the wood burner. Hopefully we will retire here one day.

Our guests have commented that the cottage has a homely and relaxing feel. I hope you will agree. We look forward to welcoming guests both new and returning. Please contact me if you need any further information,

Best wishes,

Guestbook comments from the owner

A nice week spent at this peaceful cottage. Broadhaven and Barafundle beaches are stunning and the whole area is joined by great walking paths. The grounds of the cottage were just the job for our daughters (3&4) to run around in. Can't think anything was missing, thank you!— J, C and family

Had a lovely week here at Swallow Cottage. Very well equipped, good location, lovely garden. Fantastic beaches nearby - Barafundle and Broadhaven for soft sand and a tropical feel. Freshwater West for wild and beautiful, totally exposed and the only people there! Would definitely come back, thanks for a great and comfortable stay!— R and A

What can I say, other than this cottage feels like home and I wish it was! The setting is idyllic, the cottage beautiful and peace and quiet is in abundance. I have been coming to Pembrokeshire for nearly 45 years and to me, it is Heaven on earth. The beaches are second to none and the coastal scenery is stunning! I love this place and hope that we can return next year.— S and L

Special interest holidays:

The area is a walker's paradise, but if you are still feeling energetic, the Stackpole Centre just down the road can organize kayaking and coasteering sessions. Surfing lessons are run by Outer Reef at Freshwater West beach.

About a one mile walk away, or 3 minutes by car, from the famous National Trust's Lily Ponds leading to the unspoilt, white powdery sands of Broadhaven South beach. Barafundle Bay, a little further along the Coastal Path, has been voted as one of the best beaches in the world!

Other nearby beaches include Swanlake Bay, Manorbier, Freshwater East and Freshwater West, popular with surfers.

Nearest airport is Cardiff Wales, is approx 100 miles away.

A car is recommended to get the most out of your holiday. Alternatively, Pembroke has a train station and taxis are available from the town. The Pembrokeshire Coastal Cruiser Bus stops in Bosherston and connects with various villages along the coast. The service is more frequent during the summer.

Further Details:

Our cottage is situated about four miles south of Pembroke. It is in the heart of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Bosherston village benefits from a friendly local pub, St Govan’s Inn which serves great pub food and local ales. The near bye Stackpole Inn has won the Best Gastro Pub in Wales award and provides excellent locally sourced food. The cream scones at Ye Old Tea Shoppe in the village are also highly recommended!

At the main entrance to the cottage is a country track where you can walk to the village centre. A new stretch of the Wales Coast Path called The Castlemartin Range Bumblebee Conservation Trail can also be accessed. This footpath passes the rear boundary of Swallow Cottage and continues to Freshwater West beach and beyond.

Bosherston is an unspoilt village with its church dating back to the 13th Century. Its famous lily ponds, owned by the National Trust as part of the Stackpole Estate, are a haven for nature and wildlife. Otters are regularly spotted and birds such as choughs and cormorants are often seen. A fishing permit can be purchased from the National Trust. The ponds lead to the pale sands of Broadhaven South beach, suitable for bathing. Other beaches not to be missed are Barafundle Bay, Freshwater East, West and Swanlake Bay. Near to Bosherston, the ancient St Govan’s Chapel, built into the side of a cliff, has many legends attached to it.

The towns of Pembroke, Tenby and Narberth are worth a visit for shopping. If you need pampering there are spas at Bluestone, Lamphey and Saundersfoot.

For days out there are numerous castles in the vicinity, such as Pembroke, Carew and Manorbier. Folly Farm is an excellent place to take children, as well as Oakwood Adventure Park and The Blue Lagoon Water Park to name but a few. A trip to Skomer Island to see the puffins, or the monastery on Caldey Island, is well worth a visit.

Fabulous cottage in a fabulous location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 5 nights in the cottage and wished it could have been longer. The cottage was perfect for 4 and had everything we needed. It was very clean and well maintained. It's possible to go for walks from the cottage and a short drive takes you to a National Trust car park where you can do a beautiful walk around the Lily Ponds and on to Barafundle and Broad Haven beaches - stunning and very quiet when we were there. We would definitely recommend this cottage and would love to return.

Beautiful cottage & location

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at the cottage on two occasions and will definitely be returning. The cottage is well decorated and has all the home comforts you would need. It is set in beautiful grounds and located very close to one of the best beaches in Wales with lots of stunning walks around the Lily ponds. You will not be disappointed and would highly recommend a stay.

A relaxing winter weekend

  • 5 of 5

Swallow Cottage is a beautifully presented and well equipped property in a fabulous location. An ideal base for a lazy weekend away to re-charge your batteries, or for a family break. Barafundle Bay is an absolute gem - a wide expanse of sand in a sheltered location that is ideal for kids. Costal walks are all well signposted and there are plenty of things to do in the area. We are already planning our next visit!

Our holiday by the sea

  • 5 of 5

This delightfull, exceptionally well equipped cottage was easy to find and in a great location. We found ourselves spoilt for choice with so many beautiful beaches close by, whether walking the coastal path or driving. Local pub served up fantastic food and is only a 2 minute walk to Bosherston lilly ponds which was a great way to end the day. A week enormously enjoyed by all of us and we will certainly be returning next year.

Hell, modern, privater Garten, nette Eigentümerin

  • 5 of 5
