Apartment in Pons, Charente Maritime, France - Located Within Easy Reach Of Bordeaux, La Rochelle And The Beautifu Charente Maritime Beaches

The apartment forms part of a 19th century house which has been sympathetically renovated and opened up to include the adjoining house, creating the spacious and comfortable home that is now available for our guests to enjoy. The mature and luxuriant gardens bordered by the gently flowing river provide additional space for relaxing, fishing or even taking a kayak journey from our river access. Across the road a wooded island provides a picturesque and tranquil place to stroll and relax. The main house was built in 1873 by a vintner, on what remained of the foundations of the main gate of the city which consisted of two round towers built in the 13th century and destroyed during the 17th century. One of the owners of the property in the 19th century was Barthelemy Gautier a famous French cartoonist and political satirist who was renowned for his acute, often biting, observations of contemporary life and manners.

About the Owner

We have owned and run the chambres d'hotes "Les Balcons de la Seugne" since August 2011 but only this year (2014)have started to rent out the 2 bedroomed apartment in addition to the rooms in the chambres d'hotes. My name is Peter and my wife is Sue. We moved here from Brussels and enjoy the relaxed lifestyle, countryside, food and wine of the region.

This apartment is in a very attractive building, in beautiful surroundings and in a very convenient location. Peter and Sue were very attentive and friendly hosts and made us feel very welcome. The apartment itself was exactly as shown on the website, and despite the cold weather while we were there, we were pleasantly surprised by how nice and warm the apartment was. It was clean and well stocked, and has a great boulangerie/patisserie just across the road. Pons is very pretty and is is very well located for access to the coast, to Saintes and Cognac and other beautiful towns, and also has great access to the motorway for visits to Bordeaux and other areas further afield.

We would definitely recommend this apartment for a self catering break as a base for exploring the area.

We fell in love with the property as soon as we walked into it for the first time. The previous owners (French) had created lovely rooms all with a different "feel" to them and this, combined with the house being situated right on the river meant we could get the business up and running quickly and in a small town with all the amenities needed for a relaxed and easy way of life.

25 minutes drive to to the coast (Talmont, Meschers, St Georges de Didonne etc)


La Rochelle airport 1 hour, Bordeaux airport 1hr 10 minutes. The port of St Malo is 4hrs 25mins., Caen is 4 hrs 40mins and Calais 7hours


The apartment is situated in the centre of Pons and ancient medieval city. Saintes is 25 km away and Cognac 30 km

Ideally situated at the heart of the Maritime Department, Pons is a perfect place to spend a few days visiting the historic Roman town of Saintes, the thermal springs of Jonzac and not least the internationally known producers of Cognac in and around the town of Cognac itself, only 25 minutes away. And as if that isn't enough, the beautiful Gironde estuary and its beaches are also within an hour's drive so you can enjoy the delights of Royan or La Rochelle.

Being situated 5 minutes from junction 36 of the A10, half way up (or down) France and on one of the main routes for St Jacques de St Compostella means that we attract visitors from all parts of the world - especially those who like Cognac, wine, Pineau de Charentes and good food! The apartment would make an ideal base for those house hunting in the area as Pons is ideally situated in the Charente Maritime and only 5 minutes from the A10. Outside: Guests have access to the garden, terrace, seating area and riverside. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen, bedding towels, cutlery and crockery are supplied. Linen and towels are changed on a weekly basis for stays of more than 7 days.
