Cottage in Bream, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England - The Forest Footpath (Gloucestershire Way) Is Only A Couple Of Hundred Metres From Property

Mill Hill Cottage was constructed circa 1850 and was originally built as a forester's cottage being extended in the early 1980's. It sits on a gentle slope and is central to local amenities and a very good local bus route to the nearby market towns of Coleford and Lydney. The cottage is located in Bream, Gloucestershire which is arguably the largest village in England. It is situated in the Forest of Dean which is a former mining area lying between the rivers Wye and Severn. It is known for its free roaming sheep, deer and wild boar.

compact little cottage, near to Forest of Dean attractions

We lit a fire and settled in quickly. From the cottage it was easy and close to various Forest of Dean attractions, like Puzzlewood, Clearwell caves, and our favourite - Kayaing on the river near Symonds Yat. Also nice to walk out from the cottage and easy to walk into the Forest itself. Disappointed not to see wild boars, but saw evidence of their activity! When the weather allowed, it was nice to eat meals in the garden.The cottage was clean, though it would have been nice to have some basic cleaning liquids left in the cottage, and to be supplied with more than one J cloth, one roll of loo paper and one binliner - we were five adults. And for five people there was only a very small towel rail for drying towels. My little double bedroom overlooking the garden was cosy, but the people who slept in the main bedroom had to put extra covers over the mattress as the springs were coming through, the bed was very uncomfortable without those extra layers. Surprised that the owners were not there, as recent emails gave no indication that they would be absent, though we were given a welcome by their daughter. There were lots of pamphlets and a black book giving basic as to shops, amenities and eateries close by, maybe a more personal touch with a book, where people staying at the cottage could write in their impressions, recommendations and suggestions, stories, places they have enjoyed during their stay, would be an asset, and help other visitors enjoy their stay. writing here is limited, a book makes it possible for children to contribute, maybe someone would draw something, leave a poem, ..whatever .....it just makes the place more welcoming.

Our stay in Bream, Forest of Dean

We stayed in this beautiful well maintained cottage for my 50th birthday with family. Having not stayed in this area before we were not sure of what was around the area, but there were no need to worry. Gill and Gordon had supplied a book with everything you could think of from tourist attractions, shops, eateries, you name it. We would definitnitely stay there again and would recommend to friends and family

A great base for exploring the Forest of Dean

We received a warm welcome from Gordon when we arrived, and the house and garden were ideal for us (three adults and two children). Good amount of space to play in the garden in the evenings, a table to eat outside when the weather was good, and a stone's throw from the Forest itself. We'd warmly recommend this cottage as a base from which to explore the Forest of Dean.

Charming, nice location, and perfect for our family

The cottage perfectly accommodated our family of 6. It was a charming stone cottage with a lot of personality. Location was what we wanted: close to the Cotswolds, Forest of Dean, and Chepstow Castle in Wales. Ideal for hiking in the forest or driving around this beautiful area. The property was clean, well tended, the hosts were available for questions during the booking process. Their garden is beautiful, and there was ample space to park the car. We enjoyed our time there and would likely go back when we can. The town does not have a Pub or Coffee shop in walking distance, but it does have a good supermarket.

Owner's Response: The 'village' doe's have a Pub 300 yards along the road but perhaps this is not in walking distance for our guests, I know I have walked it many times but must admit I do stagger home. As for a coffee shop they are correct, but we are a small country village in the forest of dean and if they had wanted a coffee they could of got one in the pub.

Ideal quiet space!

We met friends here and found that for four adults and two children, this was perfect. The cottage was clean, well-equipped and safe, and nothing is too much trouble for the Relfs! The 'black book' of local information was particularly helpful, and the surrounding area was peaceful and picturesque. Lots to do nearby and a big range of amenities. Worth exploring the garden! Many thanks for having us.

Ideal for walking or cycling holidays, with forest walks including The Gloucester Way under 5 minutes walk from front door. Lots of forest activities around the area and some great places to eat and drink if you so wish.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Bristol Airport which is 37 miles east of the property.

Distances:

The towns of Lydney and Coleford are both approximately 3 miles away with local amenities and attractions.

The village of St Briavels with its castle is 4 miles also Clearwell with its famous caves is just under 3 miles.

Dean Forest Steam Railway is under 2 miles away in Parkend. There are numerous other attractions within easy reach.

Further Details:

Local amenities are within a 5 minute walking distance. These include a post office, community library and a general store operated by Spar which includes a cash machine. Bream boasts a superb fish and chip shop (Frydays) and Chinese takeaway (Golden Lake); there is also the local pub the Rising Sun all in walking distance.

  • ENTRY to the cottage is NOT PERMITTED BEFORE 4:00PM and DEPARTURE NO LATER THAN 10AM unless otherwise agreed with the owner. Notes on accommodation: The property can cater for up to 2 pets, a charge is applied for each animal per stay. If pets arrive with no prier arrangement then the fee will be deducted from security deposit at end of visit). The property also operates a no smoking and no candle policy. Outside: The cottage provides a secluded garden which includes a picnic table, a swing seat in a wooded area and two washing lines for use. BBQ's are also allowed. Cleaning / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen is inclusive but towels are not provided. Property is cleaned each time guests depart and prior to arrival. Other: There is a snug which is used as a reading area at the entrance of the cottage complete with a log burner.
