AREA DESCRIPTION

You are staying in a fully detached villa with a private swimming pool and garden, located in a quiet street on the beautiful Athenian Rivera, at just a 25 minutes drive from Athens Airport, in a touristic area which however has not yet been"flooded" by foreign tourists and still has maintained its authentic Greek atmosphere.

Some of the best sandy beaches in Greece are at a short walking distance from the Villa. In fact 3 lovely organized sandy beaches, one with a small children's playground and all with nice beach restaurants, are just down the road at walking distance and are awaiting you.

The closest is at just a 5 minute walk (the others at an 8 and 10 minute walk). Many more sandy but also rocky beaches, both secluded and organized, can be found all along the Athens Riviera coastal line from "Varkiza" down to "Paleo Fokea", with its many seaside fish restaurants.

At just a short walk from the villa are a mini market and a mini market/bakery and a nice and not expensive Greek seaside Taverna/restaurant.

The main street of our village, with supermarkets, shops, cafeteria's and restaurants is at just 1km-3/4mile; about a 15 minute walk.

There are also many interesting places to visit near by, such as "Cape Sounion" with the famous Temple of Poseidon with its magical sunset, the picturesque village of "Porto Rafti" with its lovely bay and walking boulevard full of restaurants, which looks like a Greek island, "Vravrona" with the ancient Temple of Artemis the Greek goddess of hunt and nature, "Varkiza" with its seaside walking boulevard and restaurants, the impressive Vouliagmeni cave lake resort, where one can swim in lukewarm "healing" water all year round, the cosmopolitan city of "Glyfada", with its many high class shops of all kinds, cafeteria's and seaside walk, the lively ports of Lavrio and Rafina etc.

GOING TO ATHENS CENTER

There is a bus stop at just 600m from the apartment, for the Athens urban express bus to the metro station. The bus leaves every 20 minutes and quickly brings you to the metro station, from where you go you straight into Athens Center, making also a stop near the Acropolis. The trip from our place to the Acropolis, along the beautiful Athenian Riviera coast, takes in total a little over an hour.

ATHENS DESCRIPTION

On the other hand however you are also “just around the corner” from Athens center, one of Europe's oldest and most interesting cities, with many breathtaking places to see and visit, such as of course the famous Acropolis. The city however also offers a number of other large impressive ancient sites, where one feels like taking a journey back into time.

Little electric street trains, open air double deck “hop on hop off” buses, horse carts, stand up mopeds and family bike carts, are just a few of the means available to explore the unique Athens center around the Acropolis. The new impressive Acropolis museum, which has been voted amongst the best museums in the world, is a “must”.

The world famous "Plaka" Athens tourist area, with its many narrow roads full of little shops and restaurants with live music, is considered to be one of the best tourist areas of any city in Europe and is an “obligatory visit”, both during the day as well as in the evening; experiencing that special “Athens by Night” feeling !

Lycabettus hill truly is impressive, offering a stunning view of the city. The “Teleferic” train, takes you up the hill though a tunnel inside (!) the mountain, where you can sit at the top restaurant and have a magnificent view over the city all the way to Piraeus harbor.

One must also visit the parliament building with the traditional Greek guards and of course let's not forget the lively center of modern Athens itself, with a its colorfull neighbourhoods and famous nightlife.

The picturesque "Mikrolimano" harbour in Piraeus (40 minutes by car from the villa), also is a tourist favorite.

The beautiful Saronic Gulf Islands: Aegina, Hydra and Spetses, are also easy to visit on day trips.

ONE DAY EXCURSIONS

If you like to explore a little more and see the most beautiful ancient sites of Greece, many interesting day trips can be made by car from the villa. If you are Interested, we also organize private one day trips by Mercedes car to the below.

About Con Jan

My name is Constantinos, I am a 55 year old journalist and writer.

I speak fluent Greek, English, French, German, and Dutch.

My wife and I used to live in Athens center but 10 years ago, after holidaying in the area, we decided to go with our (then) small son for quality of life and moved to the beautiful Athenian Riviera.

It is a peaceful, secure place with friendly people, where one can still enjoy authentic Greek hospitality.

Our new property is located in a quiet street, at a short 5 minute walking distance from several lovely sandy beaches.

I live near the property and am always available for any info or assistance you might need.

Why Con Jan chose Nea Smyrni

This Villa truly constitutes "The best of both worlds", since it combines the possibility of a relaxed beach holiday, with a city trip to Athens; Europe's oldest capital.

It is the ideal choice for guests who want to enjoy Athens to its fullest, but don't want to stay in the busy city itself.

Just south of the hustle and bustle of central Athens, lies one of the city’s most treasured assets, also known as “Greece’s best kept secret”: “The Athenian Riviera”.

This is where we are located, at just a 5 minute walk from several lovely sandy beaches.

You won't find the "Athenian Riviera" on any Google map; the name is local shorthand for the beautiful scenic strip of coastline, that stretches from the municipality of Paleo Faliro, just south of Athens, to the spectacular Cape Sounion, at the southernmost tip of the Attica province peninsula.

Easily accessible by car, bus or tram, the Athenian Riviera is a “must-see” for anyone wanting to enjoy Athens to its fullest.

All along the gorgeous photogenic stretch of palm tree coastline, with it's five-star resorts, spas, esplanades, marinas, rocky coves, windsurfing, sailing and sandy beaches with blue-flag certified crystal clear waters, you can experience the kind of island magic that many people come to Greece for, …. without having to set foot on a ferry !

Our property is also ideal for going on one day tours, to some of the most famous ancient sites of Greece such as Delphi, Mycenae etc. Visiting the near by Saronic gulf islands, such as Aeghina, Hydra and Spetses, on one day trips also is possible.

It can also serve as a "home base", for two day trips to islands a bit further away, such as Santorini, Myconos etc

What makes this villa unique

This fully detached villa is located on the beautiful Athenian Riviera, with its many picturesque villages, but also cosmopolitan cities for shopping and for going out.

It is the ideal choice for guests who want to enjoy Athens to its fullest, but don't want to stay in the busy city itself.

For guests looking for a spectacular sea view, our Penthouse apartment is your first choice. On its large balcony up to 8 people can enjoy their dinner, watching the sun set into the sea.

We are located at a short walking distance from several of the best sandy beaches in Greece (one of which stays open all year).

We are also very close to Athens center", at a little over an hour from the Acropolis with public transport.

Our place can also be used as a base, for visiting Greek islands such as Santorini, Myconos on short two day trips.

The Saronic gulf islands can be visited on one day visits (go in the morning, come back in the afternoon).

We also offer several private one day tours by car, to famous archaeological site such as ancient Corinth, Delphi, Mycenae etc.

Unexpected turn that ended well!

  • 5 of 5

Having read the previous reviews I can only echo the sentiments expressed already. My wife and I stayed in the upper apartment and found it just suited perfectly for the two of us. The view from there is gorgeous, especially the sunsets! The nearby Lagonissi commercial district affords plenty of options for all your immediate needs and the location itself allows easy access to interesting spots in all directions. The little towns dotting the coastline boast a variety of restaurants and unique little cafes. My impression of Athens; the people are engaging, the food is delicious, the scenery and weather are beautiful and the historic spots are awe inspiring.

My most sincere recommendation, however, is reserved for our host, Con. Our vacation took an unexpectedly sideways turn when my wife’s existing condition deteriorated and she had to be admitted to the hospital (two different times!). Con was there, available with help and advice whenever and wherever it was needed. This was a big relief, having to deal with an unfamiliar language and, even more importantly, an unfamiliar health care system.

Needless to say this situation had quite an impact on our schedule, but Con was very flexible and we were able to visit most of the sights in our original plan. I highly recommend taking tours with Con. He is very knowledgeable and you’ll have a great conversation all the way!

I can’t end without giving some advice on the Health Care situation. There are two systems; one public and one private. You get adequate but impersonal care in the overwhelmed public system. The private system is well staffed, well equipped and thorough. Make sure you have insurance and go private!

……And enjoy the Athena Riviera!!

Owner's Response: Dear Andy, Thank you for your very nice review and kind words as to my person; I did my very best to make something positive out of a bad situation and feel grateful that it was appreciated. Coming of the plane at your arrival, your wife could barely walk and was very weak. I had hoped that she would get better after a few days of rest, but unfortunately things only got worse. I feel very sorry for her, because she really didn't see anything at all in Greece; I must admit though that she kept her spirits up in spite of all her troubles. At least you and me went on some great tours, which I very much enjoyed and you were able to show her your photo's of the places she wanted to visit. In spite of all your bad luck, you never complained and were wonderful very nice guests and I really enjoyed your stay with us.

Owner's Response: Dear Keith and Sandy, It truly was a great pleasure to have you stay with us at the villa; one cannot ask for nicer guests than yourselves. We had been talking a lot for months on Facebook before your arrival and I knew your expectations were quite high, so I am glad that our villa and Greece fully lived up to them and that you had a great holiday, coming all the way from the USA. Thank you also very much for you kind comment as to my person, my motto is: "when guests arriving as strangers leave as friends, I am a happy person" ! One thing is for sure: you are now my friends !! I enjoyed the three one day private tours we went on - (1. Mycenae - Nafplion - Theater of Epidaurus, 2. Delphi - Osios Loukas monastery - Arachova and 3. Attica - Temple of Artemis - Cape Sounion/Temple of Poseidon etc.) - just as much as you guys did, since your good company made them great fun. Finally, just a short comment on the distance of our lovely beaches. It all depends of course on how fast one walks, but just as an indication: the closest one is at just 500 meters. Thank you for everything and this nice review and we'll keep in contact on Facebook !

Superbe villas pour des vacances inoubliables!

  • 5 of 5

Why Here? I will tell you...

  • 5 of 5

A little about the property before, I tell you why here….

The property itself is nice and provides several options depending on your needs. There are three apartments you can choose from. This is perfect for large family or groups that want to be together but have some separation. The property has a great front court area that is tiled and a wonderful contained back garden with pool and a grass area, great for children that want to run around.

The location of the property is wonderful; you are walking distance to a beach, restaurant and bakery. My family rented a car, which did prove to be nice to have. It allowed us to explore the area more and stock up on items one of several markets. We also reserved a car seat which too was nice to have. You will learn quickly that Greek drivers tend to move quickly.

So why should you rent here?

In all likelihood if you have been searching for somewhere to stay in this area, you have probably seen properties that offer a bit more in terms of being upscale in terms of décor, layout, etc. You have probably seen properties that offer everything above I mentioned as well. What you get with this property goes well beyond the great accommodations, great value and great location.

What you won’t get with other properties is Con, the host. This man is wonderful. Simply put, what he did for us was well above our expectations. Our trip to Greece was not just a vacation for my family. We came over to Greece in attempt to grow our family with IVF/Egg Donor. Because the process would take up to 10 days, we decided to bring our little two year old daughter and my wife’s mother to help when we had to be at the clinic. Con made the stressful side of our trip much easier. He took us to and from the clinic, twice. He checked in on us all the time, offering words of encouragement that you knew were sincere. Con will go out of his way to make sure you have a wonderful stay. He will meet you at the airport, show you around the area and will sit with you to explain how to get to and from the city. Con goes above and beyond with no expectations. He does this simply because he truly wants you to be comfortable and enjoy your time there.

No matter the outcome for my family, we will look back at our trip to Greece with very fond memories, many as a result of our host. He made the stressful side of our trip easy. Simply put, you can stay anywhere, but you likely won’t get someone like Con.

Owner's Response: Dear Tricia and Cory, I am truly lost for words after reading your sincere and warm review, written straight from the heart. Be sure that my feelings towards your family are the same as yours towards me; you came to us as strangers, but left as my friends ! I always try to put in the extra effort for our guests, so they have a great holiday with us, because that is the service I would hope to get, when I would be abroad on holiday. I went a but further for you, because of the particular reason for which you were staying with us. Since we have had couples for IVF in Athens before in the villa, I know that it puts a lot of stress on them and does not allow them to really relax and enjoy their stay to the fullest. I must say that I am very impressed by the way you and Tricia handled this difficult and stressful situation. In fact, if i didn't know, I would say that you behaved just like guests, being on a regular holiday, having a great time. Respect !! Your friend for life in sunny Greece, Con

Highly Recommended

  • 5 of 5

Having just returned from a 10 day holiday at this villa, I can fully endorse what other reviewers have already written.

We had the ground and top floors which, in addition to 2 well stocked kitchens, living rooms and 3 bedrooms, gave us 2 lovely large balconies and access to a good sized garden and pool. It's an easy walk to the beach, local bakery and restaurant etc and the Lagonissi main street is only a 3 minute drive / 20minute walk.

As we had a car rental, getting around the wider area was incredibly easy. Constantine (the owner) provided us with all the information we could possibly need and his tips and suggestions for day trips / visits gave us plenty to see and do. But, with a place to stay as good as this, we were also very happy to spend several days simply relaxing at the villa.

Add in the friendly locals, good food & wine and the fantastic places to visit, and you have the perfect location.

Highly recommended.

Athens Riviera, the best kept Greek secret

  • 5 of 5

I'd never heard of the Athens Riviera until I came across it while searching for a new destination to visit. We booked this apartment for May & have just returned from a 9 day visit. The apartment was beautiful, spotlessly clean, nicely furnished & the views of the sea & countryside were spectacular.

It is only a short walk to the beach, several restaurants, the bakery & a small shop, it is also close to the bus stop.

The Athens Riviera is very scenic dotted with lovely resorts & beaches & it is not over run with tourists. It also has the added benefit of being close to Athens. A return trip to Athens by bus/metro cost this couple of pensioners only 2.40 euro.

Now a word about our host Constantin, from the time he picked us up at the airport, on arrival until he dropped us off at our departure he was extremely courteous & friendly at all times. During our stay he took us on an orientation tour of the locality, brought us to the supermarket to stock up & also on a visit to the spectacular Cape Sounion. His advice for our visits to Athens was excellent & it ensured that we visited most of the important sights, his tip to visit the roof garden of the Athens Gate hotel was inspired - spectacular.

We also joined him for his tour to ancient Corinth, Loutraki & the surrounding area & we spent a great day in his company discussing a wide range of interesting topics.

To finish I have to say that nothing was too much for Con he was the perfect host & both my wife & I would highly recommend this holiday venue.

Owner's Response: Dear Anthony, I feel very lucky having the privilege of hosting such nice and friendly guests as yourselves. It really adds a lot to renting out our villa and making some money, when you can make some new friends in the process. You are definitely in my all time top ten of nicest guests ever ! I always put myself in the place of our guests and think, "if I was going on a holiday trip abroad to a place I have never been before (in your case Ireland), what service and information would I like to receive from my host". I also very much enjoyed our tours to the ancient sites we went on together, just as much as you did. Thanks for being our guests and your wonderful review. I truly hope to see you again.
