About the Owner

I have been married for 21years and have two grown up sons, both involved in the film industry. Having initially been brought up in the country, I was eager to move back with my family as soon as I could afford to do so. It was an idyllic family home which the children enjoyed growing up in immensely.

Fabulous place to visit

  • 5 of 5

Just had a tremendous 4 night break at Popps cottage

It is an absolute delight hidden away from the world yet only a 20 minute drive from Colchester or Maldon. We thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet of poppps in the evening yet only had a short drive to the towns.

The cottage is delightful and has everything you need.

Thanks to Mike for being a honest trusting gent and to Russell for helping me when I called on a Sunday afternoon (I really appreciated it)

I think this is a absolute gem and would honestly recommend it to any family looking for a peaceful break

Set in lovely location with fabulous garden and chickens to feed which the children loved

Wonderful family holiday cottage

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my husband and 4 of my children. It was fantastic & the kids loved the upstairs room holding games and videos - my teenage son used it as an escape from his younger siblings - along with the outdoor space for them to play, making dens in the 'crocodile pit' (croc moved away long ago), or playing on the slide and with frizbees or football. We all loved feeding the hens too. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable with views over the garden and surrounding fields, the bathroom perfect for a family with both bath and shower.

The location is great for days out, with a fairly easy drive to the Essex coast and the larger town of Colchester with its Roman castle, massive park, shops and restaurants.

Closer to the cottage are a few pub restaurants (all serving great food in a lovely atmosphere) and a supermarket, along with the farm, museum and teashop of Tiptree jams. We had dinner one evening at The Blue Anchor, who were happy to cater for vegetarian and vegan diet. It's also a short drive to Kelvedon station, yet far enough away from everything to be peaceful and tranquil.

The owner was friendly and informative.

Wonderful weekend

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful weekend staying at Popps Cottage. Mike had left a lovely welcome basket for our arrival which was much appreciated. Popps had everything we needed for a short break and a fantastic garden for the kids to run around and play in which was great for when friends came round to catch up. I would definitely recommend Popps Cottage to anyone else and indeed already have!

Amazing Place

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was a dream house, stayed there for a week.

We were two adults and three children, there is a play room with lots of games movies DVDs, a good working kitchen fully loaded appliance .

The cottage is quite remote and there is no one to bother you , no noises at all !

At night it is kinda scary cuz it is really dark outside , a few minute drive there is a supermarket with all your needs. I liked the soccer pitch to play in, and the surrounding woods have fruits in them.

The host was awesome , talked on the phone and TXT messages.

Would go there again for sure !!

Location

From the Owner

Seeing our children enjoying the extensive gardens and the countryside beyond was a pleasure to behold, however times move on and a move into town necessitated and I was eager to keep the cottage for weekend and summer retreats. The greatest testament however I can give is by our guests over the past few years, who have come back time and time again, enjoying the cottage as much as my family and I do.
