Abernethy is a beautifully restored Victorian town house, sleeping up to 12, right in the heart of the famous Lake District town of Keswick.

The traditional slate built town house is restored to a high specification with natural wooden floors, an open fire, retained period features, central heating throughout, instant hot water, Wifi, TV, DVD, fabulous dining table for group meals, spacious lounge with mountain views and a well equipped kitchen.

With a lockable outhouse, utility and warm under-stair cupboard there is ample space for storing kit whether it be muddy boots, bikes, waterproofs, ropes, umbrellas or canoes.

The house is a 5 minute flat, walk from the town centre with its shops, bars, restaurants and all Keswick attractions making this a superb venue for a family or friends holiday or a group/business activity challenge.

Abernethy can usually be booked for weekends, flexible mid-week or full weeks.

The house is in a perfect, central location in a quiet residential area. We do ask guests to be respectful to our neighbours and ensure noise is reduced to a sociable non-disruptive level by late evening. There are plenty of places in Keswick where a fun party spirit can be enjoyed until the early hours.

Parking is free and unrestricted on the street and on neighbouring lanes and streets.

Keswick is a quaint market town with a plethora of independent shops, bars, restaurants, galleries and traditional Lakeland pubs. These fine facilities matched with a multitude of Outdoor Pursuits accessible on foot from the town, make Keswick a superb base from which to explore, adventure or simply observe and relax. There really is something for all generations with a well established theatre, indoor pool with flumes, cinema, climbing walls, 1000metre plus fells, lake, water-sports and biking trails all within 5 mins from the town centre.

The Lake District National Park is a beautiful area in Northwest England. Covering over 800 square miles. It is the largest National Park in England. The beauty and grandeur of the scenery is a key reason for making the area a National Park. The National Park has magnificent countryside, mountains and lakes. The Lake District is a great venue for walking, cycling, mountaineering, watersports or pottering around the charming market towns and villages.

Really Nice House in a Perfect Location. This house was perfect for our party of 11. Lots of space, ideally located for Keswick with shops, restaurants, pubs and hills all within easy walking distance.

The house itself was very nice, with everything we wanted. Beds were very comfortable, kitchen had everything we needed to cook for 11. Plus stunning views from the living room window. Will definitely be back next year.

Our group came for a running weekend and could not have asked for more the house was right in the heart of Keswick and had everything you could need, even a washing machine which was great after a muddy day on the fells. The bedrooms were very comfortable with a great big lounge and dining room

We stayed in this beautiful house for a long weekend in May 2014. The house has lots of beautiful period features as well as all the mod-cons anyone could ask for. The well stocked kitchen meant we were able to make all our meals and the large dining table meant it was easy for everyone to eat together and share an amazing social experience. The beds were very comfortable and good sleep was had by all. The three bathrooms meant that there were never queues.

The house was immaculately clean and well cared for and was made to feel like a home rather than just somewhere to stay. It is ideally situated for access to Keswick and parking on the street was not a problem. We will certainly return.

Excellent location, wonderful stay.

Stayed in half term week with my 8 other members of my family. This house was perfect. Plenty of room, clean, nicely decorated and just a short walk to Keswick centre. 3 bathrooms meant no waiting around in the mornings so we could get out to enjoy Keswick. Best equipped Kitchen I have come across in a rented house too...made our group meals easier! Would not hesitate to book Abernethy again.

Loved it! Perfect location and lovely house

Myself and 7 friends stayed at Abernethy for a long weekend and loved it. Perfect for the town centre - good job, as I managed to fracture my foot beforehand and couldn't walk far, so well placed for all the fab shops! Lovely house or home I should say as that's what it felt like.

Great group accomodation in Keswick

A stayed at Abernethy for a long weekend for the annual "10 in 10" hillwalking challenge. The house is lovely - well appointed, flexible accommodation for up to 12 people, great location a few minutes from Keswick town centre. Easy booking and excellent communications from the owners, both prior to arriving and in the house itself. Thank you for helping us have a great trip!

A lovely house in a great location

We had a great stay at Abernethy. The house is immaculately kept, and is probably the best kitted out holiday accommodation we have stayed in! We have three small children and it was ideal for them, great to explore and everything you could need to make the stay as relaxing as possible even with the family!

The house is very well positioned for both Keswick and the wider Lakes. There is a great local park (again very handy for running the kids) and the lake is close enough for the kids to bike or scoot there without the all too familiar moaning starting.

All in all, we have a fantastic week and would not hesitate to recommend Abernethy to all.

Perfect location for Lake's weekend in Keswick

We – that is my 3 children, their partners and 8 grandchildren, stayed in this lovely house in Keswick for 2 nights.

We found the accommodation perfect for us all, and we all fitted in without too much squash! The location of the house was even more

ideal as we didn’t need to use the cars all weekend. Easy walking (and safe) down to the lakeside and also Fitz park was very accessible

with a very suitable playground and cafe for all ages!

The only downside was the weather – rather cold for June, but the house was very cosy and warmed up beautifully!

Would definitely recommend a visit 5*!

A lovely place

A lovely house in a lovely part of town! The place was easy to find and although there wasn’t any allocated parking it was still very easy finding a spot on a supposedly busy Saturday afternoon.

The whole place was well kept and clean. Quite importantly for us there was a huge sitting and dining room. As we were coming and going the whole time we were there proximity to the main street (200m) was brilliant.

We love Cumbria and the Lake District and it has been a dream of ours to one day own a house in Keswick. We have a young family and are keen for them to grow up experiencing adventure in the outdoors. Abernethy's prime location, with outdoor and indoor activities accessible on foot from the door, make it an ideal place for all ages and all interests. We also greatly appreciate home comforts such as instant hot water, an open fire and comfortable beds - especially after a day walking in the fells or cycling over mountain passes. After all that fresh air we like to relax with a pint of Cumbrian ale and a meal in one of the many restaurants. We believe guests will enjoy both the comfort of the house and the array of activities and entertainment in the local area.

The nearest airports are Newcastle International (88miles) and Manchester International (120miles). As Keswick is the main town in the northern Lake District it is regularly serviced by buses from Penrith and Cockermouth as well as offering services into the Centre and South of the National Park. A car is not essential but this depends how far from the beaten track you are keen to explore.


Penrith for the M6, supermarkets, NW train line and Rheged is 17miles.

Carlisle with its castle, cathedral, shops and leisure facilities is 31 miles.

Cockermouth (Wordsworths birthplace) with its antique shops, cafes and galleries is 14 miles. Ambleside on the shores of Windermere is 17 miles and Windermere town with its many facilities, launches and Beatrix Potter World is 20 miles.

Birdoswald on Hadrian's Wall, nr Brampton is 45 miles.

Scotland is 45 miles and Edinburgh 130 miles.

Abernethy's perfect location (central yet quiet) make it ideal for access to the many parks, restaurants, pubs, shops, Derwentwater Lake and surrounding Lakeland Fells. A small supermarket is within 2 mins walk, and the main shops all within 10 mins from the door. Fitz Park with it's newly refurbished play area, grass tennis courts, bowling and putting is 3 mins walk from the door too.

  • Notes on accommodation: Parking at Abernethy is free, unrestricted street parking. There is also a lane behind the property with access to the rear yard which can be useful for unloading. Outside: There is a small outside yard to the rear of the building but as Abernethy is in a quiet residential area we ask people to respect our neighbours and keep noise to an absolute minimum in the evening and early morning. The yard has a small table and chairs and is an ideal spot to enjoy a morning coffee in the sun whilst planning your day's adventures. Utility Room: Beyond the kitchen there is a utility room which houses the washing machine and also includes a traditional wash basin, making a nice feature. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen is provided and the property has a full clean after each group departs. Towels are not provided but please feel free to contact the owners if necessary as towels can be arranged at extra cost. Other: There is also a dining room with a large dining table seating up to 12 people, ideal for a group meal and socialising after enjoying the many activities in and around Kewsick.
