Cottage in Croyde, Nr Braunton, North Devon, England - Peaceful location in the old part of the village.

This property forms part of one of the original buildings in Croyde. Having been a post office and a restaurant in former lives it is now a lovely terraced residential property with all you need on the door step, including a pretty stream. It is a great bolt hole for winter months and a fantastic summer location and a base from which to enjoy all that Croyde and North Devon have to offer.

This comfortable two storey cottage has 2 double bedrooms upstairs with a shower room with instant hot water and WC. Downstairs there is a small porch which leads into a through sitting room with a dining area which has room for 6 comfortably. Two high chairs are also provided which are stored away and easy to assemble if needed.

The kitchen provides everything you need with additional facilities in the barn room across the rear courtyard including a high quality washer dryer and a freezer. There is a pretty courtyard to the rear of the kitchen which is used to access the barn room and the steps which take you up to a mature and secluded but well proportioned garden. The garden is on the right hand side at the end of the path from the steps. There is a BBQ for guests to use (requires coals) and a table and chairs for outdoor dining. On a clear day you can see the sea at Croyde Bay from here.

The cottage is very accessible to Croyde Bay which is one of the best surfing and body boarding beaches in the country. Close to the property is The Manor pub which is perfect for diners and families with a playground in its garden.

The Jurassic coast is all around offering spectacular scenery and walks. With several pubs, restaurants, surf shops and icecream/pasty parlours in Croyde plus the facilities at Ruda holiday camp (swimming pool and supermarket) it is remarkable how unspoilt this location really is.

Saunton Sands, Putsborough Beach and Woolacombe Bay are all within easy reach.

Nearby Braunton (10-15 minutes drive) provides more mainstream shopping including a sizeable Tesco plus a doctors' surgery and more surf shops.

About the Owner

We are a family of 5 and use the cottage regularly with the children and to get away with friends. The children love being by so many beaches and have a particular fondness for Putsborough with its rock pools and expanse of sand perfect for sand castle making and competitions! They are getting into body boarding now and have caught the bug. Wetsuits open a whole new world of warmth although the sea can get pretty warm in the late summer and autumn. There is so much to do there: amazing and varied walks, a choice of beaches that provide often different surfing conditions despite how close they are, so perfect for all. Surfing lessons are readily available as is coaststeering and all manner of activities. There is no better place to be when the sun is shining.

We bought the property as a shared family bolt hole to enable us to spend time by the sea with frields and family. We camped in Croyde first and loved it so much we focussed on this village to buy a property. With young children it is a great getaway from where we live.

15-20 min walk to sandy Croyde Bay via the village and then a pedestrian footpath through fields and dunes. Lifeguards are there in summer months and it is perfect for surfing/body boarding. Parking either side of the beach is also available at a charge. Saunton Sands, Putsborough Beach and Woolacombe Bay are all within easy reach by car (and walking if inclined) at 5, 5 and 10 minutes' drive time respectively, again with a parking charge. There are lots of beautiful walks around this coast.


Motorway access to Croyde is via junction 27 of the M5, along the north Devon Link Road (A361) towards Barnstaple. From there continue along the A361 towards Braunton and Ilfracombe (signposted).In the centre of Braunton (about 5 miles beyond Barnstaple), turn left after 2nd set of traffic lights onto the B3231, signposted Saunton and Croyde. Continue along B3231 coastal road to Croyde Village.Once in the village turn right at the general store/post office. The cottage is opposite The Manor PH.

Further Details:

There are lots of surf schools in and around Croyde plus plenty of places to hire wetsuits and boards of all description locally or in Braunton 10 minute's drive away.

Good eateries are: The Rock Inn (best local gastro pub) and The Kings Arms in Georgeham. Croyde has Hobbs Bistro, The Manor House Inn (a stone's throw), The Thatch and Billy Buds, giving a good selection of pub fares and atmospheres. Children's play areas are available at The Manor, Billy Buds and behind the Village Hall. The licensed Blue Lagoon cafe in the High Street makes for great breakfasts, smoothies and a pit stop to and from the beach with a climbing frame, heaters and blankets thrown in.

The village hall often has markets, exhibitions and cinema nights where you can sit in a deckchair and enjoy a big screen with refreshments.

Food shopping is at the general store (a bit limited in stock but good for basics) and also at the supermarket at Ruda Holiday Park close to the northern side of the Bay. Ruda also has a swimming pool with tube slides open to non residents.

Braunton has a doctor's surgery (Caen Medical Centre) which holiday-makers can register for temporarily at short notice if needed. It also has a good sized Tesco and other restaurants (Squires chip shop and restaurant is legendary), butchers, surf shops aplenty, bike hire for a trips along the Tarka trail etc.

Booking is not confirmed until form and Ts&Cs are signed/received (they will be emailed to you). 15% non refundable deposit required at booking, balance due no later than 4 weeks prior to booking start date. Security deposit of £100 is required in addition (refunded within 14 days of departure assuming no damage & that it left in a reasonable state). Short stays: pro-rata day rate as per rent schedule. £40 added charge for stays of less than 5 nights.

Changeover Day:
Saturday is preferred changeover day. Arrival >3 pm and departure <10 am. Shorter stays than shown and different changeover dates to be considered off peak - contact owner to enquire. Extra weekly cleaning/linen change for 2-week stays available at cost.

Notes on prices:
Lettings of less than 7 nights are calculated at pro-rata daily rate as advertised for the week in question. Stays of less than 5 nights will incur a £40 additional cleaning charge. Shorter stays than advertised may be considered off peak - please contact owner for further information and a quote.

  • Notes on accommodation: We supply beds, bedding and towels for 4 guests. There is room for two further children to sleep in the cottage but guests need to bring their own cots / blow up beds and bedding for this . If you are unsure about whether your party is of a suitable size for the property please contact the owner. People have different requirements and expectations. There is no parking space provided but guests can drive onto a shared drive outside to unload and load only. There is usually lots of parking in the road opposite. Once you have confirmed your interest in booking and availability is confirmed, we will issue a booking form and terms and conditions for signature and deposit / full payment depending. The booking is not confirmed formally until this process has been completed and the monies received. A required security deposit is repaid within 2 weeks and gives some protection in the event that the property is damaged or left in an unacceptable state. The property must be left tidy. Outside: The property is fronted by a pretty stream. The garden is located up some steps from the rear courtyard and along a path. It supplies a coal BBQ (guests to supply coal fuel as needed) and has a reasonable sized table with seating for 4. Part is paved and part is laid to lawn and it is secluded by hedges and planting. There are great views over Croyde with a glimpse of the sea itself weather permitting. The rear courtyard behind the kitchen is for access only as it is shared with the adjoining users. Please do not allow pets to foul in these outside areas. Utility Room: Located in the ground floor barn room across the courtyard to the rear of the cottage, this provides a good quality washer dryer plus a half sized freezer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Full linen for the 2 kingsize beds is included. We supply hand and bath towels each for 4 guests, plus a hand towel and bath mat in the shower room and hand towel and tea towels in the kitchen. Items are changed and cottage cleaned after each letting.
