Bungalow In The Countryside, Only 10 Minutes Drive From The Beach

Bedrooms 3
Property type bungalow
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

Holiday cottage in Mumby, Nr. Sutton-on-Sea, Lincolnshire, England LN13 9SE - Local Pub Within Walking Distance

Corbiere really is in a central position so you can enjoy the peace of the countryside and the views for miles across the fields to the back of the property. Sometimes the barn owl and weasels can be seen at dusk hunting along the field boundaries.

Corbiere has been completely refurbished (Spring 2014) and now offers home comforts such as a TV with Freeview and DVD, a leather sofa, microwave and washing machine. For guests with mobility needs please be aware that there is a step up into the shower. there is a grab rail in the shower. We are planning this autumn (2016) to repaint where needed and plan how to improve the garden area... any suggestions when you have stayed will be gratefully received!

The long sandy beaches of Huttoft Bank and Anderby Creek are just a 10 minute car drive away. From there you can walk to Sutton on Sea (and even to Mablethorpe if you are feeling very energetic). There are plenty of dog friendly cafes at both seaside resorts and pubs to relax in and for refreshments.

Sutton on Sea has long sandy beaches to enjoy, a promenade to stroll along and a good variety of pubs, shops and restaurants to try, from the Bacchus Hotel to fish and chips. Children love the large paddling pool sheltered from the sea breeze and there are tennis courts and bowls or Petanque to try too. We easily entertained 6 children aged 8 to 13 for 3 days here last year. It is a quiet resort without amusements or slot machines. The paddling pool and long sandy beach with a lifeguard during the Summer holidays is excellent for young children too. We found that hiring a beach hut was a good idea and gave us a base with a kettle/sink/4 deckchairs from which we could relax but keep an eye on the children at the same time.

Mablethorpe is a larger resort with golden sand, a children’s paddling pool with squirting water features and amusements and rides along the prom. There are donkey rides in the summer and a cinema and Seal Sanctuary if the weather is wet.

Chapel St Leonards is also popular with families and dog lovers. Skegness is about 30 minutes drive from Corbiere and has Butlins, Fantasy Island, and a huge variety of amusements, cafes and restaurants to try!

For nature lovers, the breeding colony of grey seals at Donna Nook in November and December are a real ‘must’ and well worth trying to photograph. There are also nature reserves at Gibraltar point and Snipe Dales.

The Lincolnshire Wolds with their rolling hills are only a 25 minute drive away with the lovely market town of Louth to visit. Louth has independent shops, tea rooms and a market on Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays throughout the year. Farmers Markets take place on the 4th Wednesday and 2nd Friday each month.

Corbiere is well located for a family or friends to explore this area.

About Sarah and Peter

Hello…. We are Sarah and Pete and manage the holiday bungalow on behalf of Pete’s father, Gordon, who is now in a nursing home. He built the bungalow next door in 1975 as his home and Corbiere was his tractor shed! When his eye-sight deteriorated and he could no longer drive or farm, he built an extension on the tractor shed and changed it into a holiday bungalow. We now live further away and Pete's family home is rented out long term to another family.

It is called Corbiere as Gordon only went on one foreign holiday in his life to visit his wife’s brother who was posted to Jersey when learning to become a Methodist minister! This trip made an impression on Gordon and he named the holiday bungalow Corbiere after the light house on Jersey. Hence the décor in the shower room!

Why Sarah and Peter chose East Lindsey

There are so many sandy beaches to play on that we still haven’t tried them all as we keep having to go back to our favourites! There are lifeguards at Sutton, Mablethorpe and Skegness for swimming in the sea.

We have had many lovely weeks here and have even had 9 here this summer by putting all the children in a tent outside! There is masses of space outside and parking for several cars so it is good for meeting other members of the family.

What makes this bungalow unique

We hope that all our guests enjoy the clean and simple accommodation and the welcome tray you find on arrival.

Lively resorts like Skegness and our favourite amusement arcade the ‘Lucky Strike’ are good for a rainy day. At the Lucky Strike you can enjoy a cuppa for 50p while the kids play on the 2p slots! Get them to save their coppers in advance. Meals there are about £3 on the chips/beans/sausage/egg theme.... always tasty and hot. If you go to the 'posh' cafe upstairs it is about £2.50 for a coffee!

Just remember that Pete used to ‘shovel’ the coins as one of his jobs (the sheer amount of coins meant it was easier to weigh them than count them) …. so really only the arcade is the winner!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and we are planning to really smarten up the outside of the bungalow this autumn. In the meantime we will plant up the two flower troughs and hope that helps! We have already cleaned the gutters and fascias. i hope that it didn't detract too much from your holiday.

Delightful stay at super cosy, brilliantly equipped seaside bungalow

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyable stay at this delightful, cosy bungalow close to Mablethorpe, Chapel St Leonards and Skegness. Contrary to a separate review, we found the home to be plenty spacious enough and amazingly well equipped (even down to a plug in night light in the hallway). Amply stocked with a range of games/toys so young children would no doubt have a field day identifying what to play with next. My auntie and I found the venue incredibly peaceful, ideally situated to explore old seaside haunts and super cosy in the evenings. I would highly recommend this home - 5* customer service.

Lovely little bungalow

  • 4 of 5

While the rooms were small the bungalow was very clean, tidy and the owners had been kind enough to leave a lovely bottle of red wine and a delicious box of chocolate biscuits - neither of which survived beyond the first day!

The bungalow was convenient for our needs, close to where we needed to be and offered 3 bedrooms, although each of them was rather smaller than we'd have hoped for.

We all enjoyed the accommodation and wouldn't hesitate to book it again.

Great Base Camp for Nearby Coastal Towns

  • 4 of 5

Really clean and well presented bungalow that acts as a great place if you want to visit nearby coastal towns (Skegness being the obvious one) but want a bit of distance / peace & quiet. The closest pub is the Red Lion and the food was brill....simple home-cooked food that tasted great. Apart from that, nothing much in the immediate vicinity but we knew that before we arrived. Everything of interest in the area is a short drive, and was really nice to come home to cosy bungalow on an evening. It fitted the bill for our requirements perfectly.

Owner's Response: We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for leaving it clean and tidy too. We hope that you will visit us again. December is a good time to see the hundreds of seals at Donna Nook further up the coast towards Cleethorpes but the winds are truly 'bracing' then!
