Prospect Cottage is a two bedroom cottage in the lovely village of Chittlehampton situated a few miles south of Barnstaple in easy reach of the North Devon coast and Exmoor. The cottage is several hundred years old and has recently been renovated and offers excellent accommodation for up to four people. Situated on the square in the heart of the village, next to the large parish church and local school and 50 paces from the award winning Bell Inn which has a reputation for good food and quality beer. There is a general store closeby. The cottage has an open plan ground floor with kitchen, dining and sitting areas. Upstairs there is a master bedroom with ensuite shower room, second bedroom with twin beds and a bathroom. Jan & I live in Romsey , Hampshire and are both retired. We have all the interests you would expect of a retired couple, golf, bridge, grandchildren , but not gardening.

Cosy cottage on the square

This was our second stay in this cottage,and third stay in village. Cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The weather was reasonable for time of year. Didn't stop us going out. Local shop and pub very handy. Eggesford garden centre a must lovely restaurent.

Absolute Gem.

This is a delightful cottage.Very clean and comfortable with all the amenities required for a lovely vacation. Will be back. The local Pub the Bell in is a must for great food and excellent service.

A beautiful, clean and well equiped cottage

The cottage exceeded our expectations, it was immaculately clean and had everything we needed for a week's stay.We arrived to find bread, milk, butter, cereals and marmalade/jam to have breakfast on our first day. The location is wonderful right in the centre of the village alongside a beautiful church and a brilliant pub just across the Square. The local people were very friendly. There are so many places to visit within easy reach and walks around the village to enjoy. We would highly recommend this cottage and hope to return ourselves.

Lovely cosy cottage equipped with everything you need.

Really enjoyed our stay at Prospect Cottage and the little village of Chittlehampton. The cottage was spotless and was well stocked with plates cups etc. The starter pack of bread,cereal, milk etc was a nice touch. We will definitely return. Lots to do in the local vicinity. Especially liked Clovelly Village; great for working off a few calories! Kids thought The Milky Way amusement park was fantastic. 80% of the activities were in doors which was perfect for the colder weather. Pubs are no shortage. We ate at The Bell a few times; food was nice. The Rising Sun at Umberleigh was also good and the owners very welcoming. Also recommend the Chichester Arms at Bishops Tawton. Steaks were very good there.

Prospect cottage is beautiful property, very clean and well equipped.

We have stayed in this great cottage three times now and are always happy with it.It is clean, warm, comfortable and very well equipped,with extremely comfortable beds.Chittlehampton village is an excellent location, a friendly local pub "The Bell" serves great food and a warm welcome. Prospect Cottage is a good base to explore this part of north devon.

One of Britain’s most scenic railways, the Tarka Line runs for 39 miles between Exeter and Barnstaple, following the gentle river valleys of the Yeo and Taw. Umberleigh Station is just a couple of miles from the cottage

Special interest holidays:

The cottage is very close to Exmoor which is popular with walkers. The Tarka Trail is also close by and bikes can be hired at certain points along the trail.

Coast/Beach:

The North Devon beaches are within easy reach, Instow beach is a favourite which is about 30 minutes from Chittlehampton. Croyde, Woolacombe , Saunton and also not far . Ilfracombe is just 21 miles away.

Distances:

Chittlehampton is situated 5 miles west of South Molton and 9 miles south of Barnstaple.

  • Outside: The cottage has an outlook over the village square with ample free parking. Although not reserved it is likely that car parking spaces immediately outside the cottage will be available. There is no garden but the village square which has some benches closeby, perfect to sit with a cup of coffee and watch the world go by. Utility Room: Utility cupboard housing washing machine, hanging space, ironing board and iron. Boiler cupboard with airer which is always warm so can be used to dry or air wet clothes. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bedlinen and towels are included. Extra bedlinen is available and stored in chest of drawers in bedroom 1. Other: Dining Area with oak table and 4 chairs, cutlery and crockery available. There are also some games, books and DVDs .
