Prospect Cottage is a two bedroom cottage in the lovely village of Chittlehampton situated a few miles south of Barnstaple in easy reach of the North Devon coast and Exmoor. The cottage is several hundred years old and has recently been renovated and offers excellent accommodation for up to four people. Situated on the square in the heart of the village, next to the large parish church and local school and 50 paces from the award winning Bell Inn which has a reputation for good food and quality beer. There is a general store closeby. The cottage has an open plan ground floor with kitchen, dining and sitting areas. Upstairs there is a master bedroom with ensuite shower room, second bedroom with twin beds and a bathroom. Jan & I live in Romsey , Hampshire and are both retired. We have all the interests you would expect of a retired couple, golf, bridge, grandchildren , but not gardening.

We have someone who lives a few doors away from the cottage who looks after it for us when we are not there

Our cottage is in the heart of Chittlehampton which is a lovely Devon village of about 800 people. It has a thriving village life centred around the local pub and also easy access to Exmoor and the North Devon coast which met our needs for a home from home.

Outside: The cottage has an outlook over the village square with ample free parking. Although not reserved it is likely that car parking spaces immediately outside the cottage will be available. There is no garden but the village square which has some benches closeby, perfect to sit with a cup of coffee and watch the world go by. Utility Room: Utility cupboard housing washing machine, hanging space, ironing board and iron. Boiler cupboard with airer which is always warm so can be used to dry or air wet clothes. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bedlinen and towels are included. Extra bedlinen is available and stored in chest of drawers in bedroom 1. Other: Dining Area with oak table and 4 chairs, cutlery and crockery available. There are also some games, books and DVDs .

A hidden gem

We arrived on a very wet and cold Friday night from Torquay, opened the door of the house and were all blown away by the warmth and general good feeling of the place. The lounge/kitchen/dining area are really great with everything you need in them. We all loved the little touches such as Breakfast extras/games/Welcome [pack. The bedrooms/bathrooms were brilliant, very comfortable. All in all we loved it.

P S The Bell Inn is in our opinion is the best pub in the country, the food is fantastic, the staff are lovely, we went there every night.

If you are looking for somewhere out of town, then this house/Bell inn etc its a great place to relax.

Terrific house and location

We stayed for three nights over New Year and really enjoyed our stay. The house is in a great location on the main village square with easy parking and close proximity to the magnificent church and well regarded gastropub.

The house is very well equipped and was spotlessly clean. The living area is spacious and we really liked the oak floor and oak staircase. The bed was comfy and it was good having an ensuite. We noticed in the visitors book that many people came back to the house and we would have no hesitation either in returning. We highly recommend it.

Hat a gem

This cottage is everything you really need for a good holiday base , stayed there this Xmas week , it's well equipped well furnished & the decor is spot on , 2 bathroom's a big bonus , the village location is perfect for a chill out week , would highly recommend this one will be going for Xmas again 😀😀

Lovely cosy well equipped cottage !

Lovely cottage that we've stayed at several times now. Perfectly laid out and equipped for a wonderful stay. Cosy, warm and comfortable with nice furnishings and a thoughtful attention to detail. Welcome pack very kind and just what you need for a weekend stay.

Chittlehampton is quiet but pub in the square very busy with fabulous food and atmosphere. Good location for Taunton, Exeter, Barnstaple etc as well as lots of local walks.

Communication with Chris is quick & easy and he accomodated me changing dates due to our house move...thankyou, much appreciated !

We would recommend without hesitation and will definitely be back again next year.

Great holiday once again, visited all the familiar places in the area.

The proper type is a lovely property and spotlessly clean. The location is ideal for sightseeing around the areastern. The Bell Inn is an excellent place to eat and drink.

Charming cottage in Devon village

Prospect Cottage is a comfortable well furnished home in Chittlehampton. With a comfortable lounge and dining area, the kitchen is well equipped and has a dishwasher and fridge freezer. Supplies of cereals and jams are supplied together with milk, bread and butter to make a basic breakfast.

Overlooking the square and adjacent to the church and local school it has plenty of parking and a small local shop.

The cottage is very close to Exmoor which is popular with walkers. The Tarka Trail is also close by and bikes can be hired at certain points along the trail.

Coast/Beach:

The North Devon beaches are within easy reach, Instow beach is a favourite which is about 30 minutes from Chittlehampton. Croyde, Woolacombe , Saunton and also not far . Ilfracombe is just 21 miles away.

Distances:

Chittlehampton is situated 5 miles west of South Molton and 9 miles south of Barnstaple.

Changeover Day:
During peak period our changeover day is Friday , however throughout the rest of the year we are flexible on our changeover days. Visitors can arrive from 4pm on arrival date and should leave by 11am on their departure day.
