About Violet Harrison

We are a couple, with children who have 'flown the nest'.

We now have time to share the delights of Durham and Northumberland, with other people, by offering a lovely comfortable cottage in our area.

In our properties, we apply the same standards that we would expect, if we were staying there.

Violet Harrison purchased this cottage in 2014

Great cottage, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

I booked the Cottage in Sherburn for my colleagues who were working in the area. The booking was made very last minute and the owner Violet couldn't have been more helpful, nothing was too much trouble and communication was great which made everything very easy. They were very happy with their stay in the cottage and we would be delighted to return for future bookings.

Lovely cottage in a great location.

  • 5 of 5

Violet's cottage in Sherburn Village is lovely. The location is great for getting into Durham either by car or bus. We used the bus a few times to go to Durham, the service is really good. The location is also great for exploring the North East as it's not far from the A1. The local shops (Co-op and bakery) are very handy and are just a two minute walk away. One evening we had a really good Indian takeaway delivered. The cottage is spacious, airy and very nicely decorated. The kitchen is well equipped, the beds are lovely and comfortable and there is Wi-fi. This was a great place to stay during the Christmas holiday. Violet was very helpful and answered my emails quickly. I would recommend this property and would definitely like to stay here again.

Disappointing

  • 1 of 5
Verified Stay

The property did not live up to its description :-

Some of the 'fully fitted kitchen' equipment was unusable e.g. a number of the cooking pots were badly rusted. Some basic items like a cullender was missing.

The promised off road parking was permanently occupied by another vehicle.

There was no mention made of the bedrooms facing a main road that disturbed our sleep.

The property had no rear garden, only a small front garden that consisted mostly of gravel.

I have photos illustrating all of the above.

Owner's Response: [1] These guests had the option of several parking spaces (at east 6), within a FEW STEPS of the front door. Sorry that someone else had the space at the door. [2] The details state (twice) that there is a lovely FRONT garden; I kindly allowed them to bring their dog, so the fact that we do not have a large garden, seems an unfair criticism - there are fields on the doorstep. [3] This is a country village, and nowhere near the motorway, so much sound from traffic? no one has mentioned this before. [4] I was at the end of the telephone at all times, they could have requested anything, at any time. [5] Past reviews confirm all the positives of us and our cottage.

Light, airy and delightful

Ideal for revisiting old haunts, round and and about. The cottage was well appointed and my son, his two ancient Labradors and I were very comfortable indeed. Thankyou, Violet, for making us so welcome

We would certainly recommend to friends

Lovely Cottage in a great location

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for a week over Easter 2016 and really enjoyed our stay. The cottage is clean, spacious and well equipped to cater for a family of four.

Violet left chocolates for our arrival which was a lovely touch. The location is great for visiting everywhere in the North East and not far from the A1.

We would recommend to others and stay again next year.
