You will love this beautiful historic 130-year-old 2 level Tuscan villa/farmhouse of 250 square meters. The villa is perched on a hilltop, with views over the charming village of Lari and its medieval castle. It is in the heart of Tuscany, a 20 minute drive from Pisa, with a swimming pool, a tennis court, olive trees, and a romantic gazebo seating eight with breathtaking panoramic views - where you can watch glorious sunsets with a glass of Prosecco - barbecues, all on large terraced grounds with olive trees, surrounded by a small forest.

A 400-meter gravel road is an approach to the entrance with an electric gate. A Siena-red road lined with Cyprus trees leads to the house sitting on about 2 hectares of landscaped undulating land full of wildflowers, fruit trees, and herbs, all available to you.

The ground floor is an open space with original arches and high ceilings: a large living room with antique pieces mixed with contemporary furnishings, a den with a flat screen TV and a fireplace, a dining room seating eight, a large kitchen with the best appliances including dishwasher, a walk-in pantry and a stunning bathroom with a marble sink.

Original stone stairs lead upstairs to four bedrooms: a large master bedroom with a queen size bed, a second bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and queen size bed. You have a choice of two single beds or one double in the third bedroom. The fourth bedroom has a double bed and a terrace with a view of Lari. The third bathroom has blue hand-made tiles is just outside the bedrooms. The house has 3 satellite TV and WiFi internet in all rooms. The small external laundry room has a high-end washer and dryer.

The patio in front is a great place for breakfast or drinks under the large umbrella, and around the corner, the garden has a large oak wood table with bench style seating for twelve or more with a barbecue nearby. Behind the house is a pond with space for croquet and badminton (equipment provided) and higher up, on top, the gazebo with breathtaking panoramic views. The uniquely positioned secluded swimming pool is also on top and a rustic pool house nearby with kitchen, fridge, coffee maker and a second barbecue at the edge of a small forest, which is part of the property. Once you are up there, you will just want to stay.

Below the house is the private tennis court. Racquets and balls are provided.

Everything is provided, like sheets, towels, hairdryers, shower gel, washing powder, etc.

Centrally located in Tuscany, it is close to all amenities, 20 minutes from Pisa airport, 45 minutes from Florence, 30 minutes from Lucca and 40 minutes from the beaches of Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio.

I used to be in the film business and many of my actor friends from Hollywood visited me – they thought this place was Paradise.

There are lots of concerts nearby: Lucca Music Festival, Pistoia Blues Festival, the Puccini Festival, etc. and I would be happy to assist with where and when.

Car hire is recommended.

About Andrew Gati

I used to be in the movie business in Hollywood and finally decided I had to get away to somewhere peaceful, quiet and beautiful, so I moved to Tuscany in 2006. I bought the house in 1983 and had it completely renovated when I arrived. I wanted to have a place I never had to leave. For me, it is paradise - I had quite a few famous house guests, who shared this opinion.

Andrew Gati purchased this villa in 1983

Why Andrew Gati chose Lari

I lived in big cities all my life and when I had enough, I wanted to find a place that is quiet and peaceful. yet centrally located to all amenities.

What makes this villa unique

The place has everything I needed. Lots of land, a private pool and tennis court, private forest and breathtaking views from the top. Secluded, yet near to everything.

Guestbook comments from the owner

5 out 5 stars

Andrew, is the perfect host. His home is wonderful, spacious, and relaxing. It's far enough away where it feels like no one is around but, then only 8mins to the closest store. Andrew gave us a list of things to do in the area and with in the major cities. The recommendations never lets us down! They were delicious and worth the visit. Also the villa is next to the quintessential italian village, a great place to walk through, have some wine, gelato, and stop by the butchers for some prosciutto. I would definitely stay again when I am in the area.

Lari is the closest village, 2 km.

Lari is one of those "hidden" gems in Tuscany, a medieval hill town with a castle on top surrounded by a little borgo. Built around the base of an 11th-century castle acquired and fortified by the Medicis, this medieval village is a wonderfully tranquil base for those wishing to spend time exploring the countryside around Livorno and Pisa. It's also home to an address no gastronome should miss: the Martelli Pasta Factory.

Lari Castle, Castello dei Vicari was first mentioned in a document of 1061. You can visit inside to see some of the 16th century cells men slept in, the courtroom and the Torture room. The castle of Lari is has recently undergone some restoration.

Martelli Pasta Factory - The Barilla company makes as much pasta in 20 minutes as this family-run factory makes in a year – it's an authentically artisanal operation. Established in 1926 and self-described as the smallest pasta factory in the world, it exports internationally and is happy to give its devoted customers a free 10-minute tour showcasing its hands-on production methods.

Two terrific butchers and a local bakery with fresh bread.

Lari has two banks and a post office.

Coast/Beach: The sea is about a 30 minute drive.

Cala del Leone - Public beach, near Livorno.

Very nice natural, wild beach. It's a bit difficult to reach it, but once you are there, it's beautiful!

Strada Statale 1 Via Aurelia, 57128 LI

The White Beach Vada, Rosignano - Public, free beach. You only pay for parking. The beach is 8 min walk from the parking place.

A very nice beach with white sand gives you a Caribbean feeling. It can be crowded over the weekend. Bar, toilet, food carts are available.

Dog Beach - Bau Beach

Beautiful beach, behind a pine forest, it's 10 min walk from the parking lot. Dogs can around without a leash and can swim in the water. Also nice place to watch the sunset.

Via della Pineta, 57023 Cecina LI

Pisa airport is about a 20 minute drive. A car is essential.

For wines:

Winery BADIA DI MORRONA - wines tasting is available

Via di Badia, 8 - Morrona - 56030 Terricciola.

La Dolce Vite - It's a tiny wine bar with lots of wines in Pisa, our friend Andrea is running it. It has a terrace on a nice square.

Piazza Gambacorti, 47, 56125 Pisa, Ita

Bolgheri - 1 hour drive

Bolgheri became an internationally known region following an event in 1974 arranged by Decanter where a 6-year-old Sassicaia won over an assortment of Bordeaux wines. Some of Italy's best wines are made there.

In 2017, in Bolgheri opened The World Wine Town of Castagneto Carducci wine center, the Sensory and Multimedia Museum in Bolgheri is housed in a two-story building (dating back to the 1500s), exploring the history of wine and food from the region and featuring a wine tasting area . Interesting information about famous Tuscan wines, and at the end of the (small) tour you can taste one of the delicious regional wines. 8 euro's for tour including wine tasting and cheese and olives.

Livorno Market - The market is open every day except Sunday and 5 entrances of the market lead you into the main food hall where there are richest greens, meat, dairies, coffee, bread & pastries, pasta and fish that surely inspire you to think about to whip up some delicious dishes! The market happens inside of the main building that was built back in late 19th century in splendid example of public Art Nouveau style, and also the outside of the building where there are ton of fruit and vegetable vendors in this square called, Piazza Cavalloti. Especially the “Fish and Seafood” is the true highlight of the Livorno market as Livorno is considered as one of the most important top 3 ports in Italy.

Vinci - 50 min drive

The birthplace of Renaissance polymath Leonardo da Vinci lies just outside the town. The home of Leonardo isn’t found within the town of Vinci, it is just outside its center on the foothills of Montalbano in a village called Anchiano. Here, Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 as an illegitimate child of a domestic servant and Sir Piero da Vinci, owner of the house at that time.

Excellent stay in beautiful house

  • 4 of 5

The house is beautiful with a private pool and tennis court. With a BBQ in the garden, we had all facilities to make the evenings worth while. The pool is nice, but is situated up hill and is not reachable for disabled persons. You have to take that into account. The furniture at the pool is al little bit old. In the cabin at the pool there is a refrigerator, so you don't have the go down (and up again) for cold drinks. On the top of the hill there was a terrace where we could sit and enjoy an amazing view. The owner is friendly, helpful and has provided us many extras, for example towels and groceries. Tennis rackets and balls are available. We had a pleasant stay in a very good accommodation. We can recommend this beautiful house to anyone.

Tolles Domizil mit super persönlicher Betreuung

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week during winter.

It was a perfect spot, very convenient location, and yet in the midst of the lovely countryside.

Andrew was a perfect host, meeting us on arrival and giving us terrific advice on locations to visit and restaurants.

This villa looked just like the photos. It was beautiful! Gorgeously decorated, clean and very spacious.

The kitchen has everything you might need to cook full meals and the dining area is very spacious to accommodate large dinner parties.

The terrace was very private ad the view at the gazebo to the village is lovely.

Very convenient location, grocery stores, and Tuscan restaurants are close.

We fell in love with Tuscany, and would go back to this villa in a minute!

  • 5 of 5

We returned recently from a fantastic stay at the Villa Andrew! The property is like no other, it has been lovingly decorated, contains many beautiful works of art as well as extensive gardens, hills, a tennis court, and even a secluded pool! Located in the scenic village of Lari, right in the heart of Tuscany, it is the perfect spot to relax, with options to explore cities such as Florence, Pisa and more, right on your doorstep. I fully recommend a stay at the villa, you will have a wonderful time!

Explore Tuscany in style...

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week at this beautifully situated Tuscan property. The house is surrounded by extensive gardens which are fun to explore with family. The private tennis court and pool are excellent.

Inside, there are numerous appliances for convenience and the furnishings are to a high standard.

The location is perfect for exploring Tuscany, both its rural heartland and also some pleasant coastal towns. Lari itself is very pleasant and we would recommend a trip to the pasta factory and impressive fort. The homemade gelateria place is excellent.

Andrew recommended many places of interest that we visited, including some good restaurants. He was on hand to provide assistance if we needed it.

We would certainly recommend the property. If you're looking to get away from it all and explore Tuscany, this is a great option.
