An authentic experience

We came to Pierres cottage as 2 couples and our dobie. Jack loves a spot carp fishing which is what we normally make of our summer holiday if we have one, but we were really lucky to find this place which just had everything: the fishing and the comfort. It was absolutely serene in every way and Pierre was a fine host as was "Airbus" his black lab! Amenties were close enough that it wasnt a prob it wasnt just around the corner otherwise Saint Meard wouldnt be as peaceful as it was. The farmhouse and pool were much fun to spend time in, but for us, the weather was only kind at the start of our arrival. We dont let our dog off the lead when walking her, but even with acres of land for she didnt stray too far and there were only horses and the neighbours around. The stay here was delightful and everything was in place and taken into consideration so that you didnt have a worry.

Fabulously relaxing

We arrived to a friendly greeting from Pierre the owner. He showed us around the house and left us to our own devices. We spent 2 wonderful weeks at the farmhouse making the most of the peace and seclusion the property offered. The children enjoyed the pool ... even at midnight on more than one occasion!

The surroundings were beautiful, the fishing lake well stocked - although due to the weather being so hot we failed to catch any Carp.

One stand out experience was the amazing star gazing to be had due to no light pollution, best enjoyed with a glass or 2 of Vin Blanc.

The property was well maintained with Pierre on hand should any problems arise, he also offered his local knowledge with regard to booking restaurants and local amenities.

Thank you for a great holiday Pierre, we made lots of wonderful memories and we highly recommend this picturesque property to anyone who would like to enjoy a relaxing holiday off the beaten track.

Nice house & setting but missing finishing touches

• All the accommodation is in the house the lounge dining room taking up most of the ground floor with a small kitchen and the best bedroom with shower room but no wardrobe. There are two proper bedrooms upstairs, two bathrooms and a sleeping area on the landing. There is a loft with a mattress but no bed or window for air or natural light and access is via a builder’s ladder. There were two left over cupboards in the eaves with hanging rails and about 4 coat hangers but not very clean. Upstairs became very warm with no fans available even after mentioning it to the owner. There are two sofas beds in the lounge.

• The pool and garden are not fenced but no traffic anywhere near, the pool was not heated. The barn is empty apart from a table tennis table and the BBQ both in poor condition and a dirty but usable beer fridge, if you have small children beware the pool chemicals were laying around this area.

• It is a good area for cycling but no bikes on site which is a shame. There is a village with a couple of shops a 5 minute drive away to get the morning croissants and a supermarket about ten minutes away, no bars or restaurants in the village.

• The property seems to have been renovated to a good standard fairly recently. There does not seem to be enough to accommodate large parties, we were a party of 7 and struggled with simple things like mugs and glasses.

• We met Pierre on arrival he showed us around and advised where nearest shops were and a list of do’s and don’ts. We had booked 4 months before we travelled and had to sign a rental agreement which was in French and pay a deposit, this stated the cost for the week in sterling at high season price. When we came to pay the balance the exchange rate had changed and he would not honour the price on the agreement and insisted he wanted his rate in Euros so we had to pay another 10%. It was also extra for linen so we took our own. Then the final annoyance we paid the large security deposit by bank transfer in the week before we went and lost another 5% as exchange rate shifted, really annoying. We speak very little French and Pierre speaks some English but he did not even offer to meet us half way with exchange rate problems. If you try asking Owners direct for advice you will not find any contact details on their website so beware you are on your own.

The cleaning was not the best and flies were a nuisance but goes with the country which was lovely.

Peaceful and relaxing

Spacious tranquil relaxing the house and barn are both parts of the property. The swimming pool was great.

Opportunity to fish down at the lakes

Pierre was great host who lives in the village

Wifi was fine we used it to watch freesat

Truly Ideal

The house and setting really is magical. There is everything you need to have a comfortable and relaxing stay.

Pierre was really helpful and it was a pleasure to be there. The lake holds some good fish. Anyone interested in a spot of carp fishing won't be disappointed. The nearby supermarket is handy and the local village and surrounding area is very scenic.

Would recommend without hesitation and would love to come back again ourselves.

Fantastic trip in a wonderful house

The property is lovely. The grounds are expansive with two lakes to walk around. We took our dog and she loved exploring with no worry of straying onto a road as it is so secluded. The nearest town/village is around 10 minutes by car so not far for morning bread etc. but far enough away so as the property is completely silent at night. Also stargazing is great as no light pollution. The owner, Pierre, is lovely and was very helpful and welcoming throughout our stay. Limoges is only 40 minutes away, which is a big city with plenty of shops, restaurants and things to see and do. Wi-Fi in the property is limited but available. Overall a great trip and we will certainly consider staying again in the future.
