About the property

West Putney, London, England - Beautiful, green and tranquil location 30 minutes from central London

“A charming enclave on the western edge of Putney” – London Evening Standard

This is the ideal location for families, couples and friends who want access to and benefits of Central London whilst staying in a peaceful, beautiful and green location. It is as close to being in the countryside as you are going to get in the city. Within minutes you can be on a London bus as easily as you can be horse riding on one of the nearby Commons.

This charming cottage is situated on a quiet residential street in West Putney. The house is a 10-minute walk to Barnes station and 15 minutes walk to Putney train station and tube stations, which will get you into Central London (Earls Court, Westminster, Victoria, Waterloo) in 15-20 minutes.

There are also good bus connections very near the house which get you to Putney, Piccadilly, Tottenham Court Road, Green Park and South Kensington.

The house has two large double bedrooms, a cosy sitting room with open fireplace, a generous eat-in kitchen and a large modern bathroom. There is also a pretty garden with a patio and lawned area.

The house is located in one of the greenest parts of London with a public footpath 30 seconds from your front door which leads to Wimbledon Common. Richmond Park is also nearby.

There is plenty to do in the surrounding areas of Putney, Barnes and Wimbledon. With shops, parks, restaurants, cinemas, pubs, clubs, leisure centres, National Trust attractions, sports clubs and football grounds.

The house is a 5-minute drive from the A3, connecting you to the rest of the South East of England, including good access to Surrey, Sussex and Kent.

We welcome pets (dogs and cats) but please inform us so we can pass onto housekeeping.

Bedroom 1: This is a generous room which looks out the front of the house onto the green. This room is cosy and spacious with a double bed and built-in shelving.

Bedroom 2: This room is also large and it overlooks the rear garden with views out across London. It has 2 single beds which can be put together to form a doubled bed, if required.

Living room: This is a cosy room featuring an exposed brick chimney and fireplace.

Kitchen: The kitchen is airy and spacious with modern appliances and an eating space. The windows in the roof and at the back – opening out into the garden – ensure there is lots of natural light.

Bathroom: The bathroom is large and modern. It includes a shower cubicle, a separate bath, a basin and loo. The unusual frosted glass blocks alongside the wall give the room an original feel.

Garden: The garden comprises a large and open patio as well as a small lawn. A sun trap in the summer, the garden features a giant umbrella providing shade in warmer weather, but you can also sit under it in the rain.

About Rachel Pielow-Spratt

We bought the house in 2006 and lived there very happily for 7 years when we decided a move to the country was the next step for us. Since then we let the house for a year as a residential let but decided, because of it's location, surroundings and proximity to London it would make the ideal holiday let. We use the property occasionally ourselves as my husband still commutes to London, but the rest of the time it is there for you!

Why Rachel Pielow-Spratt chose England

I was scanning through the property paper and saw this lovely cottage style property staring back at me. It looked like a very green area and even though I was living in Putney at the time, I had never come across this area. I made an appointment to view straight away and once I saw it that was that. The area is so green, it felt like I was living in a village on the edge of the countryside - but in London! There is a path 30 seconds from our front door which leads to Putney Heath and Wimbledon Common in one direction and Putney Common and Putney itself in the other direction. The path is ideal for walking your dog. It is the perfect place to stay with children but also with friends or family. It has a lot to offer.

Home from Home close to central London

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four have just returned from a weeks holiday at Laneway Cottage and had an excellent stay. The property itself is very well equipped and has a great grassy play area just outside the door for 2 energetic boys to run around on safely!

We used the 430(every 8 mins)bus from a stop one minutes walk away to take us to Putney Bridge underground station(journey of 15 mins)which in turn took us into central London in another 15 mins. Ideal.

We also visited Legoland (40 minute drive) and Harry Potter Studios (1 hour drive) with ease from the cottage with good access to the M4 and M25 motorways.

Locally there is plenty to do with Richmond Park and Wimbledon nearby too.

We ate at Al Fornos Italian a couple of times which is just at the bottom of the main road. Also located in this small service road of shops were a Tesco express, a take away sandwich shop, butchers and a decent cafe. A couple more restaurants also.

We had a great stay and as I said the cottage had everything we needed and was clean and tidy. All you can ask for.

The Lynch Family, Lochwinnoch.

Cozy London Cottage

  • 5 of 5

A lovely house on a quiet laneway, with easy access to central London. Trees and parks around us yet a short trip into town. Rachel was very helpful and was always available on the phone for any travel advice we needed. I would have no problem in recommending this property for anyone travelling to London any time of the year. The house was clean and everything was as described. 5 Stars!

Comfortable, warm & cosy cottage in Putney

  • 5 of 5

We came to London to celebrate our eldest daughter's birthday for a long weekend. The cottage was perfect, beautifully warm and welcoming on a blustery, cold November evening. The cottage is situated in a quiet terrace in a leafy residential area with spaces for parking. The cottage felt like a "home from home", wooden floors and well insulated floor length curtains, stylish and well equipped kitchen, luxurious bathroom and comfortable bedrooms. Our son used the sofa bed in the sitting room which he slept very well on.

Happy to see and hear the feral parakeets flitting around the trees outside the cottage. We had a very enjoyable Italian meal at Al Fornos as recommended by Rachael. Would love to visit again.

Excellent cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was perfect for 4 adults 2 children to explore London, really easy to get to! Racheal was very helpful prior to our visit any question she was able to answer and very quickly. The bottle of milk, wine and cookies were very much appreciated after a long Journey. I will definitely be booking again on any visits to London. Thank you xx

A place to remember

  • 5 of 5

What a nice place to spend a holiday in London! The house is located in an a truly idyllic residential area in London, surrounded by lush greenery, thus very tranquil and peaceful. During our stay, we've seen a lot of squirrels and even foxes as we walked by. On the other hand, the house is very well appointed and spotless. Everything is in place, with a kitchen properly equipped, a cozy living room and a charming back courtyard. Bonus: the station of the bus 430, that takes you directly to central London, is almost in the front of the door. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone visiting this amazing city. Many thanks to the helpful & very nice owners!

Cottage In Putney

  • 5 of 5

The property was immaculate, with everything as specified. Rachael was extremely helpful in assisting us to find our way to the house when all our maps etc were lost with our luggage. We would certainly recommend this place and hope to stay here again on future trips. The green space and trees outside were a great place for our grandson to play and the squirrels and fox, both unknown in NZ, were a bonus for him. We enjoyed the close proximity and easy walk to the Common etc. The ability to park a car was really useful as a lot of places we looked at could not provide this. The bottle of wine and biscuits was really welcoming and appreciated.
