Anemone is a newly built eco- style beach house in a development of 28 houses nestled in a tranquil valley a 5 minute walk from the fantastic Porthtowan Blue Flag beach with its beach side eateries, beautiful sand, renowned surf and direct access onto the South West Coastal Path. It is a stunning house, with great attention paid to the little details which make a big difference. As well as a large open plan living area inside, the property enjoys a large decked terrace which enjoys the sun through the day into the early evening and where outdoor sofas are provided for you to bask. The house also has a beautiful log burner for the colder months. And if you're interested in the property over the Christmas period, we're happy to decorate it, please just let us know what you'd like and we'll try and help you feel festive!

About the Owner

We are a family of five : Sarah, Gavin and our three daughters aged 11, 7 and 5. We live in Oxfordshire.

Since having children, we have returned year after year to Cornwall for the beautiful beaches, stunning coastline, foodie haunts and of course stress-free travelling, but found ourselves always day-tripping to the North Coast wherever we were staying.

So when we were looking for a holiday home, the North Coast was the obvious spot! A lunch at the Blue Bar in the middle of winter with the waves crashing onto the sand sealed the deal.

We like to holiday two weeks a year in our beach house ourselves. We continually explore new places, activities and foodie haunts as well as enjoying the fabulous beach just a walk from the house.

Best place we've stayed in - did not disappoint!

Apart from the challenging walk up the hill (which even I got used to), this property is the best we've ever rented for a holiday. The facilities were exactly as described. It was spacious, immaculately clean and well-equipped. There was everything we needed in the kitchen, even a welcoming loaf of bread and a cake waiting for us when we arrived. Communications with the owner have been friendly and we are more than happy to return. Drinks at The Blue Bar by the beach, freshest fish and chips from the local chippie, real Cornish Pasties from the Beach Cafe and delicious local ice cream were our staples in a blissfully relaxing week.

Lovely comfortable house with all amenities

Stylish & comfortable in a fantastic location!

We had a wonderful break here with another family during half term. All of us were so impressed with this lovely property. It was stylish & comfortable, with plenty of room for all of us to get together around the kitchen table or find a quiet corner to read!

The property was spotlessly clean on arrival with extra welcoming touches such as milk, bread, tea & coffee - perfect after a long journey.

The bedrooms were super comfy with lots of storage and great bathrooms too.

We thought the location was brilliant. You really are no more than a stones throw away from many popular locations in Cornwall and the beach at Porthtowan is beautiful if you are staying put, with great coastal path walks nearby.

The Blue Bar really does deserve it's reputation. Great food, with a lively and eclectic atmosphere attracting locals and visitors.

Staying somewhere like this makes all the difference if you are a family.

Lovely that once the children had gone to bed, as grownups you are not staring at some depressing swirly carpets & naff décor!! You feel as if you are in a boutique bolt hole here.

It's so refreshing to stay in a holiday home where it exceeds expectations.

Very many thanks to the owners for the great service & all of us in our party - young and old, would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

Amazing wedding weekend!

We have just stayed in the wonderful Anemone with our family for our nieces wedding at the nearby eco wedding venue. The house is fantastic loved the furnishings and really well equipped, we cooked a lot of food and always found what we needed in the kitchen,great beds and good quality bedding. Our extended family stayed in the other houses in the complex but Anemone was our favourite by far! Would love to return!

A brilliant, well equipped holiday house

From making my first enquiry, I was extremely well informed and looked after by the owner who provided excellent customer service. The layout of the house and the fact there are three bathrooms suited us perfectly. It was all very clean and well equipped. The Towan Valley estate is also a lovely set up with privacy within our own house but then a lovely communal area where our children mixed and played with others. We love the village of Porthtowan...it has everything we need for a relaxing family holiday and at no point was too busy around the shops and beach. Would highly recommend this house others and hope to go again ourselves some time!

Location

From the Owner

We only looked at the North Coast when we were buying as we love the variety of things to do on the beach as well as the dramatic coastline. But we had a tall order, as we wanted a holiday home where we could lock and leave the car. In Porthtowan, we can do just that. The beach is an easy 5 minute walk downhill (longer uphill). On the beach we love surfing, body-boarding, rock-pooling, playing in the stream or the waves, building sandcastles or swimming in/jumping into the natural tidal pool. There is a vibrant surf scene in Porthtowan and a solid local community. We love the beach side eateries - the ice-cream parlour, the Beach Cafe and the Blue Bar for food and a few drinks watching the sun set on the horizon. When we want to explore, there are many other great beaches in easy reach.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

A 5 minute walk downhill (longer uphill) to Porthtowan beach.

RNLI lifeguards in seasonal attendance.

Great surf (and body-boarding) beach with 2 different surf schools hiring kit and giving surf lessons in season. As well as the surf there are great rock pools, a natural tidal swimming pool, sand dunes and a stunning coastal path to Chapel Porth.

Dogs are not allowed on the beach in season (generally Easter through to 1st October).

Many other beautiful beaches are an easy 10-15 drive.

Travel:

Car is recommended. Our location is just 4 miles off the A30.

Nearest airport Newquay - 24 miles

Train station - Truro (10 miles) or Redruth (5 miles) both have services from London Paddington

Distances:

Anemone is located just 4 miles off the A30, between Newquay (16 miles) and St Ives (18 miles) so is really well located for exploring the local area.

Nearest beach, bars and village amenities are a 5 minute walk.

Other towns of interest:

St Agnes 3 miles

Perranporth 7 miles

Gwithian 10 miles

Truro 10 miles

Falmouth 13 miles

Newquay 16 miles

St Ives 18 miles

Padstow 33 miles

Further Details:

As well as the beach with all its activities, Porthtowan has a vibrant local community.

Eating Out

The Blue Bar, right on the beach, is a popular bar all year round with both locals and holiday-makers. Right next door is an ice-cream parlour and Beach Cafe serving breakfast and lunch throughout the year (with one off evenings during summer months). Additionally the Unicorn pub, next to the playground, has a private cinema where free films are on show during the day for kids and adults in the evening. There is a traditional fish and chip shop.

Other shops

The local convenience store also hosts the post office where cash point facilities are available. There is also a bucket and spade shop, florist, hairdresser, beauty salon and two outfits for renting surf gear or taking lessons within the village.

The next closest village, St Agnes, just 3 miles away has more amenities including butcher, pharmacy and some lovely restaurants as well as the lovely (but much smaller) Trevaunance Cove from where kayaking expeditions are available.

The nearest "big" supermarkets are in Redruth or Truro.

If you can tear yourselves away from the beaches, there is plenty for everyone in this part of Cornwall.

St Ives is a charming place for a stroll on the cobbled streets among art galleries the most famous of which is the Tate Modern. There are also some amazing eateries in St Ives. We would recommend (parking is tight) getting the park and train into town. The amazing 10 minute train journey alone is worthwhile!

Truro is the main shopping city of Cornwall with a beautiful Cathedral.

Slightly further, Falmouth has the National Maritime Museum and Pendennis Castle as well as some great eateries.

This part of Cornwall was tin-mining country and you can still visit some of the historic mines, at some even go down the shafts!

Further afield, St Michaels Mount, the cliff-edge Minnack theatre, or the Eden project are all easily visited within a day.

Anemone is within an eco- development of beach houses. It is a new house with a modern style. We have furnished with high quality items and attention to detail so that it's somewhere we really want to holiday ourselves. It has a larger than average deck at the front where you can enjoy sun through the day into the early evening. For colder months, we have added a new log burner. The house is adjacent to outdoor showers for washing off the sand and has a surf store. Behind the property is the field where cows graze. There is plenty of communal space for kids to run off steam. We love locking and leaving the car here. As well as an easy walk down to the beach and village with its amenities, we can walk directly onto the South West coastal path from the house to Chapel Path and St Agnes.

Plastic crockery and cutlery are provided, and also a selection of games and surf-themed DVDs! Note the road down to the beach is suitable for a buggy, but is steep in parts. We don't have reliable mobile phone reception at the property, but free WIFI is included. Outside: Large deck to the front of the property has two sofas for lounging and enjoying the sun with small tables for your drinks. The master bedroom upstairs has a balcony. There is a rocker chair in the room which you can feel free to take onto the balcony, please just bring it back inside once you have finished. There is a small private path to the rear of the property leading to the surf store for all your beach gear. A welly boot stand is provided so you can leave your boots and their sand outdoors! And within the car park, there are communal outdoor showers for washing off the sand. At the rear of the development is a communal children's play area. Parking available Utility Room: Utility cupboard with iron and ironing board, clothes dryer, vacuum cleaner, dust pan and brush High chair is also available (please ask) Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bath towels and bed linen are provided.
