Simply the best
The weather this year was exceptional and I've just left myself after two weeks and it's still lovely and hot .
We intend to do a lot more work this year , with more bedrooms but still single group rentals but the possibility of 12 to 14 people as a lot of clients have said they would like to come back with more friends or family
The gardens will be added to this autumn and some new shaded and sun areas will be made and a lot more automatic watering will be put in to save Lucy and Kaz so much work ! And they can concentrate more on other things .
There is so much space there that it calls out for more tucked away areas so people can wander off alone with a book or just to relax .
We hope to heat the pool with a woodburner that can be used by the clients at will and hopefully this may help lengthen the season into October / November when it can still be beautiful but the pool gets chilly .
Thankyou for coming and I'm looking forward to seeing you again next year.

I live between England and Portugal, but wherever I am but heart is always in Portugal. I have enjoyed creating a unique space for people to enjoy, and although the property has only been let for a short amount of time I have enjoyed lots of positive feedback from my guests.

Quinta do Acor is in an undiscovered, beautiful part of Portugal. The undulating tree filled landscape invites you to slow down and relax. There isn't a massive amount to 'do' and, if that suits you, as it did us, you'll be happy here. Having said that we seemed to 'do' plenty. Nearby Roman ruins at Conimbriga were magnificent; Coimbra was good too, wandering around the steep narrow alleyways around the historic University was the best bit. The river beaches steal the show though; there's one just down the road which is small but good. Further afield Avo and Gois were great, the former for jumping off small cliffs. Other attractions include the nearby small town of Coja where happiness can be found relaxing under a tree covered terrace sipping a delicious Portuguese coffee before popping into the boutique bakery for a delicious pastel de nata ( custard tart to die for!)
The Quinta is superb. It's a mixture of luxury and fun. The luxury is to be found in the 3 ensuite bedrooms, beautiful pool, outdoor dining kitchen and a whole bunch of other stuff. The fun in the fabulous pool room which has a pool table, bar, amp, speakers and even red fairy lights! Tacky it isn't quirky and fun it definitely is.
Phillipa is the perfect 'host'. She lives in a cottage which is screened away at the side of the property and is there should you need anything but ultra discreet and really friendly. She made us feel so welcome and made sure we were happy and had everything we needed.
The immediate surroundings of the house are fantastic. There are MILES of mountain bike and running tracks straight out the gate through beautifully scented pine and eucalyptus forests. The roof terrace is wonderful for star gazing - the night skies are amazing here. We saw THE brightest shooting star flash as it entered the atmosphere!
An altogether top place, we are delighted to recommend it to anyone who appreciates the outdoors and the simple life but from the comfort of a kingsize bed and a poolside sun lounger!

Simply the best
We had read the reviews and thought this place sounded great. Well it is better than great, the whole property is geared up to making you feel welcome, comfortable and totally relaxed. The setting is in the forest along a dirt track which opens up to the most fabulous villa. The views around the pool are outstanding as is the level of bedrooms with walk in wardrobes and ensuite bathrooms. Although of a high standard the kitchen and lounge areas are well lived in and welcome you as if you were at home. The outdoor kitchen (mainly used) is well equipped and a joy to use, with pizza oven and bbq. The pool house complete with pool table and bar with air con was a great way to while away some time if one could drag oneself away from the amazing, massive pool.We had a 5 month baby with us so the air con was a relief for him from the heat. Every area has an outside eating space, with the biggest decision being which area to eat tonight. There is a comprehensive file of information and phone numbers. The fish man (very handsome) calls once a week, and Lucy who is there to give you any help, extra information along with Caroline come twice a week to clean and garden an bed change. A Pool man comes once a week to check all is as it should be. Apart from that you are totally private and can go to the local river bar, (3 mins) or into Arganil (5 mins away). We never go back anywhere twice but have booked again already for next year. Clive the owner is an outstanding man, who will call you from wherever he maybe should you need him. His communications throughout have been outstanding, such a refreshing change to having to chase people up. So if you were in any doubt about this destination, don't be just go for it. If you snooze you loose.
Wonderful, spacious, peaceful villa
What a beautiful, idyllic place for a holiday - Clive and Philly have created an amazingly spacious villa with huge gardens and so much lovely outdoor space to enjoy. We spent happy days by the pool and evenings making use of the pizza oven and barbecue before wandering through the beautifully lit gardens watching the sun set over the mountains. The separate party house complete with a well stocked bar, pool table & various games is a winner too!
The local area is stunning, with miles of mountain trails to explore and the local towns of Arganil, Coja and Góis are well worth a look.
Our toddler enjoyed the pool and the warm welcome he got from locals wherever he went. We found lots of nice places to eat, be it pastel de nata with morning coffee in Coja or dinner by the river two minutes from the villa.
If you want a peaceful holiday off the beaten tourist track I cannot recommend it highly enough.
From the Owner
“We bought in this location because of the diversity of the countryside, in the foothills of the mountains but with wide clean rivers and river beaches and an hour from the Atlantic Coast it enjoys the best of all worlds. This is unspoilt Portugal, with a traditional laid back way of life, no traffic, a low cost of living and total freedom.”
Activity and Interests
Special interest holidays:
Also enjoy hiking, mountain biking, river swimming, river beaches, yoga lessons, riding, kayaking, jeep safaris, hot springs, waterfalls, xisto villages, wine tours.
The beautiful 'Rio Alva" river is a 2 minute drive, or a 10 minute walk from the house, it is a wide tree lined river with weir, beach, bar and diving board. There are many local river beaches and bars dotted around, all very different with lots to offer, other local river beaches include Gois and Avo. A drive to the coast and the beaches of Figueira do Foz is about a 50 minute drive.
The closest airport to the house is Porto airport at about an 1 hr and 40 minute drive, the roads in Portugal are generally very clear. Lisbon is approximately 2.5 hrs. We would recommend hiring a car, to get the most from your time in the area.
The local market towns of Arganil and Coja are each about a 10 minute drive. The ancient university city of Coimbra is around 45 minutes, with the charming coastal town of Aveiro about an hour away. An hr and 40 will get you to the beautiful laid back city of Porto, and heading in land from the house you can be on the highest mountain range in Portugal the "Serra da Estrela" or mountain of the star, within an hour.
Arganil is the largest town nearby with 2 supermarkets, banks, cafes, restaurants and shops. There is a bustling market every Thursday morning supplying fresh local vegetables, fish, bread and cheeses. Also on sale are clothes, shoes, local terracotta pottery and pretty much everything else you can think of! Eduardo's cafe on the way into town is a favourite for light lunches cakes and coffee. While by the local River beach at Secarias is the "Gota da Agua" restaurant, serving good traditional Portuguese food, and the proprietor, Dulce will be happy to share her expertise on the wines of the region.
Coja is charming town, with a lovely square, perfect for relaxing under the plane trees, whilst enjoying a coffee and cake from the famous "Tuxa" boutique bakery. Continuing on through Coja you can wind you way up to the beautiful "Fraga de Pena" waterfalls, well worth a visit. Also a good day out is the traditional "Xisto" village of Piodao.

From the Owner
“The Quinta is unique in that it it enjoys a priviliged position in nature, set in an acre of its own land and surrounded by a cork and pine forest, with no neighbouring properties, but within a 5 minute walk from the local village of Pousadouros and a 10 minute drive from Arganil town. The emphasis is on quality, detail and space. There's plenty to keep everyone happy, floating on the freshwater pool while enjoying the mountain views, lying in a hammock with a book, sunbathing on the terrace, rocking the bar with a beer and a game of pool, or trying your hands at pizza making. There are plenty of outdoor activities such hiking mountain biking or kayaking or you could use the place as a base from which to explore the busy market towns, historical sights and cities, wine and food of the region.”
