This wonderful and unique 5 bed 4 bath rural villa just 5 mins drive inland from Praia da Luz, offers the best in comfort and tranquility. Set in its own private gardens and orchard and surrounded by protected heath land this former family home offers an unequalled base for the best of holidays. With an airy master suite with luxury bathroom and balcony, a large, secure,private pool, large shady covered outside dining and barbeque area flanked by banana palms and avocado trees, the owners of this, their former home, have created the perfect family haven. Furnished with a mix of quality modern items and beautiful antiques, the house offers every facility. Also is ideal for disabled as access to the the ground floor, which includes 2 ensuite bedrooms is totally step free. Facilities include various terraces, roof terrace, brand new fully equipped kitchen, full laundry room, air con and log burner in main lounge, tv room with surround sound and ipod dock, wifi, huge dining room with glass dome.

My name is Hal Stewart, I am 51 years old, British and I have lived in the Algarve for 15 years, owning and operating apartments and villas for the more discerning travellor. Villa St Francis is the former family home, now refurbished and presented for tourism. This is our first year on this site, having had a very successful 1st year last year with a large EU tour operator, but prefer to operate independantly of tour operators, as prices became too high for my liking.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: Cot and high chair by request at time of booking. Outside: Accessed by a little-used rural road, totally fenced, this is a very safe property for young children. The pool area is surrounded by a fence and gate, so unsupervised small children can be kept safely away from the pool. There is covered parking to keep 2 cars cool from the sun. The gardens feature some fine mature palms, trees, shrubs and lawns, offering lovely, shady quiet spots to relax. The pool area is equipped with loungers, parasols, tables and chairs and an outdoor shower. There is a comfortable shaded swing lounger. The gardens are surrounded by a large fig and orange orchard, and open protected heathland. Utility Room: Washing machine, tumble dryer, additional freezer, iron and ironing board, vacuum cleaner and cleaning equipment. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and linen are provided, changed once a week, beach towels also supplied. Other: The villa has very large rooms and lots of space, there is a large feature dining room with high ceiling and glass dome over the dining table, access to barbecue and outside dining area.

Perfect house for our group and budget

We really enjoyed the location of the house. It had what we needed. The attention by the owner was very good. They price was very good, very competitive in comparison to the other houses of the market/time of holidays and therefore we knew it would not be luxurious or too new/renovated. Perfect for a group.

Lovely villa with a pool for a relaxed holiday

We, a party of nine, arrived on July the 8th. First impressions were that it was a bit remote so we were glad to have our rental cars. Hal and Ed were waiting for us and after a quick tour through the villa they let us unpack. Hal told us that if there were any problems we could contact him. This wasn't necessary but it's good to know that the owner is there to solve any problems.

The villa is very spacious and is suitable for 10. It was clean and the bed linen and towels were changed after one week.

We had a lovely holiday and we would certainly recommend the villa to others.

Just the right place

We're we're an extend family group of 9 adults who stayed for a week to celebrate a special birthday.

The property was easy to find due to Hal's excellent directions, it is 2 km down unmade roads.

The isolated spot was just what we wanted and the house was well suited to our party. Hal even took the bunk beds apart to make two singles and the room was still fine for adults. The kitchen is well equipped, but we used the BBQ out side most of the time, or ate out.

The last night we all walked the 2km into Espiche to sample the cuisine at Papagaio, this was a really fun night as you cook your own meat over hot stones.

We loved our time at the villa.

My one negative remark is the pool could do with a paint job, but it did not stop us have lots of fun in it.

Room for improvement

Owner said we were the first occupants of the season so why was the villa not better prepared.

1 Dirty crockery and cutlery , dirty oven.

2 Broken sunbeds with dirty mattresses (mattresses replaced promptly)

3 Broken and loose heavy pool edging slabs.

4 Barbeque not cleaned since last season.

5 Shower heads not working due to lime scale.

6 Hand basin wastes blocked and smelly.

7 Bed linen and towels not automatically changed during the 10 day stay.

8 Broken catches on upstairs window and balcony sliding doors.

Otherwise it was ok ,in a peaceful rural setting. Only suitable for 8 adults and 2 children though (bunk bed in fifth bedroom)

Owner's Response: In 17 years of renting property in the Algarve I have never received a single negative review. This is such a disgraceful, unpleasant and factually untrue review from an extremely unpleasant lady who could not even manage to greet us or smile on her arrival. Most of the comments are utter untruths, please see other reviews for a more accurate view of my property, of which I am very proud..The lady clearly had some agenda to cause upset, and will not be welcome to return.

Fabulous Villa set in tranquil surroundings

We have just returned back to the UK after spending 4 weeks at this amazing villa. We have rented several villas over the past 4 years in the Lagos area, and this was our first stay at Villa St Francis. By comparison to previous years at other rental villas, Villa St Francis exceeded all of our expectations as was by far the best holiday we have had in Portugal. The villa is spacious and well equipped with the most beautiful well kept gardens, pool and surrounding area. The owners Hal and Ed were both accommodating and friendly and were happy to point us in the right direction for all our requirements. We have returned home not only refreshed and totally recharged but have also brought some fabulous memories of this great holiday with us. I would not hesitate in recommending this fabulous holiday home.

Beautiful villa in rural location

Thank you Hal and Edgar for letting our large family of 14 have an amazing 2 week holiday in your beautiful villa st francis . The villa was a breath of fresh air clean specious plenty of room for the 14 of us. The children spent hours in the pool at the end of the day we all gathered in the large living area where there was enough room to relax we watched a few movies from the plenty English channels you have. We also ventured out to the zoo marine and splash and slide they went a storm with the kids. We also visited luz burgaue and Lagos beaches and towns where there was plenty of restaurants and activities. If you did stay hear you would need to hire a car. Overall i would highly recommend this villa.

All local beaches feature golden sands, and scenic cliffs, most with easy access, cafe, toilets and showers. Closest is Praia Da Luz, just 5 minutes drive. The smart resort of Lagos with many beaches is just 10 minutes drive. The more wild, protected, Atlantic West Coast is just 25 minutes away featuring numerous amazing beaches with almost guaranteed surf for the more adventurous.

Travel:

Destination airport is Faro, 80km drive (motorway with toll or slower, free, main road.) Car is essential for this property.

Distances:

The nearest village is Espiche, just 1.5km, with a small selection of good restaurants and local style bars. Praia da Luz is 5km, with large selection of restaurants, bars, food shopping, and beach leisure facilities such as jet skis, parascending, diving etc.

The smart, cosmopolitan resort of Lagos is 8km, and features beautiful walled old city, countless restaurants to cater for all tastes and budgets, fantastic, busy marina, numerous beaches. Selection of supermarkets and diverse shopping.

Booking and enquiries by direct contact with owner, either phone, sms or email. Deposit of 20% payable at time of booking. Full payment 10 weeks prior to arrival date. €200.00 Security Deposit required.

Changeover Day:
Changeover is usually at the weekend but we can be flexible. Minimum stay is usually 3 days (November to march only). Checkout is at 10.30 am and check in is from 3pm (15h) This is not flexible, to allow for the Villa to be thoroughly cleaned.

All prices are based on 10 persons, discount available for 5 or less, excluding high season.
