A Grade II listed thatched cottage, recently renovated but retaining a relaxed rustic style including open plan kitchen and dining. There is a large south-west facing garden which enjoys sunlight throughout the day until sunset. Walking distance from the best beaches in the area and a short ferry hop to the lively sailing destination of Salcombe. Directly on the coastal path walking route. Small craft public mooring 5 mins walk from the cottage.

About Marianne

We are a family of four, living in the Midlands. We are both interested in home and garden design. We spend our spare time socialising with friends and family.

I love to entertain and I always seem to be planning the next event.

We have two properties on Owners Direct which we have renovated to match our interests with an emphasis on the kitchen and open plan dining areas where friends and family can get together.

Why Marianne chose South Hams

We have had many holidays in the area, in and around Dartmouth and Salcombe. On one of our trips to Salcombe we decided to have a look on the other side of the water and took a drive along the beach road. We loved that the houses on that side had more space, larger gardens, were close to the beaches (ideal for our young family), and got the sun well into the evening.

Fate intervened and our cottage came up for sale at the right time. We deluded ourselves that we could “do it up” quickly. A year later, after becoming experts in heritage listing rules, damp proofing and the ways of Devon builders, we moved in.

We are delighted with the results, we think the cottage retains all of its old charm but with modern comforts like high speed internet and underfloor heating.

What makes this cottage unique

The view from the shared parking area is one of the best in the area. Walkers come from miles around to take it in. We just pop up the path with a coffee or a glass of wine!

Being close to the beaches is also fantastic. It is a short walk down the hill to the beach road, giving walking access to 3 or 4 of the nicest sandy beaches in the South Hams.

We are about 1 mile from the renovated Gara Rock, which serves drinks, good food, and has great sea views. There is also a walk there from the beach through a wooded path.

We tie up our dinghy at a public mooring on the beach and pop over to Salcombe for an early evening drink in the Ferry Inn, go for lunch at the South Sands Hotel, or motor up the water to the Millbrook Inn “gastropub”. Most things are also accessible by public fe

Gorgeous rustic holiday cottage

This is an absolutely beautiful holiday cottage in a great location. The cottage itself is like something out of a a rustic home magazine - gorgeous, yet we all instantly felt at home. And it was spotlessly clean with all the utensils and equipment I could possibly need to cook up a number of feasts for lazy evenings in with my family and friends.

The location is great - East portlemouth is lovely and secluded - with the more touristy Salcombe (with a good array of shops and pubs) just a over the bay.

I strongly recommend this cottage and will definitely return here.

Idyllic cottage break

We had the pleasure of renting this beautiful cottage as a family just before Christmas & had an absolutely amazing time. The cottage itself is full of character and charm, combined with stunning decor & a real warmth - we felt immediately at home (albeit a luxury one), and were so impressed with the views and the close proximity to the lovely town of Salcombe - which when dipping into in non tourist season was just lovely and really welcoming, peppered with charming shops, lovely little reasaturants & heart warming pubs.

We had a truly relaxing winter break, & also really loved the personal touches upon arrival, we definitely hope to visit this cottage again later in the year! I would whole heartedly recommend this gorgeous cottage in a heartbeat, a real coastal gem!

Amazing cottage in an incredible location

My wife and I took the cottage to host friends from Kenya - there were 6 adults and 4 children in our group. Everyone had a great time in a property that has clearly been refurbished to a good standard with underfloor heating, fast internet etc.

In a world where overstatement is de rigour we took with a pinch of salt the cottage description and associated pictures. We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived to find a tastefully decorated and furnished property with a decent garden located a few minutes walk (down a steep track through some trees) from the ferry to Salcombe (a 3 minute ride) - amazing!

We stayed during Salcombe Regatta which is very busy, it was great to be able to jump on the ferry into town if one felt like a little activity and excitement or to sit in the garden and read a book enjoying a very relaxing and tranquil area of Devon.

In short highly recommended.

It would be ideal for family groups to enjoy nearby beaches and walks and/or spend time on the water exploring the South Hams. Outside: Large garden enjoying full sun all day and with outside dining table and chairs and barbecue. Although the garden is not fenced off it is child friendly for children who do not require constant supervision and the owners have 2 children under 4 who happily play in the garden. Utility Room: Further Liebherr fridge freezer, washing machine, belfast sink, microwave, iron and ironing board, with large food storage area and worktop. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Cleaning is included in rental price. Bed linen is charged at cost to owners: £10 per double and £5 per single as required.
