Pure Luxury - I cannot rate this property highly enough. The owners have thought of everything! Location is excellent only 5 minutes from Mirepoix - a wonderful historic town with a bustling market & excellent restaurants (if you can drag yourself away from the pool). If you are looking for a true five star holiday look no further.

You will not be disappointed - This property is amazing! We are a family group of 12 & visited tis property for a holiday reunion with family from Australia/California & UK. It has everything you could wish for on a relaxing holiday. The house has beautiful large bedrooms and a fabulous lounge. Definitely the WOW factor when you walk through the front door. Children loved the gardens & swimming pool with BBQ area & outside eating. Also spent many hours outdoors eating & socialising at the large table on the sunny terrace just outside the front of the property. So much to do in the area & Mirepoix is such a pretty place just 3kms up the road. Lots of beautiful walks directly from the house. Pete & Julie gave us lots of information and were extremely helpful. Fantastic restaurant closeby where we had a fabulous dinner. Age group from 7 to 80 and we all had a great holiday.

Excellent for a large group of friends - Perfect location for our large gathering. Recently restored, clean and very well equipped with big rooms & a good pool with covered eating/shady area with table to eat or you can eat on the terrace or in the huge sitting/dining room inside. The owners are very welcoming & helpful. The area is generally friendly and not over run with tourists! Kitchens very well equipped. Thanks.

Charming French Country Retreat

  • 4 of 5

This is a wonderful, lovingly renovated French country property with spacious and beautifully maintained grounds, situated only a few kms from the delights of the town of Mirepox (including a fabulous weekly market). Nestled in the shadow of the famous Pyrenees it is a perfect base for bike riders and walkers alike or for those who just want to play tourist - highlights nearby include Carcasonne and the Château de Montségur. And after a day of exercise or exploring there is nothing better than cooling off with a dip in the pool, perhaps followed by drinks or a BBQ in the pool house. The owners are as warm and welcoming as the property ... a truly delightful experience.

Owner's Response: Nice to meet you both. We hadn't really realised just how perfect it is here for cycling until an ex Le Tour rider comes to stay! Hope to welcome many more cyclists in future. Walking is always a delight up in the hills with no restrictions and beautiful views. Hope to see you again.

Elegant and spacious farmhouse and garden.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a superb, relaxing stay of 6 weeks at Domaine du Pouroutounat in June and July. We approached via the tree shaded laneway to find the dwelling true to its' description, and to find a "welcome pack" of bread, butter, milk, cheese, eggs and wine, most welcome indeed after a long drive. The house itself easily accommodated 8, with comfortable and well furnished bedrooms, multiple living areas for relaxing, and a well equipped kitchen for the chefs. The terrasse for breakfast and the pool to escape the heat were particular treats.

The property proved a wonderful base for touring the many historic sites in this area, for loads of miles cycling on quiet roads, and opportunities to sample the delightful food and wines of the region. A few trout were even spotted in the local streams.

Our hosts Peter and Julie proved a very helpful resource, with many useful tips on local sights, activities and eateries, without ever intruding.

A truly marvellous holiday with gracious hosts. We hope to return in the future.

Owner's Response: Glad that your special six-week stay created memories. Watching Le Tour de France passby the end of the property together was a highlight! We're also glad that the region offered you so much to enjoy, especially your cycling up the mountain "cols" and through the vineyards and hills. We think you must have put more kilometers on the bike than your hirecar! Welcome back anytime. Thanks.

Our French getaway

  • 5 of 5

We booked to stay with a group of family and friends travelling from Australia. The house was perfect for our group, it was clean, well presented and had lovely gardens and outdoor areas.

We all had our own space but had outdoor gardens , pool and bbq/ entertainment area to socialise.

Mirepoix is also an ideal base for day trips to the beautiful towns nearby. The local markets and medieval towns are a must see.

Our hosts were fabulous, providing us with their local knowledge and helping us out with excursions and really provided us with the best customer care- big thanks to Julie and Pete.

We have already recommended their place to friends and family and would highly recommend this to anyone looking to stay in this area.

We spent a week holidaying at Domaine de Pouroutounat with family and friends celebrating a 50th birthday. The farm house, style accommodation with all the mod cons was very comfortable and in keeping with the French countryside. So peaceful and quiet. Mirepoix with its mediaeval influence and all the surrounding walking tracks, villages and wineries were all worth a visit .Loved strolling around the markets, cafes and restaurants. We had a fabulous holiday with full use of the lovely spacious garden and the large pool and cabana area. Our hosts Julie and Pete made us feel very welcome, nothing was too much trouble for them. I would defiantly recommend this to friends.

A wonderful relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

I came out for a week with my fiancee (who was celebrating her birthday) and some family and friends. We had a wonderful time. The accommodation is spacious, well equipped and furnished to a high standard. The pool area is lovely, and great for an evening BBQ. The property is a short drive from the beautiful town of Mirepoix, and within 40 minutes drive of the historic city of Carcassonne. Also a 40 minute drive away is the ruined castle at Montsegur, which (after a 30 minute climb) has spectacular views! A slightly longer drive and you can be at the coast or in the mountains! Pete and Julie could not have been more welcoming or helpful in recommending things to do, or restaurants/bars nearby. Particularly recommended is the spectacular L'Abbaye-Château de Camon. Couldn't recommend highly enough. I shall definitely be going again!

Owner's Response: Good to read that our facilities, including the upgraded pool house (now with two fridges, shady seating, bbq & dining for up to 16) were ideal and that the location provided lots of interesting trips within the area. Second trip from this guest - welcome back!

Excellent, can't praise this property enough!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! Where to begin?

We had such a wonderful time in your beautifully spacious farmhouse at the foot of the Pyrenees. So many places to sit, eat, drink and chill round the large pool and gardens. The accommodation was of a very high standard with plumbing far superior to any other French property in which we have stayed. Also excellent base for exploring this region especially Mirepoix, Camon, Montbel, Montsegur, Carcassonne. Our hosts, Julie and Pete, were perfect neighbours, at hand when needed but never intrusive. Our party of eight had no criticism to offer on any aspect of the property. It really exceeded all expectations and beyond.

The "Tenbury 8" will be welcome back!

From the Owner

Having had a holiday home in this area since 2000 we wanted to find a property with character and charm that could offer a really great holiday experience but had to be within very easy reach of the lovely medieval towns of Mirepoix and Carcassonne. We also wanted to be close to the mountains and coast and have good transport links. Domaine de Pouroutounat had been neglected but is now returned to its former elegance with modern conveniences.

Many guests have commented that our very large, heated pool & poolside area in it's landscaped setting within the wooded private grounds is perfect! It has sun & shade, lighting for evening bathing & dining, music, two fridges & BBQ. There is also a children's play area and level grassed area for games. No neighbours, lovely walks from the doorstep and yet only 5 minutes from the town centre. In 2015 the Tour de France will pass the property on July 12th!
