Property

Updated: 09-Dec-2016
Farmhouse in Sassello, Savona, Liguria, Italy - Set Amidst the Protected Landscape Of The Beigua Mountain Park

Beautifully restored farmhouse set in the small hamlet of Badani, located within the breath-taking mountain landscape of Liguria. The house has a distinct Italian character with all necessary comforts for a relaxing holiday. It is minutes from footpaths into the Beigua National Park, popular for walking, mountain biking and road biking. Within a beautiful rural setting, it is also minutes away from the village of Sassello. This village was the first winner of the Italian seal of tourism and environmental quality, and has numerous and excellent restaurants, bars and shops.

The house is one hour from Genoa airport, and half an hour from the beach at Varrazze on the famous Riviera coastline. The beautiful spa town of Acqui Termi is some 25 minutes north, reached through the spectacular mountain scenery of Piemonte. Some of Italy's finest wines hale from the rich slopes of this area. Wine tasting in the cool cellars of the many family-run vineries in the area offers a relaxing escape from the summer sun.

Top Traveller Review

About the Owner

We are a family of five, including three teenage children. We’ve travelled a lot, but have found in recent years the pleasures in really getting to know a place. Our kids are quite active, so road biking and mountain biking are great for all of us, and the walking is spectacular. We enjoy the wildlife of the area and the general rural life on offer. Food is important to us, and the local fare is rich and varied: pesto, funghi (mushrooms) and amaretti are the more famous local favourites, but there is much on offer. The vineyards of Piedmont 40 minutes to the north offer great drinking. We have only a small garden in the UK, so we love the outdoor space, and the river at the bottom of the garden in particular.

We had a splendid week here. From our first meeting with Tomaso and family, they felt like friends. The house is immensely comfortable from the children's lights to the superb loft room. The river is simply spectacular - much easier to access than anticipated - and provided an entire day's enjoyment and adventure. We really enjoyed getting to know the local shops, provisions and wines, and have become the delightful owners of Sassello hand crafted shoes. All our expectations were exceeded. Thank you for welcoming us and sharing your lovely home with us. Thank you for the wonderful memories.

Family Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Where do I start? A well equipped converted farmhouse in an idyllic rural mountain setting, but only 30 minutes drive to the Med. This provided spacious accommodation for our group of 7 (4 adults, 3 children) topped off with a superb family room in the converted loft, great for chilling out after a long day. Then there are the grounds, a typical Italian shaded outdoor eating and sitting area, so relaxing that all our meals were taken in this area. Just a short distance away our own superb swimming pool where we all spent many enjoyable hours in the water and enjoying the sunshine. If this was not enough at the bottom of the meadow a path leads down to a river with a waterfall. An area for adventure the children could not have hoped for in their wildest dreams. There are no adjacent occupied properties, so you have this paradise all to yourselves.

The local village shop, although small, has a great selection of local cheeses, meats and wines as well as most essentials. Sassello, a short drive away, a lovely Italian mountain town has plenty of places to eat and shop to fulfil any other needs.

To make the holiday complete there was Tommaso and his family who met us and introduced us to the property. They were a fount of local knowledge and were always on hand if needed.

I do hope we can create an opportunity to return in the future

Lovely peaceful country house

  • 5 of 5

Had a great stay at the house in Sassello. The house is situated just outside the lovely town of Sassello, a quiet and relaxing low-key (and very pretty) town with enough shops/bars/restaurants to keep you happy for a week or two. The house is very well appointed, with a fab kitchen containing everything you need. Beds are comfy. And everything was spotlessly clean. The upstairs kids play area/lounge with TV and log fire is really useful and relaxing. There's also great oudoor areas, with a patio and tables outside for alfresco meals, a fab heated pool, shaded areas and sunbathing areas around the pool. Then there's also the "wilder" meadow leading down to a river with waterfall and natural swimming pools.

Dawn the ownder communicated well throughout and whilst in Italy the house manager was as welcoming and helpful as you can get! Being shown around the town by a local was brilliant. Nothing semed too much trouble.

Would recommend to anyone!

Wonderful, Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

I spent a wonderful, relaxing and very enjoyable week in this splendid property with my 2 children. It lived up to all expectations. Every possible little homely touch was in place and additionally, the stunning grounds, complete with pool, as the Easy walk into Sassello itself to sample the delicious local food, made our short stay a very happy and memorable one!

Location

From the Owner

After several years of visiting the area, we bought Badani Farmhouse in 2014. At the heart of Beguia National Park, Sassello’s hills and forests offer stunning walks and cycle routes. But equally, the relaxed Ligurian way of life encourages us to totally switch off when we want. Sassello village, 5 minutes from the house, provides all the facilities we need. And the people are so welcoming. The house is more than we need for our family, with large grounds and, best of all, the river at the bottom. Wildlife abounds, with deer and boar frequent visitors to the meadows that surround. This area is away from the more familiar English haunts of Tuscany and Lombardy, but equally is easy to get to, with Genoa only an hour away and beaches just half an hour.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Genoa at 65 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : Genoa at 65 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Varazze at 23 Kilometres Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

Varraze Beach is 30 minutes away. It is a resort with both sand and pebble beaches, and (typically for Italy) a mixture of private and public use. There are loads of activities along the front. This is the famous Italian Riviera, which extends east to beautiful towns such as Porto Fino, and the incredible rocky coastline of the Cinque Terra, beloved of Keats and Shelley; and to the west up to the French border and Monte Carlo beyond.

Travel:

You can travel by air or by car. Cristophe Colombus airport at Genoa is an hour's drive from the house. You will need a car if you want to explore the area, and car hire from the airport is straight forwards. But equally, once at the house, you may want to stay put. And Sassello is only 10 minutes walk away and has much to enjoy. We also often drive from the UK to Sassello, which is a fairly leisurely two day trip, with a stopover in France.

Distances:

Nearest shop is 5 minutes walk in Badani. Nearest big village is Sassello, which is 5 minutes drive. Numerous local villages in the area. Nearest big town is Acqui Termi, 30 minutes north, or Albisola on the coast, which is 30 minutes south. Genoa is 1 hour's drive away.

Facilities

From the Owner

The house is large and well equipped and so offers all we need during our stay. Equally, there is everything we need within the immediate area by way of shops, bars and restaurants, great walking and cycling. Nearby towns satisfy more exacting demands (spas, swimming pools, vineries). And it is easy for people to visit us from the UK as Genoa is so close. Genoa, of course has all the facilities of a big city, as well as Europe’s finest aquarium.
