Breton Character Period Stone House in Typical Breton Village
average rating of 4.0 based on 3 reviews

Our comfortable and well equipped Breton house was a charming property in a friendly rural village.

  • 4 of 5

We appreciated the way the cottage was provided with comfortable beds and seating, and decorated with antique pieces to create a homely lived in feel. We had everything we needed to enjoy our stay.

Tonquedec is well served with a boulangerie/ general store, a bar/petrol pump and a hairdresser, and the locals are friendly. It is in a peaceful rural location and nearby is its very own magnificent ruined chateau.

There is easy access to a number of safe, quiet and beautiful beaches for swimming within half an hour's drive, our favourite being Tregastel-Plage (Greve Blanche). There are several other quiet little coves around that peninsula which are delightful for swimming and can be easily accessed from beautiful footpaths, and parking is plentiful and free.

We would also highly recommend Ploumanach and the Sentier des Douaniers, the footpath which skirts that penisula and provides a view of the pink rock formations after which the Cote Granite Rose is named. You can enjoy a delicious lunch in the little centre in Ploumanach after your walk. Please do not miss the sculpture park in Ploumanach where pink granite has been carved into fantastic shapes. There are great photo opportunities there and good parking and toilets.

Other places really worth a visit are: the area from Saint-Michel -en- Greve to Loquirec with its rocky shore, the estuary at Le Yaudet, the beatiful ancient town of Treguier, and the Thursday market in Lannion.

This is a really lovely place for a spring, summer or autumn visit.

Very French!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay: The cottage was quirky and comfortable for five, with good beds. The shower is excellent. Because of the hot weather we spent a lot of time in the garden, where we spent time relaxing, barbecued most meals and played some highly competitive games of boules! It was great to be able to watch the BBC Olympics broadcasts. The front door and cooker puzzled us at first, but we figured them out and they appear to be standard issue in many homes there. The Dishwasher works fine so long as you pop the tablet in the rack and don't use the tablet dispenser (which doesn't open).

Tonquedec is a quiet village but has an excellent boulangerie (Very friendly staff!) basketball courts and lots of tremendous woodland walks nearby if you explore. The Chateau is fun (spot the goats!) and only a short walk away. Finally, it is a good base for the picture-postcard beautiful Brittany coastline.

There are numerous beautiful beaches between 15-20 minutes drive from the cottage.

The Northern Brittany coast is renowned for its unique pink granite rock formations. Stretching from Paimpol to Trébeurden the natural erosion of the rock has resulted in huge rounded sculputured shapes with the most peculiar ones being given names like The Elephant, The Hare or Napoleon’s Hat. The beaches are impressive and there is a wide selection of uncrowded locations within easy distance of Tonquédec.
