Farmhouse With Private Pool On The Edge Of A Beautiful Lake

Farmhouse in Doazon, Pau, Pyrenees Atlantiques, Aquitaine, France - Very Tranquil Location In The Countryside But Still Well Within Reach Of The Beaches And Mountains

The house is set in a small village (Doazon), right on the edge of a fantastic lake, where its possible to fish or just take a leisurely walk around. You truly understand the words 'relax and unwind' when you are sitting on the terrace looking out over the lake. Its a large house spread over 3 levels; there are 6 bedrooms easily accommodating 10 people as well as 6 bathrooms (4 being en-suites). There is a large dining area and huge lounge too. The kitchen is also well equipped with cooker, dish washer, fridges, freezer, coffee machine, microwave, toaster, kettle and many pots / pans. Outside there is a terrace, leading down to the pool area with a BBQ area off to the side; to be honest this area is where most people spend a majority of their time; its simply breath taking. The pool is 8m x 4m, ie plenty big enough to swim in, but not too big that the sun keeps in naturally warm. There are many loungers and tables located around the pool area. Try turning on the pool light whilst sitting on the terrace of an evening - wonderful !! We also have a separate barn which has a full sized table tennis table and dart board area. There are many other games stored here including; badminton, swing ball, boules. There are 2 market towns within 10 mins which have all your local requirements. Arthez De Bearn has a supermarket, Boulangerie, Patisserie, Pharmacie, sports bar and Tabac. Artix has all of these plus a couple of great restaurants too. If you are looking for a huge supermarket; either Orthez or Pau are the answer and both are within 30 mins.

About the Owner

We are an Australian couple who currently work in London and Singapore. We have four grown up children and have bought this house as part of our long term retirement plan.

We look forward to welcoming friends and family to this wonderful part of France, so close to the Pyrenees, Pau, the beach and of course Spain.

The house itself is so relaxing and the view over the lake on a summer evening is superb.

We have spent a lot of time and energy repainting the house and renewing all of the landscaping. It is a pleasure to stay there.

The Pyrenees Atlantique is an amazing partof France; it is much less commercialized than south East France and still holds much of the local traditions and practices. With the coast and mountains so close; you can experience so much and the food and wine is simply divine.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Pau at 15 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Arthez de Bearn at 5 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Pau Billere at 20 Kilometres Nearest Train : Orthez at 15 Kilometres Car: necessary

Special interest holidays:

Fishing; it is possible to fish in the lake (there may be certain conditions, please check) and the carp are huge. There are also many other fishing lakes in the area.


There is a man made beach in Orthez, 25 mins away by car, on another large lake where you can hire pedlo's or even go water skiing.

The coastal beaches are about an hours drive; Biarritz beach is a terrific sandy beach with shops and bars all along the top.

There are many other beaches along the coast. If you venture towards Spain, there is San Sebastian with a sheltered sandy beach and again many coffee shops and restaurants near by.


Airports; Pau is the closest (20 mins drive) with flights from UK (incl. London City). Lourdes is about 45 mins drive with flights from UK (incl. London Stansted) and Biarritz is about an hours drive also with flights from UK (incl. London Stansted and Gatwick)

Ferries; It is obviously possible to drive down from the ports on the French Northern coast; its 660 miles from Calais, which is about 9 hours. It is also possible to take overnight ferries to/from Bilbao and Santander.


Artix / Arthez de Bearn are two local market towns about 10 mins by car.

Orthez is about 15 mins by car and is a larger town with lots of restaurants and a huge supermarket.

The city of Pau with its chateau and cathedral are also about 25 mins away and worth a visit.

The religious town of Lourdes is about 45 mins by car.

Biarritz is about an hour away.

San Sebastian is about an hour and a half by car and has some amazing restaurants and beach.

Further Details:

The mountains offer many great activities from horse riding, white water rafting, hiking, etc and are only an hour or so's drive.

There are other great lakes not too far away, including lake Leon (about 75 mins away), where its possible to go sailing.

With the famous wine regions so close and the local cheese / Acquitaine meats on the door step; eating and drinking is such a pleasure. There are many local markets and festivals which are wonderful to experience. The mountains are breath taking both in the summer and winter. The coast line too is magnificent with sheltered bays as well as more 'surfing' beaches.

  • Notes on accommodation: The house is large and there is flexibility on the accomodation. Outside: The house is set in 3 acres of grounds; most of which are woodland. There is a terrace area with seating for 10 over looking the pool area and lake. The BBQ area is off to the side and has a large BBQ and further seating. The pool is 8m x 4m with sun lounges and table/chairs on its surrounding terrace. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels for the house are included (1 large and 1 small per person) and changed each week. Note; towels for the pool / beach are not included. The house is also cleaned each week. Other: There is a washing machine and tumble dryer (iron and ironing board too) located within the shower room
