Converted Barn set in a small hamlet in the Countryside, Spacious, Views, Characterful and perfect family set up. close to Coast

(Please note that in season our changeover day is a Saturday, but out of season shortbreaks are available. Please don't hesitate to ask). Great Philham Parlour is a beautifully converted parlour, being well appointed and offering spacious accommodation. We converted the parlour ourselves and we maintain it with all the love, care and attention that went into the original conversion. It offers a private courtyard area and access to a large paddock with rope swings and trampoline. Situated in the heart of the Devon countryside, with stunning view of the surrounding fields, but within 2 miles of Hartland, Hartland Quay and the West Country Coastal Path, with its rugged, yet spectacular coastline. Sandy beaches can be found nearby at Sandymouth and Bude, all of which offer excellent surfing and body boarding experiences. About Mark Brumham

We moved to this beautiful part of Devon in 2007 as part of our "New Life in the Country" plan. We found Great Philham House with its unconverted barn and could not turn down the opportunity and challenge of creating our own holiday cottage.

Lorraine and I ensured that the barn was finished to a high standard, with character and luxury. We are so delighted with the result, that we stay in the cottage ourselves for an occasional holiday, even though its only next door!

Having worked hard to provide the highest standard of accommodation, we would now like to welcome everyone else to come and enjoy this fantastic part of Devon and are wonderful holiday cottage.

Why Mark Brumham chose Torridge

We are situated in the heart of the Hartland Peninsular and surrounded by Devon countryside. Its very difficult to accurately describe the area, as there are so many redeeming features, there is simply everything on offer here. Peaceful and tranquil surroundings, fantastic views, rugged coast line, hidden coves, sandy beaches to name but a few.

You simply cant help but fall in love with the area, everyone is so friendly and welcoming, the local pubs are full of atmosphere and local ale!

You can walk for miles, either in land or along the fabulous west country coastal path.

The hamlet of Philham, whist off the main routes, has easy access to the town of Hartland and the main A39, with links to Cornwall.

What makes this barn unique

The Parlour enjoys a large, private, enclosed, child friendly courtyard which is excellent for BBQ, eating out and soaking up the sunshine.

There is also a large lawn / meadow with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. It is ideal for children of all ages, as there are rope swings and large trampoline available to play on.

Inside there is a large open plan living area, with fully fitted kitchen, leather suite, large dinning table and a warm cast iron wood burner.

There is also a games area, with multi function tabletop football / pool table.

The accommodation is well appointed, with large bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities, including a family bathroom, with Jack and Jill Doors and a fabulous roll top bath.

Lovely home in a very peaceful location

What a lovely comfortable home we stayed in over the Easter week, the owners Lorraine and Mark made us and our dogs most welcome. We had some beautiful weather and although the Parlour is in a very quiet location it was perfect for visiting some lovely scenic places in both Devon and Cornwall. The dogs loved being able to have a good run around in the field several times a day, which was a bonus. Because there is no light pollution, looking into the clear night sky was amazing, I don't think we have ever seen so many stars! We would definitely recommend the Parlour as a perfect place to stay.

Great home and location

Superb barn conversion in a rural position with scenic views

We only had a long weekend here in March but would loved to have stayed longer ! The barn is superb. Sympathetically converted with spacious rooms and high class bathrooms, kitchen and fittings throughout. The enclosed courtyard is ideal for dogs and there is plenty of nearby countryside walks and wide open sandy beaches to explore . The owners have thought of everything you might need and left us with a lovely welcome hamper as shops are a little drive away ! But don't waste time in the shops - explore the glorious devon countryside ! xxx

Lovely, well appointed property.

We had a lovely weekend at this well appointed barn conversion and were made to feel extremely welcome. The food welcome pack was delightful!

Downstairs there is a very spacious, open plan lounge and dining area with a very well equipped kitchen, having pretty much everything you need for a comfortable stay. The bedroom on the ground floor has two single beds and a TV. This room has en-suite access to a Jack and Jill bathroom with a roll top bath as well as a shower.

There are two, very large bedrooms on the first floor, both have en-suite shower rooms. Each of these rooms also has a TV and DVD player! The bedrooms are all amazing and the beds were extremely comfortable.

Located in a very quiet area but with easy access to main roads.

I would highly recommend staying here.

bright, airy, immaculate cottage in perfect peaceful location

Huge amount of space, immaculately kept, owners are very thoughtful and left us goodies. We have been here twice now both summer and winter and the barn is wonderful for all seasons. Also as the barn is so large it easily accommodates a large family for a get together.

Fantastic property that suited our needs perfectly. We would definitely recommend this property.

This property was brilliant. With 6 adults and 1 child there was loads of space. The 2 bedrooms upstairs were massive, which the owners had made the most of by making an area to sit and relax with 2 chairs, coffee tables and tv. The ensuite shower rooms were lovely, light and airy. The kitchen was a good size and well equipped, Christmas dinner was a breeze.

The property must be very well insulated as it remained comfortably warm, well after the heating had gone off. Views from the property are very nice across the country.

It is set in a very quiet location, in the week we were there we counted no more than 4 cars and 2 tractors passing by, so perfect for a lovely quiet break.

Mark the owner greeted us on our arrival, made sure we were happy and just left us to it, which was perfect.

My son made this stay extra special by proposing to his girlfriend at the beautiful Hartland Quay.

We would love to return in the future.

We are two miles from the west country coastal path and Hartland Quay. Its a 15 minute drive to Sandymouth, which is a large sandy beach or 25 minutes to Bude, which is a seaside town with sandy beaches. Other great beaches can be found at Saunton Sands and Widemouth bay.

Hartland Town is under two miles away. Places of interest to visit nearby include the RHS Rosemoor, the historic fishing Village of Clovelly and the towns of Bude, Bideford and Appledore. Further afield you have Padstow, the Eden Project and both Exmoor and Dartmoor.

Local attractions include The Milky Way, The Big Sheep and Go Ape.

The Parlour is available Saturday to Saturday, although out of season shorter stays / long weekends can be arranged by request. A non refundable 25% deposit will be taken on booking confirmation and the balance of payment will be due 4 weeks before the start of your holiday. A booking confirmation form will be provided via email.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Saturday and the Parlour will be available from 2.30 onward. Departure will be no later than 10am the following Saturday.

Great Philham Parlour is offered as a three bedroom property that sleeps up to 8 people. Private graveled courtyard area, with outside dinning suite including chairs, table and parasol. A BBQ is also provided. Across the lane is a large paddock with rope swings and trampoline, plus additional parking if required. All towels and linen are included. The property has a weekly changeover at which point everything is cleaned and refreshed in readiness for our next guest. A breakfast pack is provided on arrival.
