House in Argeliers, Nr. Narbonne, Aude, Languedoc-Roussillon, France - Wonderful Location To Explore All The Langedoc Has To Offer

This centuries-old stone barn and house have been transformed into a lovely family home with original features and all modern appliances. Centre-piece is the walled courtyard with 9 x 3m bespoke pool. Pool side terrace with loungers and dining table. All beautifully illuminated during the summer evenings. Spacious living accommodation is provided with the open plan main lounge, fitted kitchen and dining area overlooking the pool. UK satellite TV,DVD and Wifi are supplied. All 4 bedrooms, have their own air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms. There is a 1st floor terrace overlooking the pool and two very private roof terraces for maximum sun-tanning! Argeliers is situated along the canal du midi amongst the picturesque Languedoc vineyards and is 35 min from the Mediterranean beaches. The village is centrally located between Carcasonne, Bezier and Narbonne. All amenities are within a few minutes walk from the front door, including a boulangerie, café bars, restaurants, a grocery store, local produce shops, newsagent, pharmacy, hair salons and a weekly market. Capestang (5 min) with lovely canal-side restaurants, shops and further café bar restaurants. Narbonne-Plage and Gruissan (35 min) for great Mediterranean beaches, traditional markets, café bar restaurants, water park and amusement parks. The nearby, beautiful Canal du Midi is a great respite from the busy beaches. Made famous recently by Rick Stein's BBC TV series, the canal offers miles of flat, tree-lined, shady footpaths with many waterside bars and restaurants. Narbonne 30 mins has an interesting gothic cathedral, medieval quarter and Roman remains, some good restaurants and a peaceful past, reflected in a serene town centre. Carcassonne 35 mins the most romantic medieval skyline anywhere and has great summer medieval festivals and spectacular evening firework displays. Corbières, where interesting and serious wine makers are now well-established and you can stop at towns like Lagrasse, a really gorgeous place in the fold of a hill, unspoilt, medieval and facing a Benedictine monastery across a river. Everyone swims in a little lagoon looking up at the twelfth Century bridge. Cisterian Abbaye de Fontfroide with lovely rose garden and a good restaurant. The kayaking is wonderful in the Montagne Noire, pretty Victorian spa towns have wide and slow stretches of the Orb where tinies can bob about, and fast exciting stretches for the others. For serious 'white water' enthusiasts, there are good rivers in the Pyrénées, also about an hour away. Similarly, Figueires, the Dali Museum and Barcelona are all not far to the south. Each beach along the coast has a different flavour to it. Budget airlines fly into Montpellier (1 hour), Perpignan (1 hour), Carcassonne (35 mins), Nîmes and Toulouse 90 mins and Barcelona (3 hours). Hypermarkets and excellent shopping in both Béziers and Narbonne. Cultural events and traditional markets. Historic Cathar trail with many castles to visit. The picturesque historic hilltop town of Minerve is around 15 minutes away. The Spanish border lies just 55 minutes away. SOME CLIENT COMMENTS "Just a quick note to say that we had a really wonderful time in France, your house is beautiful and Argeliers great. We enjoyed it so much that we are considering buying a property there ourselves." "Your house is one of the best we have stayed in, and we rent a villa in France/Italy every year." "Just arrived in Argeliers after rather a grim drive from Orleans today. No less than 3 major jams on different stages of the peages, the worst just as we approached Beziers! All forgotten now! The house is absolutely stunning. We were expecting to be impressed but it is so much more spectacular in reality than the photos can convey." "At the halfway point, just wanted to let you know that we are having a fabulous fortnight. Weather has been glorious - uninterrupted sunshine, with temperatures averaging 35 degrees. We absolutely love your house”. “Much time has been spent just "chilling by the pool". Also some great day trips to Agde, Carcassonne, Minerve and down the coast to St Cyprien and Colliure. Not doing much cooking so making much use of the local restaurants. No problems at all. Managing agents came today to top up the pool and change the linen. Really looking forward to our second week." "Thank you again for letting us stay in your lovely house. We had an absolutely fab time." "Mercy beaucoup your French retreat is Fabulous. We love the location, the quaint village and managed to sample the local delicacies... the wine, the cheese and especially the Boulanger. Loved the food and had a fab day in Montpellier. Really enjoyed the beautiful weather. Had an amazing time in Minerve managed to catch a medieval festival in Chateau Beryepeheuse." "We have had a wonderful and very relaxing holiday. Your home is beautiful. Many thanks." "We had a great time in the country. With an excellent place to stay at. Enjoyed all the small villages especially Le Somail and had a superb meal at L'Auberge La Croisade." "Had a great holiday. Enjoyed the local food and wine. Thank you." "Had a wonderful stay. Great home, very comfortable. Really enjoyed our vacation and would definitely come back."

Location

From the Owner

It took us a long time to find the right place to suit our family needs but eventually we found Argeliers in 2005. Over the years we have used it as a base go skinning, visit Spain, travel through the beautiful Pyrenees, go as over to Nice, Monaco and even Italy when family was staying with us.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Beaches and seaside resorts (35 min) drive. River swimming and lakes are very popular in the area and near (around 10 min) drive. Local lakes have kayaking, windsurfing and restaurants. Forest Park & hill walks 5 minutes on foot, Canal du Midi 5 minutes walk.

Facilities

From the Owner

The Pace of life in the village is quite wonderful. The local cave has, in our humble opinion some of the best wines in the region. Wine, French bread , wonderful cheeses, olives, sun dried tomatoes need we say more. The villages in the area are all picture postcard. Many a good evening has been spent in the restaurants by the canal. Our Favourite restaurant is Auberge de la Croisade 34310 Cruzy Just along the canal. What can we say except if you see Monseur Reno please let him know Peter and Karen were asking for him and will see him soon. We hope you enjoy our home from home in France as much as we do and are blessed with good weather during your stay. Peter and Karen Regan
